Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents
WEEK OF MARCH 09 - 13, 2009
From the Middle School Office Dear Parents: Thank you to all the grade 8 parents who attended the information session about course selection for high school. The grade 8 students will begin registering for classes next week during Homebase and guidance counselors will be available to assist during the process. If you or your child has any questions, please contact the Guidance Office. As published in last week’s bulletin, the Grade 5-6 Transition Parent Evening scheduled for Tuesday, March 10 has been cancelled. Due to the inclusion of grade 5 in the Middle School next school year, we have decided to hold two separate meetings for incoming grade 5 and grade 6 parents and students. Please note the changes and mark your calendars:
•
Current Grade 5/Incoming Grade 6 students: Wednesday, March 11 from 7:30 A.M. – 8:30 A.M. in the Little Theater
•
Current Grade 4/Incoming Grade 5 students: Wednesday, March 11 from 8:30 A.M. – 9:30 A.M. in the Little Theater
Parents and students should attend the meeting together to hear firsthand information about courses being offered in grade 5 and grade 6. Course registration will begin the week of March 23 for all Middle School students. Next Friday marks the end of the 3rd quarter and report cards will be distributed during the week of March 16. Please access PowerSchool regularly to monitor your child’s assignments and achievements. If there are any concerns, please contact your child’s teacher to discuss the matter and gain a better understanding of how to support your child. Enjoy the weekend! Sincerely, Danielle Fredericks

Goodwill Gymnastics Meet Last Saturday a very busy, long but extremely successful day of gymnastics was held at the ISM MS Gymnasium. Our ISM Bearcat Gymnastics teams did a great job representing us as the host school and I would like to congratulate all the girls and coaches for their efforts. The individual and team results are posted in this bulletin. I would also like to recognize the hard work put in by our Bearcat Gymnastics Parent Booster Club led by President Jenny Kinsella, Kerrie Uytengsu, Ane Preysler and the team of parent helpers who assisted in so many areas with this large event. This event would not be possible without the support of the parent volunteers in the areas of team registration, sponsors support, awards ceremonies, t-shirt /program/snack sales booths, goodie bags etc. No doubt the gymnasts and the moms slept very well when they finally
got home on Saturday evening. I would also like to recognize the efforts of the following people/groups for their help in making this event happen: ATAC staff (Triz, Joan, the ATAC boys) for logistics and facility set up; Custodial staff; AV/IT staff; Medical Clinic staff; Security and Transportation office staff; Mr. Noel Santos and his team of judges and officials; and ISM Gymnastics Coaches. Regards, Mark Pekin Athletics & Activities Director

From Service Learning Help one of ISM's longstanding charities and get delicious coffee in return. CCV (Chosen Children’s Village) located in Silang, Cavite, is an orphanage for children who are physically and/or mentally challenged. The village consists of several cottages, a school, a rehabilitation center, and other facilities, such as a gym, a canteen, and a playground. Our ISM students will visit the orphanage at least six times this year to play with the kids and assist in feeding them and in other chores. Our interactions with the CCV children have created strong bonds between us and the ‘chosen children’.
