NEW MODEL PHILIPS LCDS There have been a few whispers about the new model Philips LCDs for some time now. September is the month the new models finally arrive !!!
Philips run a 3 tier approach in LCDs, much like what Panasonic does with the plasmas. The 5 Series represents the entry point, 7 Series being mid level and the 9 Series being the ultimate. Panasonic separate their 3 tier approach in part, by country of manufacture. A basic Panasonic is made in China (8A), mid level in Singapore (80A) and the high-end model in Japan (800A). With Philips it’s not about where the panels is manufactured - all the models are made in Europe and all of them have a 3 year warranty – but instead, about raw performance. The higher-end models have more processing power, colours, contrast ratio, 100hz and faster refresh rates. After attending the CEDIA exhibition and seeing the Philips alongside the big name LCD competitors, the Philips is extraordinary. Interestingly, when you account for the low power consumption and the long warranty, I believe their panels could well represent the best value in the market at the moment. All the guys here seem to give the panel is big thumbs up.
DOMESTIC
Philips have 3 markets for their TVs: Domestic, Commercial and Hospitality. We will be involved in all 3, so I want to discuss the domestic panels first.
Minimal Servicing Requirements Philips has a reputation of reliability, but their service proposition is pretty amazing - Reliability is built upon a host of tests like the Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT), stress, surge and ESD testing - They have a 24/7 product support team to help out at any hour - The commercial warranty is a 2 year advanced exchange warranty - Training is offered for say hotel staff. - The is a Philips Certified Professional Installer Network We can be confident that we’re offering a low cost, high service product to the commercial sector. Healthcare is one of the 3 core areas of the Philips business, meaning big investment in their hospitality panels. Their panels have a bunch of features which have some real business applications. Consider the ‘IPTV’ panels, which as well as TV, offer online services like email, video-on-demand and other internet services. Imagine you managed a hotel – your Philips panels can be enabled to provide: ■■In-house information i.e. the gym is open from 6:00 until 21:00, conference rooms are located on level 1, checkout time is 11:00 ■■Interactive online services like ‘room service online’ ■■There are also system-ready aspects like turning multiple sets on or off all at once or for TV configurations to be copied and pasted from one panel to another, saving labour time. ■■Even the remotes are pretty special, with individual buttons for say radio, information or alarm settings, low battery detection and anti-theft locks on the battery housing !!!

I wouldn’t expect you to believe me, so I posted the excel spreadsheet on the Radio Parts web page (www.radioparts.com.au) relating to the Philips commercial panels. I would encourage that you also run through the process. My finding were that Philips represented the best value.

NEW MODEL PHILIPS LCDS There have been a few whispers about the new model Philips LCDs for some time now. September is the month the new models finally arrive !!!
Philips run a 3 tier approach in LCDs, much like what Panasonic does with the plasmas. The 5 Series represents the entry point, 7 Series being mid level and the 9 Series being the ultimate. Panasonic separate their 3 tier approach in part, by country of manufacture. A basic Panasonic is made in China (8A), mid level in Singapore (80A) and the high-end model in Japan (800A). With Philips it’s not about where the panels is manufactured - all the models are made in Europe and all of them have a 3 year warranty – but instead, about raw performance. The higher-end models have more processing power, colours, contrast ratio, 100hz and faster refresh rates. After attending the CEDIA exhibition and seeing the Philips alongside the big name LCD competitors, the Philips is extraordinary. Interestingly, when you account for the low power consumption and the long warranty, I believe their panels could well represent the best value in the market at the moment. All the guys here seem to give the panel is big thumbs up.
DOMESTIC
Philips have 3 markets for their TVs: Domestic, Commercial and Hospitality. We will be involved in all 3, so I want to discuss the domestic panels first.
Minimal Servicing Requirements Philips has a reputation of reliability, but their service proposition is pretty amazing - Reliability is built upon a host of tests like the Highly Accelerated Life Test (HALT), stress, surge and ESD testing - They have a 24/7 product support team to help out at any hour - The commercial warranty is a 2 year advanced exchange warranty - Training is offered for say hotel staff. - The is a Philips Certified Professional Installer Network We can be confident that we’re offering a low cost, high service product to the commercial sector. Consider the ‘IPTV’ panels, which as well as TV, offer online services like email, video-on-demand and other internet services. Imagine you managed a hotel – your Philips panels can be enabled to provide: ■■In-house information i.e. the gym is open from 6:00 until 21:00, conference rooms are located on level 1, checkout time is 11:00 ■■Interactive online services like ‘room service online’ ■■There are also system-ready aspects like turning multiple sets on or off all at once or for TV configurations to be copied and pasted from one panel to another, saving labour time. ■■Even the remotes are pretty special, with individual buttons for say radio, information or alarm settings, low battery detection and anti-theft locks on the battery housing !!!
