A REPORT ON THE PROBLEM OF TUBER CLOSIS, MALNUTRITION, AND HUNGER IN WEAVER AREA LOHTA, VARANASI

Case No – 1 Rehana age 32 years oldwife of Mohd Hafiz lives in street Dhamariya, Lohta Varanasi. From one year Rehana is suffering from tuber closis and her weight is only 31 kg. Due to lose in this occupation Rehana husband left weaving occupation last 3 years back she also cooperate her husband in weaving sari. Now they are selling snacks in the village for their livelihood the income is so less that they can’t effort their whole day food and medical treatment. She went to government hospital for her treatment but she cannot effort x-ray and other test. Rehana 3 year’s daughter is also sick. Due to worst condition and not getting proper food and treatment their disease is increasing. Till now they did`t get BPL card. Case No – 2 Zubeeda Bibi 55 year old widow of Late Rahmat Ali, lives in street Mahmood pur Lohta Varanasi. She is suffering from tuber closis last 8 years; her weight is only 40 kg. Zubeeda have three unmarried daughter and one younger son who is six years old, she lost husband three years back. Zubeeda daughter stick embroidery items in saris if she get sari then she complete in two or three days and earn thirty to forty rupees, in that amount it is difficult to feed all of them. Due to malnutrition the family of Zubeeda is getting in the grip of disease. Zubeeda start crying while telling her problem that, in front of her there is problem of feeding Children and marriage of her daughter. The economic condition of the family is very much worst, anyhow she buy ration from BPL card. Zubeeda have no money to go hospital and get her treatment. As being the head of the family and due to sickness Zubeeda is unable to economically support her family.

Case No -3 Ashma age 40 years old second wife of Mohd. Reyaz lives in street Mahmood pur, Lohta, Varanasi. Mohd Reyaz first wife died, she had four children and Ashma have two children. Mohd. Reyaz is alcohic and work as carpet weaver in Bhadohi. He daily spends twenty to thirty rupees in drinking alcohol, but not in the

treatment of his wife Ashma. She is suffering from cough last three years. Now Ashma is living in her father house where her brother Mustaq took her to public welfare hospital Kamachha, Varanasi Where x-ray had been done but the she was not properly diagnosed. She is fearful with her husband attitude, disease and nurturing her children. Due to economic poverty they can’t get full diet. Case no- 4 Ramzan Ali age 30 years old lives in Mahmood pur Lohta, Varanasi. Ramzan Ali is sever sick with cough and fever from last 3 month. He has three children, his elder daughter is fourteen year old she lost her one eye while playing small piece of wood stuck on her eyes then also when she find work than she stick embroidery item in dupatta in one or two days and earn fifteen to twenty rupees. Due to bad economic condition other two children of age 10 and 8 years also engaged in child labour. Ramzan Ali wife cares him; the condition is so worst that he is unable to get medical treatment. There is one loom in his house that is closed than Ramzan Ali went outside to weave on power loom. No assistance is provided from Government and Neighbors, they don’t get BPL card. Ramzan Ali have no money to go hospital, Ramzan wife is discouraged with condition of Ramzan Ali and his wife start crying because he his not getting proper treatment and food. If immediate medical facility and food is not provided to Ramzan he may die. Ramzan Ali has no Weaver Identity Card. In future Ramzan family member may suicide. Case No-5 Badruddin age 34 years old lives in Dhamariya, Lohta Varanasi. He is sick from last eight years; because of his sickness Baddrudin is hopeless and always lives in tension. He has a wife two daughter and one son. He told that in last three month he earn only 800 rupees, his wife and children stick embroidery item in sari in one or two days and earn 20 to 30 rupees, so in this amount how a family will get food or the treatment of Badruddin? In this condition also he have desire to educate his daughter, he said that in Government school no proper education is given to children and they don’t have BPL card so they can buy ration on low price.
