Universal Design for Learning (UDL): Engagement: Regarding the engagement principle of universal design for learning, students will be able to become interested and engaged with learning because they are using technology in a way that makes them become interactive learners. They are able to use technology to make a video that shows what they learned from instruction. Students becoming more engaged within classroom activities anytime technology is used. Representation: Regarding the representation principle of universal design for learning, content and information is presented in a different way than the traditional way for learning. Content and information are provided in the form a video. This is very different from the traditional way of learning from textbooks or through lecture. Action and Expression: Regarding the action and expression principle of universal design for learning, this lesson idea allows students to show their understanding of content through an alternative way. Students are able to show their understanding of content through the creation of videos related to learning standards. Depending on how well they create these videos and what information is provided in it can help determine how well students are understanding content taught within the classroom.

MultiMedia Tools Lesson idea implementation: Within this lesson, students will be creating videos that are about the destruction of the Amazon Rainforest and the impacts that is has on the surrounding area and world. Teachers will be supervisors during this lesson, they may need to help out students when they are learning how to navigate the software to create the videos. The project will be introduced after instruction is given on the learning standards SS6G2b. This project can will take between 1 to 2 days to complete Students learning will be assessed after the projects are turned in and this will help teachers understand students understanding of content taught. The final product can be used to differentiate learning by allowing students to have access to these videos they created. They can use the videos they created as study tools for upcoming quizzes or tests. This differentiating the way the students learn and obtain content knowledge over time. Students’ learning is at the highest level because they are required to create original products that show their understanding of content taught about the destruction of Brazil’s Amazon Rainforest and its impacts. Graded rubrics will be provided to students, so that they can receive feedback on their work. Importance of technology: Using a multimedia authoring tool is critical to the project because it allows students to create an original product that shows their understanding of content taught. Depending on how well the video is produced and information included on it determines how well students understand content. The creativity aspect would be lost if this tool wasn’t used. Other technologies that could be used for the learning experience include video software tools “iMovie” and “PowerDirector.” Inspiration (optional): This is a weblink to the YouTube BBC video on the Amazon Rainforest used within my video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9eFiZbB9aJQ Internet Safety and Student Privacy: Possible issues surrounding internet safety and student privacy include a release of students’ information on software programs that don’t protect children under the age of 17. I could alleviate any fears that parents and administrators have and minimize risks to students and myself by doing research on the video software tools used to see if they pass all the requirements for use within schools and for students in my classroom. Having a good understanding of internet safety/acceptable use policies prevents any from being violated and protect students and myself. Reflective Practice: The lesson idea created impacts student learning because it really shows students true understanding of content taught and how well knowledge is obtained. This lesson is as extended as it can be and it assesses students’ understanding of content through the use of technology. Another technology tool that could enhance this project is iMovie, it is another video creator software, but only made for Mac and iOS devices.
