INTRODUCTION  Keerthi Chakra is a 2006 Indian Malayalam war film written and directed by Major Ravi. 

Mohanlal in lead as Major Mahadevan and Jiiva in a supporting role.

The film is based on true events related to insurgency in the Indian controlled region of Kashmir.

The film, the first in the Major Mahadevan film series.

The film was dubbed into Tamil titled Aran and some scenes were added for Prakash Raj in that version.

STORY 

Major Mahadevan (Mohanlal) is an officer deputed to the National Security Guards (NSG). He has been assigned to counter-terrorism duties in Kashmir and commands an elite group of NSG commandos.

The commandos raid a mosque in civilian dress and seize a big collection of arms and explosives.

A group of terrorists from Afghanistan and Pakistan conspire to hit the Hazratbal Shrine with a missile. They hijack a house that offers a good vantage point on the shrine and plant the missile there.

Some of them rape three girls in the house in front of their father and shoot a person who protests. A military patrolling vehicle hears the gunshot; as they approach the house, they are fired upon.

Contd…. 

The patrolling team intimates the NSG, and Mahadevan and his team immediately join the battle. After a long operation, the team kills the terrorists, frees the civilian hostages and disarms the missile. But a civilian informs that the chief of the terrorists is not to be seen among the corpses, and the commandos start a combing operation in the house.

They locate the terrorist and Mahadevan recognises the man as the one who killed his wife and daughter. The terrorist is killed but he manages to shoot at Mahadevan. Mahadevan is covered by Jaikumar, who gets hit by the bullet and dies. Jaikumar is awarded the Kirti Chakra.

STRENGTH

It shows the Unity and Coordination between the Military persons involved in the force. 

It makes every individual realize the actual hard work and sacrifice of an Army man is the reason behind the peace and happiness of our nation.

The intensity of a citizen's patriotism increases by seeing the dedication of every army man.

WEAKNESS 

The movie is about incidents happening in Kashmir in 2003. The dates are shown in screen also. But the mobile phones used, especially the Nokia 7610 used by Mohanlal, were released in 2004.

This movie is a pathetic display of what happens in Kashmir.

But the unfortunate part is that a movie about the highest ranks in Indian Militia turns out to be a pathetic display that only makes one think that the movie was not that great.

CONCLUSION

Keerthichakra is slick, fast paced action movie set against the backdrop of army among an elite commando group fighting insurgency in Kashmir. Director Major Ravi himself an army man has paid rigorous attention to the minute details in the recreation of an operation against terrorists.  The film pulls at your heart strings as Ravi is able to convey what is happening in Kashmir at the ground level and how the centre is shying away from tackling the issue fearing communal backlash.  How ordinary Muslim families in the valley are Indian at heart and does not care really for the Jihadi war is also essayed well by the director who shows the plight of Kashmiri family whose members are brutally raped and killed by the terrorists. It’s a very brutal scene which could have been trimmed a bit. 
