Armed Forces Hospital, Saudi Arabia (June. 1997 – to present) Part of the Information Services Management infrastructure consisting of 20 IT staff. Deputizing for the Head of IT in his absence: managing over 1000 PCs (W2k, XP), 500 networked hardware devices (printers, interface devices, etc.), 40 switches, 35 network cabinets, 4000 networked points, 4 WANs (dialup and wireless), 40 servers (AIX, Oracle, NT, W2000, W2003, NetApps), 25TB of data storage, 250+Km of copper and fibre optic cables and over 1400 end users. Wrote and Project Managed two tender processes, with values of £1 million and £0.75 million respectively, for our IT department’s hardware upgrade and maintenance needs. Carrying out Unix and AIX Administration. Managing a Tivoli Tape library and backup system. Established and managed the IT Help Desk for the Hospital and its 3 off-site clinics Daily operations of the IT dept including 8 System Support Engineers from a support point of view. Extending Network Highways as required, pulling Fibre or UTP, terminating and testing UTP (CAT5, CAT5e, CAT6) and connecting these to appropriate Network active components. Fixing PC and Network problems, both hardware and software. Migrated desktop environments from, 95 to 98, 98 to NT, NT to 2000 and 2000 to XP Professional. Established email engines such as Exchange and Mdaemon. Designed and produced several Access database applications, such as an IT help desk, maintenance support desk, personal/finance leave, ticket and sick monitoring, clinic statistics, and conference registration. Designing and managing the IT Server Room. Operational and Quality Management Achievements: As part of the Hospital’s Conference Organizing Committee ran the IT infrastructure, registration administration, and certificate production during conferences. Assisted in the implementation of the 34 module Oracle-based Hospital Information System. Contributed to strategy formulation and forward planning as a member of the management team. Liaised with third party service providers and ensured correct solutions are delivered within budgets. Researched and reviewed existing budgets and presented more cost effective plans for infrastructure and support expenditure. Implemented newer networking technologies whilst respecting budgets that increased staff productivity. Trained staff. Migrated 10Base-T coax networks to a Cabletron infrastructure then 3Com and finally to a Cisco 1000Base-T infrastructure. Established and monitored several IT maintenance contracts.
