QUESTION 1 A group of biology students carried out an experiment to determine the content of carbon dioxide in exhaled air of an athlete after three different types of vigorous activities: cycling, swimming and running. Each activity was done for 20 minutes and between the activities there is an hour rest. A J-tube is used in this experiment. Sekumpulan pelajar biologi menjalankan satu eksperimen untuk menentukan kandungan karbon dioksida dalam udara hembusan seorang ahli sukan, selepas menjalankan tiga aktiviti cergas: berbasikal, berenang dan berlari. Setiap aktiviti dilakukan selama 20 minit dan di antara setiap aktiviti ia diberi rehat selama satu jam. Tiub-J digunakan dalam eksperimen ini. Diagram 1 shows the initial length of air column in J-tube is 6.4 cm before potassium hydroxide (KOH) solution is used. The function KOH is to absorb carbon dioxide gas.
