Ensured the safe, orderly and expeditious flow of multi-national air traffic in an FAA level 3 RAPCON at one of the Air Forces top 3 busiest training bases with over 280,000 aircraft annual operations. Issued clearances and control instructions, and coordinated with three internal sectors, two Federal Aviation Administration Air Route Traffic Control Centers, two approach controls, and two control towers. Operated the Enroute Automated Radar Tracking System, Automated Weather Distribution, Enhanced Target Generator, and Flight DataII.
Air Traffic Control Tower Instructor – Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi August 2001 to June 2005 *
Supervised a 4 person team to instruct new trainees on basic air traffic control utilizing the Air Force’s new Tower Simulation System (TSS). Taught basic rules of ATC then showed the students how to apply the information to simulated targets on the TSS. Developed and administered daily/weekly tests and evaluated practical application at end of course. Utilized static board, smart board, and TSS to ensure comprehension.
Air Traffic Control RAPCON Controller/Trainer – Keesler Air Force Base, Mississippi March 1988 to October 1991 *
Provided necessary instructions to pilots flying within Keesler AFB airspace to ensure safe, orderly and expeditious flow of aircraft arrivals and departures. Coordinated with Gulfport RAPCON/Tower, Houston Center and the Coast Search and Rescue Operations Center. Operated radios, light guns, recorders, weather reporting equipment and NAVAID remote status indicators during each shift. Conducted training in FAA Level 1 Tower.
