PARISH MESSENGER NOVEMBER 2008 Tmid eM)lgsÐ d\[ “Third Class Passengers” Dearly beloved in Christ, Greetings in the precious name of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ! Before there were trains, buses, cars etc, the mode of travelling in different parts of the world, especially in Germany was to ride in mail‐carriages pulled by two or four or even six horses. Those carriages would run from town to town to enable people to get around. In those carriages there was a distinction between first, second and third class‐somewhat like our trains. But the difference between these classes was not that the first class was better equipped with softer seats or something like that. But the accommodation was the same for all the travellers. The difference surfaced only when the vehicle became difficult for the horses, when it went uphill or when it was muddy or such. Then the first‐class passengers could remain seated, and the second and third class people had to get off the carriage. When the second class passengers could walk along, the third class travellers had to push the carriage and thus help the horses to manage the difficult road. Sometimes we people in the church want to be like first class passengers. We come to church on Sunday, listen to sermon and even make comments about everything. There are some second class passengers who sometimes attend and give comments to happenings of the church. But what we need are ‘third class’ passengers who come and push, who come and help to build up the Church as the community of God’s people. I am happy to be a part of the first edition of our Parish messenger. We have to hear the messages through the messenger and consider it as an invitation for our involvement in the parish activities. Our parish is in its infancy stage. We have to give added care and support to nurture it so that this parish may be a blessing to all believers in Perth. We have to ‘build’ our parish, i.e. its organizations, its families and moreover each and every member of this parish. In this endeavour we need ‘third class passengers’ who set apart their time and resources. May the almighty God enlighten and challenge us for this mission. I hope and pray that this messenger will reach each and every MarThoma families in Perth. With Prayers, Boby Philip Achen (Vicar) Motto: Children and the Church “Tijsm Qgk ~lhdR K![ï LisÐ e)H LÖ[ ui\/ik; g!k aJrk; K![.” “There is a lad here who has five barley loaves and two small fish.” (John 6:9)
