Leadership 1. A political leader, pursuing a passionate, personal cause. 2. An explorer, cutting a path through the jungle for the rest of his group to follow. 3. An executive, developing his company's strategy to beat the competition.
Lessons on Leadership from Captain Phillips The film focuses on two captains, the Alabama’s Captain Richard Philips who is a servant leaders. The Somali captain Muse who is a self-serving leader takes Captain Philips in hostage. In the rivalry between Philip and Muse the film gives us two pictures of leadership, notable for their similarities as much as for their differences. The similarities between two Captains was that both of them are simple businessmen and both have a job to do and a crew to manage. Before Captain Philips sail his ship, he double-checked every security spot on the ship.
He insists to prepare for emergency situation in case they run into pirates. Philips reminds his crew to prepare for the worst during the best of times.
He said to his chief engineer “Walk me through the plan.” He trusts his planning. no other words, Phillips reminds all leaders of the importance of effective planning. Muse on the other hand, recruit his team and prepared to hijacking for some “big fish” When he saw the Maersk Alabama cargo ship, he says that, “We cannot attack a herd. This one is alone.”
He knows what strategy to use and what decision can give them a better chance of winning. As a leader one must point out a clear directions for the crews to follow.
Both Captain Philips and Muse show grit, determination and ingenuity in their position as a leader.

To conclude, the movie thus gives us two pictures of command, highlighting the roles that choice, selflessness, and initiative play in shaping a leader. Captain Philips and Muse didn’t start from the same place, but they worked a similar job, made different choices, and ended with different fates. Captain Philips is a story of how choices we make matter. The actions we take cultivate our characters and ultimately define who we are. To be a servant leaders or not
