¿Qué día es hoy? What day is today? Welcome to learning Spanish with JC, the podcast created for all the independent learners of Spanish. In this lesson you are going to learn:

Arely: Si Señor, permítame un momento. El día de hoy tiene una junta con los proveedores de equipo de cómputo a las 3 de la tarde. Yes Mr., let me a moment. Today you have a meeting with the suppliers of computers equipments at 3 o’clock in the afternoon.

Carlos: Ah por cierto hoy en la tarde no voy a estar. Podrías cambiar la junta para el próximo lunes dieciséis de noviembre a la misma hora. Ah by the way today in the afternoon I won't be here. You could change the meeting for next Monday November sixteen at the same hour.

Arely: ¡Claro Señor con mucho gusto! Yo los llamo para cambiar la junta. Sure Mr. is a pleasure! I call them for change the meeting.

Carlos: ¿Qué otras juntas tengo está semana? What other meetings I have this week?

Arely: El miércoles once de noviembre tiene una junta con el área de finanzas para revisar el presupuesto del próximo año. The Wednesday November eleven you have a meeting with finance area for review the budget of the next year.

Lesson 5: Days, Months and Dates Arely: Señor también quería decirle que acaba de llamar su jefe para cancelar la comida del día de hoy. Me dijo que si es posible moverla para el viernes trece a las cuatro de la tarde. Mr. Too I want to tell you your boss just call me for cancel the today meal/lunch. He told me if it is possible to move to the next Friday thirteen at 4 o’clock in the afternoon.

Carlos: Esta bien, dile que no hay problema que nos vemos el viernes. Gracias. Is fine, tells him there is not problem that we see each other on Friday. Thank you.

Days, Months and Dates in Spanish The days of the weeks in Spanish starts from Monday and they are: Lunes Monday

Martes Tuesday

Miércoles Wednesday

Jueves Thursday

Viernes Friday

Sábado Saturday

Domingo Sunday

In Spanish the days of the week are not capitalized and all of them are masculine. Example: El lunes es el día más aburrido de la semana (Monday is the day more bored of the week). Only the days “Sábado” and “Domingo” change from singular to plural, for these days you need to add an “-s” at the end for the plural. The other days that end in “s” never change they are the same in singular en plural. Examples: El sábado yo no trabajo.  The Saturday I don’t work. Todos los sábados vamos al cine.  All the Saturdays we go to the cinema. El domingo es para descansar.  The Sunday is for to rest. Los domingos vamos al parque.  The Sundays we go to the park. El próximo lunes es feriado.  The next Monday is holiday. Los lunes tengo clases de inglés.  The Mondays I have English classes. ¿Qué día es hoy? What day is today? Hoy es lunes. Today is Monday. Mañana es martes. Tomorrow is Tuesday. Some expressions with months are: Vamos a México en diciembre. We are going to Mexico in January.

Las clases empiezan en el mes de septiembre. Classes begin in September.

What’s the date? ¿Cuál es la fecha de hoy?  What’s the date today? Hoy es viernes, primero de mayo de 2009  Today is Friday, May 1st of 2009. ¿Qué día es hoy?  What day is today? Hoy es sábado, dos de mayo de 2009  Today is Saturday, May 2nd of 2009. ¿Qué día del mes es hoy?  What day of the month is today? Hoy es nueve de noviembre de 2009  Today is November 9th of 2009. ¿A qué estamos hoy?  What's the date today? Estamos a catorce de agosto de 2009  we are at August 14th of 2009. In Spanish only for the first day of the month we use the Ordinal Number (Primero), for all the rest of the days we use the cardinal number.
