Lesson Aims: Recap on life stages of a tree using mood boards Use mood boards to sketch the parts of the tree from inner to outer tree Group discussion on the annual rings and the cells related to spring/summer growth of tree.
Learning Outcomes: Construct a drawing from knowledge of the life stages of trees on mood boards Create a sketch of the tree trunk labelling correctly the various parts of the trunk Create a directed debate on the annual rings and the cells paying attention to spring/summer growth of tree
The Lesson: Learning outcomes discussed (2 min) (O) Teacher and students recap the life stages of a tree through sketching them on mood boards (6 min) (L,O,G,GI,MA,) Students are divided into groups of two which and give mood boards between each group. They then must sketch the parts of the tree from inner to outer parts of the trunk (20 min) (G,L,N,O,MA,C&I,CL) Students engage in group discussion with the teacher on how the annual rings relate to the cells and the spring/summer growth of a tree (8 min) (L,N,O,G,MA,CL,C&I) Recap and closure of lesson with a sum up by using ticket out the door and traffic lights (2 min) Tidy up and exit (2 min)
