Nodig hebben The forms for ‘ze/zij’ singular

and for ‘het’ are the same as The Dutch verb 'nodig hebben' (to need)the consists of 2 parts: the word 'nodig' (necessary) one listed here for ‘hij’. and the verb 'hebben‘ (to have). Hebben is an irregualar verb, so you'll have to learn the conjugation by heart: ik heb je hebt hij heeft we hebben jullie hebben ze hebben As you can see, in the present tense only the third person singular is irregular. You can say that you need something by putting the thing you need between the form of hebben and the word nodig: Ik heb een paraplu nodig. I need an umbrella Hij heeft een boek nodig. He needs a book. Wij hebben een grote taart nodig. We need a big cake.

Grammatica Geen In lesson three you learned that the Dutch word for 'not' is 'niet'. 'I don't have an umbrella' would than translate 'Ik heb niet een paraplu.' However, we don't like the words niet and een together. Therefore we use the word 'geen' NIET + EEN = GEEN --> I don't have an umbrella.

Ik heb geen paraplu.

You can translate 'geen' by the English word 'no': I have no umbrella. This is substandard English, but it is really the only way to write it in Dutch.
