Kicking Drills All drills can be adapted for inside and outside of the foot kicking Hit the Target - Students can work individually, in pairs or in small groups - Cones are set up in an area, positioned at different distances and angles away - Students line up behind the kicking line (use line of field) - One at a time (or one from each group) students are to kick the ball, aiming for the cones - Each time a cone is hit, a point is awarded to that student/team - Students should focus on correct technique of the soccer kick - The group/student with the most points at the end becomes the winner Progression - Changes distances of cones - Add at time limit - Increase kicking difficulty (angles, obstacles) - Use inside and outside of foot kick KTPS - Ankle locked and thigh turned outward - Looking up - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through - Accuracy towards target Slam -

Students to work in pairs, positioned in front of a goal set up in front of a wall The goal is set up with cones, approximately 3 metres apart. Each player has three lives The first player kicks the ball into the goal so that it rebounds out The second player must then play the ball back into the goal before it stops, followed by the first player doing the same thing - Students play until one misses the goal, lets the ball stop or cannot play the ball the first time. - The player who loses that round loses a life - Students continue until one player runs out of lives Progression - Use inside and outside of foot kick/pass - Decrease size of the goal - Increase kicking length KTPS - Ankle locked and thigh turned outward - Looking up - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through - Accuracy towards target Kicking on the running - Students work in groups of three with one ball - Students are to kick the ball around the triangle (student B to A to C) whilst running along the field - Students are to remain in their group, kicking between them continuously down the field - On the way back, the distance between kicks can be increased to a long kick

Progression - Add competition between other groups - Increase kicking distance - Increase area of play KTPS - Ankle locked and thigh turned outward - Connect with the middle of the ball just before the instep - Follow through with accuracy towards partner - Effective positioning to kick the moving ball
