Lesson plan 23/09/18 Set 1 – comprehensive version of other lessons left and right hand reading. If very confident get them to play piano accompaniment and sing if they want to, they can just play if they want. Can start with lead line then add left hand and then right hand piano accompaniment. Set 2 – Mainly focusing on reading note values - adjust set 3 plan for notes rather than rhythms. Same as set 3 but going straight to playing the notes. If done well get them to move on to another piece If anyone is really advanced they can try left hand too. Set 3 – Mainly focusing on reading and understanding rhythms – can move on if you feel it is appropriate. -Give out sheet music -Give them 10 minutes to themselves trying to read the rhythm of one of the numbered bits of music. -After 10 minutes start to go round the class individually (whilst the others keep working) listening to their rhythms and correcting them if they need it. (either with a random note on the piano or tapping out) -Once you’ve gone round everyone, if they struggled, spend 5/10 minutes giving examples of rhythms (on board if there is one) and get the whole class to clap through the rhythms as a group or /and going round the class and giving them different ones to clap. -Get individuals to come up and write out a rhythm you clap for them OR get them to write a rhythm and the rest of the class clap it back to them. (or if they’re not getting too tired of it do both) -Do similar thing with notes – draw a note etc get them to say what the note is and play the note on the piano. – get people to come up and write out notes (optional) add note values on. - Now they know what rhythms they were playing from the sheet music get them to try play the notes – give them 10 minutes then go round the class again like before playing the tune, helping where necessary. -If they’ve done well with it and there is time you can get them to start on another bit of music either from the top of the process (figuring out rhythms) or if feeling confident they can go straight to playing the notes. (IM NOT ENTIRELY SURE OF THE LEVEL THEY ARE AT SO PLEASE GAUGE WHEN THERE AND ADJUST ACCORDINGLY)
