INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY What to do this week… 1. Firstly, if you have not completed any of the S.A.T.s you MUST do so BEFORE FRIDAY this is the absolute last date – nothing after this date will be accepted. If you fail to complete all SATs, you will not pass I.T., and your year will be wasted! 2. If you have been a good student and done all the work, then you should study for the exam, which is next week: TUESDAY 20th NOVEMBER – 10:30am to 12:30pm What you should study… NETWORKS Review your SAT paper • Networks: LANs, WANs, client/server, peer-to-peer • Transmission media (UTP, coaxial, fibre optic, wireless) • Network Topologies (Bus, Star, Ring) • Different hardware (like Routers, Hubs, Bridges, NIC) & software (like NOS) used in a network • Protocols (eg FTP, TCP/IP) • Network Security (eg. Encryption, use of passwords, firewalls) • Being able to design a network (or label a diagram) SOLVING AN INFORMATION PROBLEM • What is data? • What is information? • What are the 9 steps of Information Processing (and what do they mean) • What are the 7 steps of problem solving (and what is involved for Analyse, Design, Develop, Test) • What are formats? (give examples) • What are conventions? (give examples) • Be able to draw a GANTT chart • Be able to draw a PERT chart • Be able to draw a layout diagram • Be familiar with the basic features of PowerPoint
