Philips have ceased production of consumer TV products for the Australian market!
In our September newsletter we announced the grand release of the new Philips Consumer TV range. 2 months later we have some devastating news – the consumer range is leaving our shores !!! Philips announced that as a part of a global strategy to increase profitability in the consumer TV market, they would cease production for the Australian market! This year alone, we saw Fujitsu and Hitachi leave the aussie market, not to mention Pioneer ceasing global production and other brands rationalising their offerings to the Aussie market. What do we think this means – the TV party’s coming to an end! For the last 2 years, we have been telling resellers, trade and end users ‘you will never have this so good’. Manufacturers are not making money in Australia and resellers are making around 10% less profit on TVs when compared to equivalent countries. This has pushed wholesalers and retailers to demand higher rebates and effectively pushed quality brands out of our country. Philips have informed us that they only have limited stock of their 47” LCD and the rest of their stock have already sold out as of 30/09/08.

Why price protection for resellers isn’t always good!
Sometimes it pays to do the opposite to everyone else, so when price protection became the norm in the electronics industry, we went in the opposite direction. We told our suppliers that we wouldn’t require price protection. Half a decade on and the leading brand names struggle to clear their lines through retail chains because it costs too much to drop their price!
How does that work?
Say Brand A is selling a plasma TV for $3,000. If they drop the price to $2,500 for an end of line special, you would expect that they would move more stock… but it will cost to the supplier. The retail chain stores will also ask for $500 for every unit remaining on the showroom floor at that time [price protection], making the exercise very expensive for the supplier. In some cases, Brand A would be better off giving away their product!
So what are their options?
Some smaller importers would get around this by changing model number despite the units being the same. A respected brand will not often do this as it’s not correct and because models are often the same globally. The supplier needs to find a clearance house that we take a volume of product and sell it discreetly. There’s nothing discreet about retail or online. The solution has been to supply Radio Parts and we then in turn advertise the product through our trade only newsletter or contact companies directly through our rep network.

Linksys Business Series Surveillance Cameras : At Radio Parts we are committed to bringing you both high quality & value packed products. That is why we have spent a great deal of time sourcing a quality IP camera product range. With the continued integration of PC networks with security monitoring systems there is a high demand for networkable / “IP” security cameras however many companies have blurred the distinction between cheaper “web cams” and business solutions. As a supplier of business solutions we have held off committing to lower quality IP security products as often the installation flexibility was low and the video quality was poor, with little support for those of us who are not computer network gurus. It was clear that there is a demand for a quality product that is fully customizable allowing business owners the flexibility to monitor and protect their companies with a professional security product. The Linksys products fulfil this role perfectly. Each camera uses removable CS-mount lenses and can be customized with optional Zoom, Wide-Angle, Varifocal, Auto-Iris, or other type of lenses as required for a specific application or setting. Both models support Power over Ethernet (PoE) protocols which enables versatile installations anywhere you can run CAT5 cable. The cameras deliver great quality video with improved low-light sensitivity. Linksys cameras support advanced audio capabilities including 2-way Audio, embedded Microphone, external speaker and microphone ports, and voice compression. Support for multiple network protocols and user friendly installation make this solution ideal for multiple IP Surveillance applications. The 2300-series cameras can also be managed securely using HTTPS. Philips have ceased production of consumer TV products for the Australian market!
In our September newsletter we announced the grand release of the new Philips Consumer TV range. 2 months later we have some devastating news – the consumer range is leaving our shores !!! Philips announced that as a part of a global strategy to increase profitability in the consumer TV market, they would cease production for the Australian market! This year alone, we saw Fujitsu and Hitachi leave the aussie market, not to mention Pioneer ceasing global production and other brands rationalising their offerings to the Aussie market. What do we think this means – the TV party’s coming to an end! For the last 2 years, we have been telling resellers, trade and end users ‘you will never have this so good’. Manufacturers are not making money in Australia and resellers are making around 10% less profit on TVs when compared to equivalent countries. This has pushed wholesalers and retailers to demand higher rebates and effectively pushed quality brands out of our country. Philips have informed us that they only have limited stock of their 47” LCD and the rest of their stock have already sold out as of 30/09/08.

Why price protection for resellers isn’t always good!
Sometimes it pays to do the opposite to everyone else, so when price protection became the norm in the electronics industry, we went in the opposite direction. We told our suppliers that we wouldn’t require price protection. Half a decade on and the leading brand names struggle to clear their lines through retail chains because it costs too much to drop their price!
How does that work?
Say Brand A is selling a plasma TV for $3,000. If they drop the price to $2,500 for an end of line special, you would expect that they would move more stock… but it will cost to the supplier. The retail chain stores will also ask for $500 for every unit remaining on the showroom floor at that time [price protection], making the exercise very expensive for the supplier. In some cases, Brand A would be better off giving away their product!
So what are their options?
Some smaller importers would get around this by changing model number despite the units being the same. A respected brand will not often do this as it’s not correct and because models are often the same globally. The supplier needs to find a clearance house that we take a volume of product and sell it discreetly. There’s nothing discreet about retail or online. The solution has been to supply Radio Parts and we then in turn advertise the product through our trade only newsletter or contact companies directly through our rep network.

Linksys Business Series Surveillance Cameras : At Radio Parts we are committed to bringing you both high quality & value packed products. That is why we have spent a great deal of time sourcing a quality IP camera product range. With the continued integration of PC networks with security monitoring systems there is a high demand for networkable / “IP” security cameras however many companies have blurred the distinction between cheaper “web cams” and business solutions. As a supplier of business solutions we have held off committing to lower quality IP security products as often the installation flexibility was low and the video quality was poor, with little support for those of us who are not computer network gurus. It was clear that there is a demand for a quality product that is fully customizable allowing business owners the flexibility to monitor and protect their companies with a professional security product. The Linksys products fulfil this role perfectly. Each camera uses removable CS-mount lenses and can be customized with optional Zoom, Wide-Angle, Varifocal, Auto-Iris, or other type of lenses as required for a specific application or setting. Both models support Power over Ethernet (PoE) protocols which enables versatile installations anywhere you can run CAT5 cable. The cameras deliver great quality video with improved low-light sensitivity. Linksys cameras support advanced audio capabilities including 2-way Audio, embedded Microphone, external speaker and microphone ports, and voice compression. Support for multiple network protocols and user friendly installation make this solution ideal for multiple IP Surveillance applications. The 2300-series cameras can also be managed securely using HTTPS. With extensive feature support like IP Multicast, RTSP, RTP, and 3GPP, video can be viewed from multiple endpoints and client applications including 3G phones, and Quicktime clients on PCs or WiFi phones. Advanced features like two input and two output ports which can be used for connecting the camera to an alarm panel, siren, Passive InfraRed (PIR) sensors, smoke detectors, lighting switch (on/off), door sensors, etc, and support for the Pelco_D protocol for remote controlled rotation through an RS-485 interface allow for flexible installations. The Wireless capabilities of the WVC2300 provide better range than traditional 802.11g, and strong wireless security utilizing WPA which means that you can trust that your information is secure.
