Foothills Prospectors Meeting Minutes July 15, 2009 Opening:
Benjamin Underwood called the initial meeting of the Foothills Prospectors to order at 1905 on July 15, 2009 in Golden, Co.

The agenda was unanimously approved as distributed. Approval of Minutes This was the initial meeting and no previous meeting minutes were available. Open Issues 1. Club Name --- Suggested name for club was Foothills Prospectors. A call was made for group to summit by –e-mail other names for consideration. Latter it was determined through discussion that a name should be chosen at this meeting to facilitate filing of paper work with GPAA in a timely manner particularly for GPAA announcements, membership renewals and the creation of a web page. The motion was made for the selection of the name to be Foothills Prospectors and second was offered. The motion carried by a show of hands vote. The club will be known as the Foothills Prospectors. 2. Meeting Dates --- Discussion was held about time and date conflicts that could possibly conflict with other groups and organizations and a verbal vote was held with “yea” votes winning with the meeting date selection to be the 1st Tuesday of the month @ 1900 from this date forward. Later other possible conflicts with this time were brought forward and a second vote held on changing meeting dates and time to the 1st Wednesday of the month and motion did not carry. The meeting time and date will remain the 1st Tuesday of the month @1900. 3. Election of Officers – Election of Officers will be held at the next scheduled meeting August 4th, 2009. Summit nominations via e-mail to Benjamin Underwood or nominate at next meeting. One person cannot hold more than 2 offices.
4. Funding --- Club dues, how much and uses of were discussed with no action taken. Feedback was provided of what other organizations dues and assessments were. New Business and Discussion a. LDMA membership cost and advantages were discussed. b. Similar organizations were discussed along with items on their meeting agendas being brought forward for possible inclusion in this clubs common interest discussion. c. Clear Creek and open space rules were discussed about motorized equipment and it was mentioned that Permits were available at the Jefferson County Land Management and Ranger Station in Golden, Co. d. Gilpin County motorized rules were brought up. e. Question – What is a fire pan? Definition and construction details provided. f. Discussion of what constitutes a family member and guest on GPAA Claims and what they are allowed to do. Definition was read from GPAA Mining Claim Guide. g. Permit availability in Como area is at junction of highways 285 & 89 h. How to handle cost of refreshments for meetings Announcements 1. When renewing GPAA membership list club name on renewal form on website. 2. Benjamin Underwood offered to help anyone needing computer or assistance with. 3. In order for GPAA to continue supporting and providing claims in Colorado feed back of interest and use must be provided to them. 4. GPAA membership numbers are need for roster at next meeting. 5. Recommendation for “Places to Go” will be included in Newsletter. 6. Breckenridge Panning Championship is this weekend. Suggestion to meet at the clubhouse and travel or car pool together to this event(s) or others as scheduled. 7. Generate interest and spread word about new club being formed
8. Jim Fariello Vice President of the World Wide Association of Treasure Seekers addressed the group about the WWATS organization outlining the common interest our groups share relating to ongoing and upcoming regulatory issues such as public land access, closures and prospecting techniques. Jim encouraged all to sign up for membership in the WWATS organization and the web links will be listed in the links section of this report. Jim shared some of his expertise and experience with various equipment with the membership. Jim told of his professional background and offered to assist with research and mapping information. Jim offered to develop club website and offered numerous links of interest to this group. Website email and password will be original set to 12345. 9. Stewart Berry spoke on the “Pit Falls and Snares” of the upcoming zoning meetings regarding areas around Alma that historically are mining areas that the zoning commission is considering changing from mining to residential. It is felt that residential use will close this area to prospecting of any kind. The first meeting is August 20th, 2009 Stewart encourage all in attendance to write in opposition to this zoning request or attend and express displeasure with this issue in this area. Explore level of experience of group and what group would offer assistance on to organization. C. Determine interest in Metal Detector use. D. Dues quantity of and the use of. Fund raising and with resources available i.e. Auctions, donations and raffles etc. E. Discussion of what constitutes a family member and guest on GPAA Claims and what they are allowed to do.
