Three Periods of the Middle Ages Because of its length, it is easier to learn the Middle Ages as being divided into 3 different periods.

Early Medieval Period The rise of the Carolingian dynasty, was the final end to the Roman Empire. One man was largely responsible for the many accomplishments of this period. His name was Charles the Great, or more commonly known as Charlemagne.
