Warm-up activities speaking about mountains in our country (the highest, the most attractive for a holiday, leisure activities that can be done in mountain area etc.) describing the mountains in the photos using key words: to be boiling/ hot/ warm/ mild/ cool/ cold/ freezing, to rain heavily, to drizzle, to snow, a breeze, frost, lightning, a shower, a storm, thunder, to be changeable/ cloudy/ dry/ foggy/ overcast/ snowy/ sunny/ wet/ windy Grammar Focus: The Passive speaking about photos, about winter sports and students' experience, especially using: alpine skiing (downhill/ slalom), cross-country skiing, extreme skiing, freestyle skiing, ice hockey, ice skating, ski jumping, snowboarding reading the encyclopedia extracts, matching them with the headings given and paying special attention to the passive forms completing the rules for the Present Simple, Present Perfect and Past Simple Tense passive voice, especially referring to Grammar Summary 12, page 144 making the active sentences passive and emphasizing the importance of omitting/ expressing the “doer“ of the action providing more examples from everyday speech and completing the exercises given in the book (a short biography of Janica Kostelic, a Croatian skier; answering the questions to the Winter Olympics Quiz etc.) Skill Focus: Everest students say which key words (avalanche, continental plate, glacier, monsoon, natural environment, peak, sea level, slope, summit) they can see in the photo
reading the text, answering the questions, deciding whether the statements given are true or false, discussing different questions expressions with prepositions/adverbs: matching the definitions with the expressions from the article
