Unit 1. Pre-Colonial America Comparison/Contrast essay Two Native American Regions Checklist for your paper 1. PARAGRAPH ONE o Introduces the two regional groups you will be comparing. o Gives some tribal names (three for each region). o Announces what criteria you will be comparing: Geography, Food, Art/Architecture and one other criteria (of your choice). o Previews your conclusion (about why the two groups were similar/different) 2. PARAGRAPH TWO o Has the heading GEOGRAPHY AND FOOD above the paragraph. o Compares/contrasts the geography and food of your two regions. 3. PARAGRAPH THREE o Has a heading that mentions ART/ARCHITECTURE and the criteria of your choice (can be one or two other sections). o Compares/contrasts the art/architecture and the other criteria of your two regions. 4. CONCLUSION (PARAGRAPH FOUR) o Includes your theory about why the two groups you studied were either so similar to—or so different from—one another. o Uses evidence for your theory found in the rest of your paper. 5. IN GENERAL… o PAPER IS VERY NEATLY WRITTEN, OR TYPED IN A READABLE 12-POINT FONT (TIMES NEW ROMAN, COURIER, HELVETICA OR ARIAL). DOUBLE SPACED. 6. CITING SOURCES o As much as possible, sources are cited in your paper. For example: The northeast region of North America is an area of forests, lakes, rivers and ocean (Zimmerman 38).

SOURCES CITED PAGE o Your paper includes a SOURCES CITED PAGE at the end. o SOURCES CITED PAGE is written at the top of this page. o Your SOURCES CITED PAGE uses the following format for books (the example used is from the book we all used most often): Zimmerman, Larry. Native North America. London: Duncan Baird Publishers, 1996. o Your SOURCES CITED PAGE uses the following format for websites: Cherokee Religion. Cherokee by Blood. 2003 Papers are due by Monday, October 12, 2009 Your grading rubric will be based on quality of information, following of format, neatness, organization and proper citation of sources.
