PIPER JAFFRAY: WOMEN IN INVESTMENT BANKING PRE-INTERNSHIP OPPORTUNITY If you’re currently a female undergraduate sophomore or junior and are interested in learning about a career as an investment banking analyst, this program is for you! Piper Jaffray is offering a unique, twoweek pre-internship opportunity to a select group of top-performing female undergraduate sophomores and juniors. It is designed to identify outstanding candidates for our summer internship program and help further the firm’s diversity initiatives. The pre-internship will run from Monday, Jan. 4 − Friday, Jan.15, 2010. A small stipend will be paid to program participants. Participating juniors will be eligible for our paid summer 2010 internship program and participating sophomores will be eligible for our paid summer 2011 internship program. The Global Fellows Internship Program encourages exploration of international work experience. This is a competitive internship program that provides selected students with international internship experience in Asia. The program is open to U.S. citizens of all majors and provides stipends for USC undergraduates (freshmen, sophomores, juniors and seniors graduating in December) to live and work in Asia for eight weeks during the summer.

T. Howard Foundation – Internship Program (Summer) The T. Howard Foundation is a 501(c) (3) non-profit, charitable organization dedicated to increasing diversity in the multimedia and entertainment industry. Focusing on women and multi-ethnic groups, the foundation carries out its mission through a comprehensive program for college students that consists of: an internship program that gives students industry knowledge and experience; professional development, that prepares students for their internship and the corporate environment; career awareness that recruits students by making them aware of career opportunities in the industry; and industry awareness that identifies and recruits multimedia organizations that will host interns. Students who become T. Howard interns are placed at major media companies that partner with the Foundation in support of our mission. A few of those partners include Comcast, DIRECTV, Discovery, ESPN, FOX, HBO, Intelsat, Lifetime, MTV, NBC Universal, Rainbow Media, Showtime, Time Warner Cable, and Turner Network Sales. Los Angeles Universal Preschool – Advancement & Public Affairs Intern ($750-1,000/month) Los Angeles Universal Preschool (LAUP) is a dynamic public benefit corporation created in 2004 and funded by First 5 LA - the commission established by Proposition 10. LAUP’s goal is to make voluntary, high-quality preschool available to every four-year-old child in Los Angeles County, regardless of their family’s income, by 2014. The LAUP offices are centrally located in downtown Los Angeles. LAUP's Fund Development department develops understanding and support among the various constituencies of LAUP in order to secure the resources (partnerships, collaborations, grants, and contributions) required to fulfill LAUP’s mission and vision. LAUP’s Public Affairs Department also develops support for the LAUP mission with policy makers, community leaders, and other stakeholders. Through a variety of strategies, we aim to raise the profile of early childhood education and LAUP's role in creating opportunities for families to enroll their children in high-quality preschool programs. Intern will perform data entry in Raiser's Edge fundraising database. Assist Vice President with scheduling and maintaining calendar. Process invoices. Take meeting minutes. Conduct Research on legislative issues. Help craft communications on state and federal legislation. Assist with the implementation of stakeholder events. Compile data for distribution to key stakeholders. Other duties and responsibilities as assigned. Minimum two (2) years of college required. BA/BS degree preferred. Educational background and/or work experience in education, child development, family studies, public policy, social work, or a related field a plus. Interns will earn a stipend of $750-$1000/month (varies based on experience and education level). LAUP will
reimburse interns for parking costs OR up to $60/month for public transportation costs. This position requires a commitment of up 19 hours per week for at least three months. Best Shot Foundation – Pnock Out Pneumonia Dodgeball Tournament Intern ($1,000 stipend) The Best Shot Foundation was founded in 2009 to fight pneumonia, the leading cause of death of children under five. Every year, pneumonia kills two million children, more than HIV, malaria, and measles combined. The Best Shot Foundation is organizing a national dodgeball tournament to raise funds and increase awareness, in coordination with World Pneumonia Day on November 2. The ‘Pnock out Pneumonia’ Games will involve dozens of campuses, hundreds of teams, and thousands of players. Would you like to save the lives of children in developing countries? Do you want valuable, real-world experience in managing an event from start to finish? We are seeking a motivated, enthusiastic university student (graduate or undergraduate), to help manage the Pnock Out Pneumonia dodgeball tournament in markets across the country. Regional Tournament Coordinators will receive hands-on experience in helping to plan a landmark event that is part of a national movement to end childhood pneumonia. His/her primary role will be to organize a local dodgeball tournament and support participating teams as they raise funds