Materials

Strip of cardstock or patterned paper 5 ½” wide and 8” Bits of origami (washi) paper – 1” x 1 ½” and 1” x 4 ½” String Glue

General Instructions or craft words: Washi Paper is made from rice. Originating in Japan, it is often found in craft stores with the origami materials.

Kimono Card with Template 2 of 3 crafterstudio™ instructions Instructions: 1. Print scoring diagram on the back side of your card stock. 2. Cut paper to 5 ½” x 8”. 3. Score line A-B and then score line CD.

4. Fold toward center as shown in photo 1. Photo 1 5. Clip as shown in photo 2 along solid lines.

7. Unfold step 6. Reverse fold the piece so that it ends up inside of the card. NOTE: Reverse fold means that you fold something “inside” of the previous fold. It is sometimes called a valley fold because it represents a valley between two mountains. 8. Round the edge of the “sleeve” as shown in photo 5. 9. Cut the diagonal lines to make a “neckline”.

10.Create a Liner for the inside. Use complimentary paper of any type. Trace the Kimono card and cut inside the pencil lines so that it is slightly smaller than the card. Glue to inside. 11. Make a tiny fan from the 1” x 1” washi. Pierce the end, and thread string through it. Photo 5

12.Make the obi by cutting the 1 x 4 ½” washi strip in two. Tack end of one piece with adhesive in the underarm fold. Bring remainder around front and fold over front edge into card. Glue edge. Repeat for other side. If desired, the string that the fan is attached to can be tucked under the obi.

13.Finish with decorative cording.

Alternate ideas Add a small Asian coin to the outside or stamp inside.
