For SGA VP of International Students Dear Colleagues, I am writing to express my intent to run for the Student Government Association’s office of Vice President of International Students for the 2010-2011 school years. I deeply value the richness of our international community and believe that our international students can make a significant contribution to the McDonough School of Business as students and as alumni. Our international students have tremendous potential to achieve prominence in the global economy and to further solidify the MSB brand and reputation abroad. As such, my platform for the S.G.A. V.P. of International Students position is to enhance the academic and social experiences amongst my fellow international students and to voice the needs and concerns of our international community. My action plan is outlined below: Career Leadership

• •

Arrange networking opportunities with corporations that hire international students. ○ Assist international students on navigating the career search process and identifying prospective employers Develop relationship with international companies that operate in the U.S. Organize a speaker series with executives that have an international background.

Cultural Awareness & Social Activities

• • •

Host an Annual Diversity Day. ○ Get to know the world on this yearly event. Highlight a country a month. ○ Promote different countries each month by facilitating cultural and educational events with students from that country to teach other MSB students about their home countries Plan an international get together once a mod. ○ Sponsor social events for the international community. ○ Collaborate with other student clubs within MSB.

Foster Collaboration between the MBS international community and the Georgetown and DC international communities • Co-sponsor events such as speaker series, networking and happy hours with the School of Foreign Services international community and GiGSO (Georgetown International Graduate Students Organization). • Organize networking events for internationals students from all MBA programs in the DC area such as George Washington University and the University of Maryland. I believe it is time for international students to take a stronger leadership role within the MSB community. As such, it will be my honor and privilege to help ensure a platform exists for students to cross cultural bridges and capitalize on these assets. Sincerely, Leo Halim Candidate for VP of International Students
