The personal pronouns (Pronombres personales) In the lesson 2 we review a brief introduction of the personal pronouns when we conjugate the verb “to be” (verbo Ser), but here in this lesson I want to explain more carefully the personal pronouns and some adjectives.

Personal Pronouns Adjectives The adjectives are used commonly to describe a noun or for distinguish a noun in a group of similar objects. In Spanish some adjectives can modify the form when they are applied to a noun masculine or feminine. Yo soy alto. I am tall. Tú eres alto. You are tall. (Informal or familiar) Usted es alto/a. You are tall. (Formal masculine/feminine) Él es alto. He is tall. Ella es alta. She is tall. Nosotros somos altos. We are tall. Ustedes son altos. You‐all are tall. (plural) Ellos son altos. They are tall. (masculine) Ellas son altas. They are tall. (feminine) Yo soy delgado. I am thin. Tú eres delgado. You are thin. Usted es delgado/a. You are thin. Él es delgado. He is thin. Ella es delgada. She is thin. Nosotros somos delgados. We are thin. Ustedes son delgados. You‐all are thin. Ellos son delgados. They are thin. Ellas son delgadas. They are thin. Yo soy rubio. I am blond. Tú eres rubio. You are blond. Usted es rubio/a. You are blond. Él es rubio. He is blond. Ella es rubia. She is blond. Nosotros somos rubios. We are blond. Ustedes son rubios. You‐all are blond. Ellos son rubios. They are blond. Ellas son rubias. They are blond. The adjectives that end in –o usually are masculine and the adjectives that end in –a usually are feminine. There are exceptions to these two rules and you will soon be learning them.

Lesson 3: Personal pronouns and Adjectives Adjectives (Singular and plural) In some cases the adjectives also can change the form depending if the word that they modify is singular or plural. El libro es amarillo. The book is yellow. Los libros son amarillos. The books are yellow. La casa es amarilla. The house is yellow. Las casas son amarillas. The houses are yellow. El carro es rojo. The car is red. Los carros son rojos. The cars are red. La silla es roja. The chair is red. Las sillas son rojas. The chairs are red. Roberto es abogado. Roberto is a lawyer. Carlos y Miguel son abogados. Carlos and Miguel are lawyers. María es abogada. Maria is a lawyer. Karla y María son abogadas. Karla and Maria are lawyers. Usted es fuerte. You are strong. (Singular) Ustedes son fuertes. You are strong. (Plural) Yo soy mexicano. I am Mexican. Los estudiantes son mexicanos. The students are Mexican. Usted es americano. You are American. Ellas son americanas. They are American. Él es muy trabajador. He is very hard‐ working. Ella es muy trabajadora. She is very hard‐working. Ellos son muy trabajadores. They are very hard‐working. El café está caliente. The coffee is hot. Los panes están calientes. The breads are hot. El profesor es brillante. The teacher is brilliant. Los estudiantes son brillantes. The students are brilliant.
Some adjectives end in –e like “fuerte o caliente” (strong or hot) don’t have gender, they only have singular and plural.
