ISSUE # 34

Weekly Publication for Middle School Parents

WEEK OF MAY 04 TO 08, 2009

From the Middle School Office Dear Parents:

Progress reports for students earning a C- or below were distributed this week. If you have any concerns about your child’s progress, please contact your child’s teacher for further information. With less than five weeks remaining in the school year, it’s natural that thoughts may be turning to summer vacation plans but we do need students to remain focused on their work. Please talk to your child about the importance of staying on top of assignments and homework and continue to monitor their progress through PowerSchool.

On Wednesday, May 6 we will be hosting an information session for parents whose child is entering Grade 5 or Grade 6 next school year. The session will begin at 5:00 P.M. in the Fine Arts Theater. This meeting is in lieu of the calendared meeting Transitioning to Middle School scheduled for May 5.

Have a relaxing 3-day weekend!

Sincerely, Danielle Fredericks

You are invited! Celebrate the Earth with us! The grade 6, 7 and 8 students in ESL Level 2 Science have completed a research project on biomes. We invite you to have a look at their displays and read their attractive pamphlets. Come to the MSMC and be amazed. Their biomes will be on display for one more week. On behalf of the students, Melodee Peters

From the Operations & Security Department I. IDs for the New School Year Parent IDs Current parent IDs will continue to be valid for the new school year 2009-2010. Parents who require replacement school IDs due to loss or damage can acquire these from the Security Office upon payment of Php100.00 to the Cashier. Student IDs All students will be issued with new ID cards at the beginning of the new school year. To facilitate this they should visit the security office before the end of the current school year for the taking of their photograph. School Passes School passes issued to parent’s employees and representatives need to be replaced for next school year. As of August 31, 2009 the blue bordered passes will be invalid. The security office is now accepting applications for new school passes, however the cards will not be available for collection before July 1, 2009. Each family will be given two free school passes. Additional school passes may be obtained after paying a processing fee of Php100.00 each to the Cashier’s Office. 2, Car Stickers for the New School Year The car stickers for school year 2009/2010 will be available from the security office beginning July 1, 2009. For vehicles already displaying an existing sticker, parents should submit a completed renewal form with a copy of a current LTO official receipt. For new vehicles, parents are reminded that a copy of the vehicle’s certificate of registration and a current official receipt need to be submitted with the application. Applications for vehicles registered with companies or other institutions should be supported by a letter of assignment. Each ISM family will be issued one vehicle sticker free of charge. Any additional stickers will be issued following payment of P100 to the cashier’s office. I would like to thank all members of the ISM community for their cooperation across this school year in helping us maintain ISM as a safe and secure environment for our children. From the Admissions Office Dear ISM Parents, Greetings from the Admission Office! The Re-Enrollment Requirements for School Year 2009-10 are available for pick-up in the Admission Office. All of the generic reenrollment forms are ALSO available on the website if you wish to download and print the forms from there. The forms can be found under Admission and then under the ReEnrollment & Withdrawal tab. The complete Re-Enrollment Packet will include the…

1. 2. 3. 4. 5. 6. 7.

Re-Enrollment Clearance Form for SY2009-10 (2-pages) for each child in the family. Health Clinic Clearance Procedure (1-page) letter Health Clinic Updating Form (2-pages) for each child in the family Tuberculosis Screening Form (2-pages) for students entering Grades 1, 5, or 9 Parent and School Shared Agreements (4-pages) form for each child in the family OPTIONAL Board Proxy Form (1-page) for each family OPTIONAL PTA Directory Form (1-page) for each family

URGENT…if you know that your child(ren) will not be returning to ISM for the 2009-10 school year, please inform the Admission Office as soon as possible if you have not already done so. We currently have very few families indicating that they will not be returning and consequently there are an ever growing number of applicants in a WAITPOOL for possible openings. This is causing great distress and anxiety in those families (and in the Admission Office). If you are sure that your child will be leaving ISM, please submit a Withdrawal Notification Form or contact and verify with the Admission Office (840-8488) that he/she is listed as not returning for SY2009-10. The Withdrawal Notification Form can be obtained from the Admission Office or from the ISM website under the Admission tab and then click on Re-Enrollment & Withdrawal. This will be a great help for our planning and to the many families waiting to be admitted to the school. Thank you. Regards, Gary W. Jerome

To guarantee a place for the coming school year, the Cashier must receive $1,000 or its equivalent payment, on or before May 15, 2009. IASAS RESULTS: Our 3rd season IASAS results were truly outstanding with all teams gaining a medal at the season ending tournaments. This is a fantastic result for our school and one that has not happened for a number of years. All coaches and athletes should be extremely proud of their efforts during this season to achieve so highly against the other IASAS schools.

During the recent IASAS Board meeting in Singapore high praise was forthcoming from other IASAS AD’s and HS Principals’ as to how well ISM has done over the past two years and especially during this third season to medal in all tournaments. It was very pleasing to hear the many positive comments about how ISM students represent themselves as athletes and people in their interactions at the events.

As this year’s IASAS and sports season draw to a close, I would like to thank all coaches and students that have participated in our program this year. It has been a great year for ISM with a large number of medals across all seasons and a variety of sports. This does not happen without the dedication of students and coaches to the program and I hope that our recent wave of success will continue and grow further as we approach next year. I am excited about the new school year already and hosting IASAS Soccer first season will be a great start to our year and an event for our school community to really get behind and support.

Well done to all BEARCATS for your 08-09 efforts! 3rd Season Results: Track:

From Service Learning Help one of ISM's longstanding charities and get delicious coffee in return. CCV (Chosen Children’s Village) located in Silang, Cavite, is an orphanage for children who are physically and/or mentally challenged. The village consists of several cottages, a school, a rehabilitation center, and other facilities, such as a gym, a canteen, and a playground. Our ISM students will visit the orphanage at least six times this year to play with the kids and assist in feeding them and in other chores. Our interactions with the CCV children have created strong bonds between us and the ‘chosen children’.

ISM will be at CCV is on May 9, 2009, Saturday. AVAILABLE COFFEE: • Pinili Extra Fancy Beans or Ground at Php. 300.00 per 1 lb. (the largest sized beans).
