Making time for Read Alouds in the Middle School Classroom
My Reading Workshop 55 minute periods
Read Aloud 8-15 minutes -Have gone as long as 20 minutes -Use this time for modeling/think alouds
1. Establish a regular routine. 2. Make connections to your read-aloud throughout the day and the course of the year.
Minilesson 25-30 minutes -students use independent reading books and our read aloud to practice skills
3. Choose books you enjoy 4. Choose books that connect to various parts of the curriculum.
Sharing 5-10 minutes -Try to do booktalks a few times each week
