PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE Fall is my favorite time of year! This summer has been an eventful one. Our Hampton Picnic and educational meeting with Tony Monaco, as our speaker, was a success as it always is in this beautiful setting. We are now looking forward to our annual Seminar and Vender Exhibits, October 24th. This event gives us a chance to visit with our peers as well as getting the necessary contact hours for our Certification. Our speakers will make this event "extra special". Brenda Sexton, IAHCSMM'a President, will bring her expertise to our Long Island Chapter. Kathi O'Shaughnessy is our own "Hall of Famer" will bring her many years of experience to her presentation. IAHCSMM's fall meeting will be held in San Antonio, Texas. We are looking forward to a very successful Convention. Our own Don Gordon, Past President of LIACS and Juile Jefferson, Director for LIACS, are among the speakers at this event! As a reminder, check our Web Site for updates and new events. We will look forward to seeing ALL at our October 24 Seminar. Please remember, this is your "organization", be involved!!! Happy Fall .... Corrine Van Note President

We are Professionals!? Is Central Service a Profession? I believe we are. We perform a service within the hospital that can affect the lives of any patient having a surgical FIVE CS TECHNICIANS PASS procedure. Not too many people in this world are capable of doing what we LIACS Certification Course;! do. The successful outcome for the patient is dependent on the many individuals involved with the care of this patient. But our role is paramount in the successful outcome for the patient. This insures that the surgical procedure is being performed with sterile instruments, to prevent infection that could gravely affect the end result of the procedure if not performed properly.

In my opinion, it seems as though we do some pretty important things in our hospital. Then how come people in our hospital sometimes do not give us the respect we deserve? As promised, LIACS will pay the "test application fee" ($95) for these new RCST's to take the IAHCSMM Certification Exam. Maybe it is because we do not portray ourselves as professionals all of the time. Are we keeping abreast of the latest technology, do we read our CONGRATULATIONS AND GOOD LUCK! professional publications, attend educational meetings, participate in our professional associations, network With other professionals in our field? Do we frequently use the same old "cliche" - "I just don't have the time.;"? A "no" answer to any of these questions, may signal to you that it is time for YOU to do some "soul searching" - attend seminars and educational meetings, join the LIACS "CHAT," on the website (www.liacs.com), go on the IAHCSMM Discussion Forum (www. iahcsmm.com) and find out what your colleagues are discussing. Be active and educated in your profession PARTICIPATE in all aspects of Central Service.

IAHCSMM Fall Meeting: November LIACS Educational Meeting: LIACS Annual Holiday Dinner/Dance:

Shaun and James asked Don if CYGNUS Medical could participate in the important role the LIACS plays in the educational process in the region. CYGNUS would offer with no financial commitments by the hospitals a video in-service library for each participating hospital. The hospitals' only investment is the time they take to help create a video module. Don contacted his co-chairperson Christa Walsh and President Corrine Van Note and both gave the "go ahead."
