Legis lators’ Open House z

All citizens are invited to an Open House with Assemblymembers Jim Beall and Joe Coto at their district office located at 100 Paseo de San Antonio, Suite 300 in San Jose. The Open House is scheduled for Thursday, February 19th from 4:00 to 6:30 P.M. RSVP to 408-282-8920.

Feb. 28: Club Social: Honoring Past Presidents Mar. 2: Dr. Seuss’ Birthday @ Rosemary School

Our annual Rick King Speech Contest was held last week at our regular meeting. Six students from five different schools participated in this year’s event with the theme, Rotary Pride: Make Dreams Real. The students addressed the theme in their own unique ways giving all of us things to ponder. First place finisher, Katie Hawn, of Leigh High School used her enthusiasm to challenge to audience to share their own dreams out loud to help make them come into fruition. Clarissa Demarquez, of Branham, finished in second place with an inspirational story of a Mar 3: Area 8 Student Speech Contest @ EMQ Mar. 6-8: PETS Mar. 9: Dinner Service @ EHC Apr. 17-19: District Celebration!!!

young woman who has created her own non-profit organization helping homeless people improve their lives through running.

Jessie Patterson from Westmont touched the crowd with her story of her mom’s battle against cancer. Rounding out the presenters were Vance Phan (Silver Creek), Michael Brendle (Delmar), and Sierra Valenzuela (Delmar). Each speaker was awarded a minimum of $25 with the 2nd place winner receiving $50 and the winner, $100. The Area 8 contest is March 3 here at EMQ.
