Oil Energy Oil is a non-renewable resource. It takes years to create. Non-renewable resources can run out or be used up. Oil is a fossil fuel because it was made from plants and animals that were once alive.

Generating electricity from oil Oil, which can be burnt right away, is burnt. Then it heats water, the water makes steam, the steam turns a turbine which turns a generator, which generates electricity.

Advantages 1. Transporting oil to power stations is easy. 2. A fossil fuel power station can be built anywhere. 3. It makes life easier by helping us with everyday things, e.g. driving a car.

Disadvantages 1. Oil causes pollution. 2. It disturbs land and ocean habitats. 3. Oil is a non-renewable source which takes millions of years to create.
