JDBC Website Under Construction In late June, the PMI JDBC began modernizing its website www.pmijdbc.com. Over the years, there have been challenges with the format of the website, site maintenance and management of the members area. The modernization now underway will address these challenges and make the website more user friendly and appealing. Carina Cockburn, VP Communications elaborates "We took the decision to decommission the current website to signal a distinct break between the old and new format. We expect to re-launch the site by early September with at least the front page and to add additional features during the following months. Based on the recent membership survey, this has been a significant area of concern for our members and we have made it a priority to recreate a website that reflects the personality of the Chapter and that all members can be proud of." Look out for the new website coming in September 2009!

DID YOU MISS IT? Dr. Beverley Morgan was Guest Speaker for June 10th Anniversary Commemorative Meeting – Topic: “As Managers, What is our Role in Building a Decent Society?”

PMI JDBC Honours Past Presidents for 10th Anniversary The Doctor Bird Chapter celebrates a major milestone this year! It’s our 10th Anniversary since inception! We hosted our June 9th Chapter Meeting at the Hotel Four Seasons during which our President since 2007, Mr. Cecil White, gave a brief history of the PMI JDBC. He recalled: “In 1999, against the backdrop of the gas riots and the Y2K bug preparation…a small group of professionals banded together to form the PMI JDBC, at a time when no one knew what Project Managers were.”

“Something we were withholding made us weak” (Robert Frost) So began Dr. Morgan’s highly inspirational speech at our June Chapter meeting marking the Chapter’s 10th Anniversary. She urged us to let trusting behaviour become muscle memory in order to help us achieve the Vision 2030 of Jamaica. “We have the unique opportunity to build Social Capital and Virtue as Project Managers/Leaders, that lead to trusting business relationships, which in turn give us fewer worries and facilitate lower transaction costs, eg. not requiring contracts for every agreement.”

Mr. White continued: “They had great foresight and stood in total defiance of the thinking at the time. Today we honour those pioneers.” We have 5 past presidents: Our Founding President, Claire Sutherland, drafted the first Constitution and only minor changes have been made since then. She served for the year 1999. Patrick Brown served from 200001; Hugh Gordon: 2002; Karen Smyth-Witter (Jamaica’s first PMP): 2002–05; Cheryl McIntyre-Hall: 2006-07. Each Past President in attendance was honoured with a gift from the Chapter.
