Lesson Aims: Distinguish between the different styles of converting logs to planks Use mood boards to complete a drawing of each method of conversion Comprehend the machinery used in conversion process
Learning Outcomes: Differentiate between the different styles if converting logs to planks Create a sketch of the various conversion methods on mood boards Acknowledge and explain the different machinery and their uses
The Lesson: Learning outcomes discussed (2 min) (O) Teachers drawing of plan view of log showing conversion types which are discussed in class with the teacher. Each student plays the advantages/disadvantages of each method (12 min) (L,O,G,GI,MA,) Students sketch three images each of the various methods of timber conversion labelling important parts to the method (10 min) (G,L,N,O,MA) Teacher engages students in topic by playing two short videos on the machinery used in converting the tree into a log and then plank (8 min) (G,O,MA,GI,CL) Recap by using ticket out the door and traffic lights (2 min) Tidy up and exit (1 min)
