2. JOB PURPOSE To carry out high-quality content research, and develop ideas and narratives to deliver the core elements of the Science Museum’s Climate Change Project, include an innovative immersive gallery, website, and ongoing programme of events. 3. DIMENSIONS •

To be part of a team that produces content for the Science Museum’s Climate Change Project, including major new gallery, website and ongoing programme of events and exhibitions.

5. WORK EXPERIENCE, SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE & BEHAVIOURS

5. (A) WORK EXPERIENCE: •

Practical experience of working within the field of climate change and involvement with communicating this work



Experience of delivering audience-focused, high quality, issue-based communication projects or exhibitions



A proven interest or record in communicating contemporary science and technology, through print, multimedia, exhibitions or live events

5. (B) SKILLS & KNOWLEDGE:



A good relevant degree in a subject related to climate change science, engineering or policy, or other equivalent experience



A demonstrable knowledge of climate change, in particular strategies for mitigation and adaptation



Ability to carry out high-quality research in contemporary science



Ability to prioritise scientific content and streamline research into succinct messages for specific audiences



An understanding of museum-based exhibits and museum visitors



Ability to work effectively with subject specialists and external organisations



Ability to handle large quantities of complicated information



An understanding of dialogue and issues-based products



An ability to work within a dynamic environment

6. KEY RESULT AREAS •

Research high quality content about climate change science, mitigation and adaptation.



Work with the Museum’s climate change content team to ensure scientific accuracy relating to climate change science, mitigation and adaptation.



Write content proposals, scenarios and pathflows for exhibits, events and interactive media products to ensure agreed messages are successfully conveyed. Work with new media, design and web colleagues to develop these products at various stages from concept to delivery.



Develop relationships with scientists and stakeholders, ensuring good communication that supports research and builds the profile of the Museum as the UK’s leading destination for public engagement with climate change.



Develop audience-focused messages and learning outcomes to be implemented in the Museum’s Climate Change Project.

Day-to-day contacts •

Content developers – you will work in a team of 3-5 content developers with responsibility for delivering different products on different subjects. This team reports to the Content Strategy and Development Manager.



External experts – you will contact experts by phone, email and in meetings to research and accuracy check content for products. This will include preparing briefings for a pre-established advisory panel.



New media and web team – you will work with colleagues with new media expertise to deliver innovative multimedia and web products.



Learning colleagues – you will liaise with the Museum’s learning team to ensure that content is audience focused and relevant to National Curricula.



Design team – you will prepare materials to brief designers to ensure that all products are accurate and deliver agreed messages.



Publications colleagues – you will brief and work with editors and script writers to ensure that all gallery and web text is of a high quality.



Commercial and Licensing Colleagues – you may work with teams developing the Museum’s commercial offerings to advise on relevant products, books and initiatives throughout the Museum to be launched alongside the project



Workshops colleagues, external contractors – you may work with internal and external colleagues responsible for the production of the Climate Change gallery.

8. SCOPE FOR IMPACT • Develop accurate and visitor-focused content and deliver it in a project that aims to change how visitors think, talk and act about climate change • Work with design and new media colleagues to deliver climate change content throughout the science museum in the form of innovative products including a gallery, website and programme of events • Work with external experts and stakeholders to raise the profile of the science museum as the UK’s destination for public engagement with climate change 9.
