Thursday March 26, 2009 3 (10:40-11:20) 5-3 Matthew Terrana (Native Teacher – NT) Gloria Teacher (Korean Teacher – KT) What day is it today? (Unit 2-1) The students will begin to learn how the different days of the week and learn about the different subjects in school Textbook, computer with CD-Rom, powerpoint for Chapter 2

Introduction and Review (5 minutes) Do a short introduction and review to prepare the class with the previous day materials and teachers. This introduction will go as follows:  NT & KT: “Good morning students” Students (Ss) “Good morning Matthew Teacher…”  NT “How are you today?”  Ss “I’m fine, thank you”  NT: “How’s the weather today?”  Ss “It’s ________________”  NT: “Ok, very good!” Next, the NT will do a short review with what was studied in the previous class. The NT can do some basic review of things that were studied in the previous year.  NT “What did we study last class?”  SS “We studied ‘How are you today?”  NT We also studied “Is this your bag?” Look and Listen (10 minutes) Have students open the books to page 8. Ask the students some very easy questions about the picture  NT Who is she?  SS She is Ann.  NT Now her, who is he?  SS He is Jinho.

Next, have the students watch the screen and have them listen very carefully to the predialog. Have some easy questions ready for the students after the dialog so they understand the questions about greetings and introductions. Dialog Jinho What day is it today? I have English, math, music and Korean Jinho Hi Ann, How are you? Ann Fine, thanks, and you? Jinho Good Ann You look happy today. Jinho Yes, I am happy. We have English class today. Ann English? We don’t have English class today. Jinho Yes we do. Ann No, we don’t. Jinho What day is it today? Ann It’s Wednesday Jinho Really? Oh no! Then we will ask some question about the dialog  KT Who is she?  SS She is Ann.  KT Is she Julie?  SS No, she is Ann.  NT Ok, at the start of the dialog, where is Jinho?  SS He is at home.  NT Ok, good. Do you remember what Jinho says at his house?  SS ‘What day is it today?’  NT Good, let’s say that one more time  SS ‘What day is it today?’ Next, play the dialog one more time, and ask the students to focus on the days of the week and the subjects. Then we will ask some question about the dialog  NT Do you remember what Ann says?  SS ‘You look happy today?’  NT Good. What did Jinho say?  SS ‘I am have today. We have English class today’  NT Does Jinho have English class today?  SS No he doesn’t

NT What day do is in the dialog?  SS It’s Wednesday Next, play the dialog one more time, and go over the introductions that were provided, using the video. 

Listen and Repeat (5 minutes) The teachers introduce the listen and repeat to the class and tell the student’s first to listen to dialog 1) Jinho What day is it today? Ann It’s Wednesday. 2) Jinho We have English class today. Ann English? We don’t have English class today. Then with the teacher’s help, the students practice the listen and repeat together as a class. Then the teacher splits the class (boys & girls, row-by-row) and then practice the listen and repeat. Then the teacher chooses two volunteers to practice the listen and repeat. The teacher can do this part 2 or 3 times with the students. After the first listen and repeat is completed, the teachers can do this with the second listen and repeat exercise. Powerpoint (10 minutes) The powerpoint will review the sentences that we have studied in the chapter and have the students go over some of the important phrases and new words. Wrap-Up Time to finish the class  NT “Ok, children we are finished English Class today.”  KT “Did you have fun today?”  Ss “Yes!!!!”  KT “Ok, goodbye students, say goodbye to Matthew Teacher”  Ss “Goodbye, goodbye Matthew Teacher  NT “Goodbye, see you next time.”
