To whom it may concern,
Hello, my name is Samantha Ames. I am a senior at Bayside High School, but I am also dually enrolled full-time at Eastern Florida State College. I have been drawing, making up stories, and writing my whole life with no intent of stopping. After attending a key speaker presentation on ‘The Bee and the Acorn: the story of SCAD’ from Ms. Paula Wallace herself at Kennedy Space Center, I knew that SCAD is where I needed to go. Ms. Wallace even thumbed through my portfolio with me and became one of those big life moments that just felt surreal. I love how woven in with city Savannah College of Art and Design has become and how it was born so simply from a humble vision. Every time I go to Savannah I am blown away with how SCAD transformed the city and how much the college has achieved. Every person in Savannah is touched by SCAD and they speak of the college with such reverence. I, being a creative minded person and always seeking original inspiration, am very interested in attending SCAD myself for my B.F.A and possibly even my M.F.A in Visual Effects. I have looked into every major offered at SCAD and even attended a SCAD Day, and still I am awestruck most by the Visual Effects program and the amazing output by the talented students. Their ability to make objects on a screen look so real makes me feel like I know exactly what I should be spending my life doing. Visual Effects artists are the Dali of the screen. To me, Visual Effects is like blending the tangibility of realism with the seed of human imagination. Being both an artist and a novelist of sorts, I can see myself doing nothing short of applying reality to a dream, convincing the viewer that what they see is really what was. To be the one
who made someone see magic through a screen. I love the beginnings, the concept of a thought all the way to that polished finished production. I am very prepared for the classes and the coursework. I love learning, moreso when I see the value and the vision. I’m not sure which classes I would choose amongst the Visual Effects required courses, but I am particularly interested in the entire journey from concept to professional development. Time will only tell which leg of the journey I fall into step with the most. Here at SCAD I hope to gain the knowledge and the experpertise to propel myself into a career where I can bring to life magical creatures and worlds born from imagination for the eyes of an expansive audience. I’m not quite sure what the exact title of such a career may be yet, but I believe that SCAD will help me see into the life of a professional in the field. Thank you for your time, Sincerely, Samantha Sea Ames
