February 19, 2019 Dear Language and Culture Ambassadors Program Advisors, I am writing this letter to strongly recommend Freddy Ramos as a candidate to the Language and Culture Assistants Program supported by the Spanish Ministry of Education and Vocational Training. Freddy would be an excellent choice for this program. He is intelligent, responsible, hardworking, a good communicator, and he is able to thrive in a new cultural environment and work hard to support students. I have known Freddy since the spring of 2018 when he was a student in my Writing in Biology course. This course is limited in size, so I had multiple opportunities to work closely with Freddy, observe him collaborating in class, review various writing assignments, and assess him giving several oral presentations. Freddy always selected interesting topics to write about and he would convey his passion and enthusiasm for these topics in his writing. Because he is excited to begin on this new cultural adventure, I have no doubt that he will be dedicated to your students and he will work hard to help them improve their English language skills. During his time at UMass, Freddy was also a manager at People’s Market, a student-run business on campus. His work at People’s Market demonstrates his responsibility, his ability to work on a team for a common cause, and his ability to effectively manage the demands of multiple stakeholders. Freddy can think critically, communicate effectively, and work with people from diverse backgrounds. I hope you give Freddy’s application serious consideration and accept him into your program.

Sincerely,

2/19/2019 Caralyn B. Zehnder PhD Biology Lecturer University of Massachusetts Amherst
