September 30, 2008 Dear NADE New Jersey members, We had our revival meeting! Small in number, we resolved to move forward with the renaissance of NJADE!! At the outset of the meeting, our NJADE chapter was invited to conduct a strand of presentations and even a business meeting during the New Jersey Association for Lifelong Learning (NJALL) conference, which will be held sometime between March and May of 2009. This would allow members to attend a relevant conference and have an additional opportunity to meet and discuss plans for a possible November 2009 NJADE conference. NJADE would need to submit an official letter to NJALL, requesting time and space at their conference. This would need to occur approximately by October 15. After discussion, Dr. Patty-Graham informed us of the initial steps we need to take in order to be recognized as a chapter of NADE. Immediately, we have to identify five officers: a President, PresidentElect, Immediate Past President, Secretary, and Treasurer. These also need to be NADE members. At this point, Jay Peterson offered to be Secretary, I offered to be the Immediate Past President, and Ruth Feigenbaum has offered to be Treasurer. We just need the President and President-Elect. All officers will be interim officers who will conduct the business of the chapter and make decisions until elections. These names need to be sent to NADE fairly soon. Jay has offered to create a distribution list and commit the current NJADE Constitution and By-Laws to an electronic version. During the first meeting, these documents will be reviewed and updated. They will, then, be sent to NADE along with a Chapter Activity Report form, so we will be officially re-established as a NADE chapter to conduct business. These meeting notes will serve as a request for your active participation in NADE’s redevelopment, maintenance, and growth. We need our New Jersey developmental educators for other NJADE positions, such as committee chairs and members for Adjunct Faculty, Archives, Awards, Constitution, Cultural Diversity, Elections, International Access, Marketing, Newsletter, Professional Job Opportunities, Political Liaison, Professional Development, Professional Liaison and Research. I borrowed from committees established by NADE; descriptions can be accessed through the NADE website. We would modify the positions to our needs here in New Jersey.

The next meeting is scheduled for Friday, October 31, 2008 at Raritan Valley Community College Campus, conference room West 220, in the West Building, from 10:00 to noon. Coffee will be provided. There is a request for someone to bring donuts or muffins. The following link is for directions and also provides an RVCC campus map: http://www.raritanval.edu/rvcc/frameset/maps_directions.html The agenda for the October 31st meeting includes reviewing and updating the Constitution and By-Laws (they were drawn up initially in 1982), confirming interim officers and organizing NJADE members’ participation at the NJALL conference. At a future NJADE meeting to be held prior (between November 1, 2008 and March, 2009) to participation at the NJALL conference, the discussion will be around developing a budget, sorting out chapter fiscal matters and developing a website.