for the fight against childhood pneumonia. Successful candidates will be highly motivated, enthusiastic, and reliable, with a passion for humanitarian causes. The Regional Tournament Coordinator position will provide valuable, real-world experience for those planning to enter the not-for-profit, marketing or event-planning field after graduation. Successful applicants will be those with a commitment to humanitarian causes. Excellent oral and written communication skills. The ability to work unsupervised and be a self-starter. NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program ($6,000+ stipend) NASA Undergraduate Student Research Program Internship provides students with the opportunity to receive hands-on experience and prepare students for the work force. Students will work with a mentor in a specific field of study on a project related to NASA’s mission. This is a great way for students to further obtain their academic and career goals. The internship is offered Summer, Spring and Fall semesters. Summer session lasts for 10 weeks and interns receive a stipend of $6,000. Spring and Fall sessions last for 15 weeks and students receive a $9,000 stipend. To qualify students: must be enrolled at an accredited university and majoring in either science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. Must have a 3.0 GPA. FELLOWSHIPS Drum Major Institute Scholars The Drum Major Institute for Public Policy (DMI) is a think tank staffed by young progressives who want to drive public policy, not just lament its failures. We created DMI Scholars to build a farm team of young leaders brining their activism to public policy careers in government, think tanks, campaigns and
advocacy. Our Summer Institute for DMI Scholars will be in New York City, August 1-15, 2010. There, you will learn to approach problems through a policy lens and meet people on the front lines fighting for fair and just public policy. 2010 International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program The Ralph J. Bunche International Affairs Center of Howard University, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State, invites college sophomores, juniors and seniors to apply for the International Affairs Summer Enrichment Program at Howard University. This program is designed to help students, particularly African-American and other minority group students, increase their understanding of international affairs issues and learn about and prepare for career opportunities in international affairs. This will be a six-week program, for which up to 9 credit hours (three courses) of academic credit in international studies may be awarded. The program emphasizes skills, strategies, and knowledge students will need to master for success in the area of international affairs and in the competitive Foreign Service examination process. To give participants greater insight into the policymaking process and international affairs careers, the program includes visits to the State Department, other U.S. government agencies, and Capitol Hill, as well as meetings with representatives of non-governmental groups. The Rangel Program will cover tuition, travel, room, and board for students accepted into the program. Participants also receive a stipend. Students must be American citizens, be full-time undergraduate students who have completed their sophomore year in college before the program begins, and have at least a 3.2 grade point average. The selection committee may consider students who have completed their freshman year if they have significant international experience. Application deadline February 12, 2010. Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowship Program Howard University, in cooperation with the U.S. Department of State, invites outstanding individuals interested in international affairs and careers in the U.S. Foreign Service to apply for the 2010 Charles B. Rangel International Affairs Graduate Fellowships. Graduating seniors and recent college graduates with strong academic records and an interest in international affairs are encouraged to apply. The Rangel Program encourages the application of members of minority groups historically underrepresented in the Foreign Service and those with financial need. Those selected will receive support for graduate school and enter into one of the most exciting and rewarding careers available. We expect to provide 20 fellowships in 2010. Program Benefits: • An orientation to the Program and the Foreign Service at Howard University in Washington, D.C. • Two paid summer internships, one on Capitol Hill the summer after selection and one overseas in a U.S. embassy during the summer between the first and second years of graduate school. • Up to $34,000 annually toward tuition, fees and living expenses for a two-year master’s degree in international affairs, public administration or other relevant area to the work of the Foreign Service. • Mentoring from a Foreign Service Officer throughout the duration of the fellowship • Employment in the State Department Foreign Service for those who successfully complete the program and Foreign Service entry requirements, with a contractual agreement committing each Rangel Fellow to a minimum of three years of service as a Foreign Service Officer Must be US citizen. Must be seeking admission to enter a graduate school in the fall of 2010 for a twoyear program. Must have cumulative grade point average of 3.2 or higher on a 4.0 scale at the time of application.
