SUPPORT SERVICES • An activity required for successful execution of a product or program or process is known as Support service. • The support services are managed by a separate department. It is extremely important for any organization to have good support services to succeed in their business. • Support services are important for the immediate relief of the clients. • Support services are not just limited to phone calls nowadays email, chat, web forms, and social communications, as well as self-service support sites.
OBJECTIVES OF SUPPORTIVE SERVICES FOR INCLUSION • The help your child receives for personal needs they have; • Various “accommodations” children with disabilities may need to participate in regular school and classroom activities; • The overall support from the school including the leadership and commitment necessary to include all children; • Different ways of thinking about what and how children are taught so that all children can participate in regular classrooms and school activities.

LESSON PLANNING • Special education teacher and regular education teacher engage in co-planning • They work together to design lesson plans to fit the needs of all students, with the special education teacher focusing on the needs of the special needs students. • Develop review materials or plan one-on-one instruction with special needs students before or after the class.
CLASSROOM MANAGEMENT • Recognizes individual differences and implement learning strategies for all.

OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES • Give progress reports and updates to parents. • Academically feedback • To assess individualized education programs • Consultant or counseling • Arrange meetings to discuss these plans with parents, administrators, counselors and other individuals involved in the education of a child with special needs.
GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER • The main roles of the regular classroom teacher are to plan, coordinate, schedule, and evaluate curriculum and instructional outcomes within a secure and positive classroom environment for all learners, including those with disabilities.
THE GENERAL EDUCATION TEACHER SHOULD: • Develop and implement weekly lesson plans that facilitate the participation and learning of all learners • Monitor and evaluate progress of all students • Maintain communication with learners, parents or guardians • Meet with special education teacher on a regular basis and provide information necessary for modifications and adaptations to be developed and implemented
• Work collaboratively with special education teacher to assist in development of a support plan that meets the needs of all learners in the classroom, assist in the development of the Para educator's schedule, and supervise the Para educator's completion of designated activities when in the general education classroom. • Keep the special education teacher informed as to the performance of learners with disabilities in your class on a regular basis. Further, provide a copy of midterm grades and assign report card grades collaboratively with the special education teacher.
• The general education teacher must first and upmost buy into the concept of inclusive programming and paraprofessional supports. General education teachers will need to make sure that they understand their role and expectations. • General education teachers must collaborate with the special education teacher as to the role and assignments of both the student with a disability and the paraprofessional (Boyer & Mainzer, 2003).
WHAT IS THE ROLE OF A SCHOOL COUNSELOR IN SPECIAL EDUCATION? • The role of a school counselor is to help all students, including those with special needs, to achieve their full potential.
THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE OTHER IMPORTANT SERVICES THAT SCHOOL COUNSELORS PROVIDE. • Counseling sessions with special education students. • Encouraging family involvement in the IEP. It helps immensely if the parents or other responsible adults understand and are on board with the services that have been recommended, including possible referrals to outside organizations. • The special education counselor can also address specific questions or concerns and inform parents and guardians of their rights.
• Consulting with and working with other school staff to better understand the child’s special needs and what support systems, adaptations and modifications may be necessary. • Collaborating with other school and community professionals, including but not limited to teachers, school psychologists, physical therapists, occupational therapists, and speech and language pathologists, in the delivery of services. • Identifying other students who should be assessed to determine eligibility for special education.

FAMILY • Family involvement is important throughout the lifecycle of children with disabilities, especially in the early years (UNICEF, 2012). • Involving parents and the community is an important principle of quality, inclusive education, both in and out of the classroom. • A positive connection between parents and schools influences children’s attitudes and achievements in education. • Families and civil-society organizations can also play an important role in the process of advancing a legal and policy framework for inclusive education. • • Children with disabilities are not the only ones that benefit: there are also advantages for parents, classmates, educators and schools.
• Parents increase interaction with their children, become more responsive and sensitive to their needs and more confident in their parenting skills. • Educators acquire a better understanding of families’ culture and diversity, feel more comfortable at work and improve their morale. • Schools, by involving parents and the community, tend to establish better reputations in the community.
