Hot off the Press News Update:

‘Bank unanimous on rates and quantitative easing.’

The Bank of England voted unanimously to keep interest rates at the historic low of 0.5 per cent this month and to maintain the £175 billion limit on it’s money printing programme.

‘Brits regain confidence in overseas property’

Prime location has reported that searches for International property soared 32% in September, compared to a year earlier. The month also saw search levels up 10% on August, indicating that consumer confidence in foreign property has begun to return.

‘Socialists win Portugal Elections’

Socialist Prime Minister Jose Socrates has vowed to stick social and economic reforms that have angered trade unions.

The Economy has shrunk and no longer fits The preliminary GDP figures came in this morning showing that the UK has not exited the recession. This is not good news for the economy. In fact it is completely disastrous news as it shows the economy has shrunk in last six consecutive quarters and the longest period of decline since records began in 1955. However this news is not all together bad. The reason is that these figures will stimulate the Bank of England to continue its quantitative easing program. This is carried out by the making purchases of Government bonds. The real trick to ending this recession is to get the banks lending again. If tranches of Government bonds are removed from the market, the banks will have to look elsewhere to place their money. The hope is that they will begin to look to lending to the consumer once again. As they commence their lending to the consumer, the economy will return to growth with the consumer starting to spend the moneys that have been borrowed.

‘One mans debt repayment costs another man their job’ says Chris Miller The problem is that borrowed money needs to be repaid. There is considerable negative emotion around the continued high levels of debt within the UK economy. There seems to be no emotion around the currently high levels of unemployment. Those creating the emotion around debt seem to ignore the carnage being caused to society by so many having no jobs and all to often not even any prospect of employment. ‘One mans debt repayment costs another man their job’ says Chris Miller. ‘Work is one of the key vitamins to a healthy lifestyle and providing everyone with the opportunity to work must be the highest priority.’ If today’s figures reinvigorates the Bank of England to continue with its quantitative easing program, maybe the news could produce some positive results. Maybe the there will be the stimulus for the banks to get lending with the consumer spending and thereby creating jobs. Only that way will it start to fit again.

Twitter and Facebook aid small firms Small business owners across America have been thrown an unexpected lifeline in the midst of the recession by social networking sites. With minimal budgets available to many small businesses, social networking sites offer a quick and, more importantly, free means of promoting their wares to a global audience Some experts warn that social networking sites are not without dangers. WG comment: ‘If this fear means that we have to deliver what we say we will deliver to the consumer, I am all for it.’ retorts David Harvey, the Commercial Director of Welsh Global. ‘Visibility of what we deliver to our customers is good. As a company, our success is measured against our level of customer satisfaction. We know that unhappy customers will not hesitate to publish their grievance. The trick is to do our best to make sure everyone of our customers are happy customers and add positive comments.’

Arthur Facebook watch: - I now have over 100 friends on facebook! - After playing scrabble Arthur has challenged Aleksandr the Meerkat to a duel. - I have become a fan of welsh global to keep updated on new properties and the WG team

Hi all, This week has been a little slow. Nobody really has much spare money so we haven’t been out into Monmouth this week. I invited a few friends over but because I don’t have a playstation we had to play scrabble. It ended up being so much fun and I WON! I did make up a few words admittedly and won with the word ‘Quijams’. After that we sat around the fire chatting about girls, skateboarding and cars. I tried to talk about flying but none of my friends were interested. Everybody just wants to drive everywhere but that’s boring. Flying shows you all the hidden parts of Monmouth. I’ve had my second flying lesson this week. It was so much better than last week! Ian came over when nobody else was at home so I managed to flying around the garden a bit. Mum was cross though because I burnt her hydrangeas. Ooops! I guess I need to try controlling the fire when I fly. Arthur

Ask Arthur: Hi Arthur, After reading last week’s newsletter I wondered what your connection to Welsh Global is? Hope you enjoyed your flying lesson. Stuart (28), Birmingham Arthur: Hi Stuart. The flying lessons are going well. I’ve had two now. I’ve managed to get myself off the ground, although my parents don’t like me going so fast. At moment I’m a little unsure. Welsh Global seem to like having a well-rounded team. I’m not officially part of their team but I enjoy popping down to their office for a cuppa and biscuit, sometimes Marc buys eclairs. YUM! They fill me in on their new properties and latest products. I’ve always had an interest in going places and they’ve said they can help me once I’ve passed my test. I just help them with their newsletter and chat to people about what they do. Thanks Stu, Arthur
