DIY steps to preparing a Cat5e wall plate... 1. Choose where you want each plate. 2. Check where the studs in the wall are located using a DSF3 stud finder. 3. Locate the wall plates in between studs and away from power cable. 4. Prepare holes in the wall using a 22097 jib knife to cut into plaster wall. 5. Place a 712MC mounting plate around the holes. 6. Choose single Cat5e or twin Cat5e depending on the selected wall plate. 7. Twin Cat5e is recommended over 2 single Cat5e cables as it has an 1.) easier pull through 2.) different colour inner cables for easy identification 3.) Both strands will be the same length. 8. Pull Cat5e cable through one hole to the next using a YT01 yellow tongue to guide it. 9. Strip open the Cat5e jacket using the PDTC5E Cat5e stripper 10mm from the end to reveal 4 twisted pairs and pull string.

10. Pull string down say 100mm to open jacket of cat5e. 11. Cut 20mm off the end of the twisted pairs. The integrity of the initial 20mm of twisted pairs may have been jeopardised when the cable jacket was stripped. Removing the first 20mm should avoid this issue. 12. Separate twisted pairs and place them tightly over the corresponding terminal on the back of the wall plate i.e. the brown wire goes over the terminal marked Br. 13. Use the Cat5e punch down tool* to secure and cut individual wires. The proper punch down tool is made up of the PDT110 punch down tool and the corresponding Krone Cat5e blade. 14. The side of the blade marked ‘CUT’ should be facing away from the cable. When it punches down, you’ll hear a noise. The blade will secure the wire and cut off the excess wire. 15. Repeat the process for the other wall plate. 16. Secure the Cat5e wall plates to the 712MC mounting plate that is surrounding the hole in the wall.
