Why is the Lunar New Year not January 1? What does Lunar Mean?

The Lunar New Year follows the Lunar Calendar. January 1 is the Solar Calendar New Year. In the Solar Calendar, a year is when the earth makes a full circle around the sun. A Lunar year is when the moon makes 12 full circles around the earth.

Every lunar year has an animal associated with it.

Can anyone guess this year’s animal?

Who do I spend Lunar New Year with? Just like Thanksgiving and other holidays, Lunar New Year is a time people usually spend with Family and good friends.

Clothing and Colors How often do you buy new clothes? Every year, my family gets at least one piece of new red clothing for New Year’s. When my grandparents were children, sometimes the new clothes they got for the holiday were the only new clothes they got all year!
