"Yes I know… I know…" Meiya said back to her father. She had heard the speech since she was 12. You would think he would have stopped patronizing her and just let her meander through. "Meiya I'm serious. I almost lost my job last time I let you in on a site." "I know! And I'm sorry. It wasn't my fault! The floor collapsed and I ended up destroying the body of a perfectly mummified king. I'm SORRY!" "Don’t remind me. Just go!" Meiya sighed as her father turned back around to the other 'real' archeologists. Sometimes she wished she didn't come on these trips with her father. But as much as she hated him bossing her around she loved the sites they discovered much more. Meiya had often wondered if her father let her come just because she was good at discovering things that we're never meant to be discovered. She had a knack for it. Ever since she was 3 when she found out her uncles hair was really a toupee she had been discovering certain secrets. Like her grade 10th teacher sleeping with the principal. Or her grade 12th teacher who drank before marking any paper. But none of her menial discoveries ever came close to the amazing ventures she had when she came on sites with her father. Meiya turned around in the large castle, trying to picture the decaying walls and stair cases when they were in their prime. Possibly 17 to 18 hundreds. Maybe 16 hundreds by the paintings on the walls… but that could be determined by the 'real' archeologists. Dust coated everything, leaving a trail with each foot step she took Meiya started down the staircase to the basement. She loved to work her way up from bottom to top. She found that usually the best things were always in the basement. As she walked she felt the hot air turn suddenly cooler. There was no light so she reached to her side and pulled the flash light free of its holder. The beam of light accentuated the dust floating through the air, making it look like snow falling through the darkness. Meiya stopped when the ceiling started to the new room. She pitched her flashlight across the vast empty room. And empty it was. No paintings, no scary carcasses, no dungeons, no old chains. Nothing! Meiya dropped her shoulders as her frown of disappointment took place. It didn't make any sense. Why have a huge castle with nothing in a basement? She took another step down the stone staircase, letting the beam of light travel more of the room. She stopped frozen when her light cast a shadow over something in the room. She stilled her flashlight on the object, her eyes focusing on it. It was a coffin. Meiya drew in a deep breath. She quickly walked down the rest of the stairwell. She paused for only a moment before quickly walking over the casket. It was made of solid stone, white stone. Warn carvings were scrapped into every inch of it. Meiya bent over, examining the work, looking for an opening. The lid was so uniquely placed that it looked like the stone didn't have a crevice or an opening but Meiya saw it. She set down
her flashlight ontop of the stone, then placed her hands on the edge of the lid, ready to push it back. Meiya paused. She should probably call her father. Meiya bit her lip, looking back up to the stair case. She breathed in quietly then pushed at the lid. At first it didn't even move an inch. She pushed harder, feeling the strain in her wrists and arms as she heaved. Suddenly with an ear deafening screech it moved. Meiya froze and looked back to the stair case, expecting to hear her father yell at her for touching something. But when silence echoed back she pushed again. This time the stone moved more freely. When the lid was moved just a foot she quickly grabbed her flashlight and aimed it in the tomb. Her breath stopped in her lungs. It was a man. But it wasn't a decomposed body of a man. It was a perfect man. His hair was long and grown out, deep rich and brown. His skin looked like stone, smooth and impossibly pale. His shoulders broad and powerful. Her eyes shot back up to his face as her eyes caught a glimpse of movement. Its impossible. She thought as her eyes studied his face for that glimmer of movement. She had to be mistaken, her eyes playing tricks on her. Suddenly his eyes shot open.
Meiya jumped and screamed. She dropped the flashlight. She heard the sickening sound of plastic breaking then darkness. Meiya had never known darkness like that before. But even in the darkness the image of his bright blue eyes was still very vivid in her mind. She heard him grown, then heard the scrap of stone against stone. "Oh God."
Meiya could hear her own heart thudding in her ears. She scrambled back on her hands and knees. "Who are you?" Meiya froze when she heard his silk voice. "I said who are you." He said again when she didn't answer. "M-…" Meiya tried to still her quivering voice. "Meiya." She said clearly. "What year is it?" Meiya frowned, her mind racing. "What year do you think it is?" "You're not the one to ask questions! Now answer me." His voice was harsh and Meiya scampered back even further. "2008." "2000!" "And 8." She said quietly. She heard him sigh. "Why have you woken me?" "Woken you?" Meiya breathed in heavily, then let it out shakily. "I didn't 'woken' anyone!
You're impossible! This place hasn't been touched for over 800 years! Maybe more… you should be a pile of bones! No one, least of all me, should be 'wakening' you!" Meiya heaved a nervous sigh as silence weighed in on them. "Who are you?" She asked with more power in her voice than she expected. But before he could answer a beam of light penetrated the darkness. "Meiya? You down here?" It was her father. She didn't answer right away. Her eyes caught his image in the light. His cloths were barely hanging on him, all of them decomposing. His jaw was strong and his eyes penetrating as he stared back at her. Meiya broke their stare and called back up to her father. "Yeah! I'll be right up!" "Anything of interest down there?" Her father questioned. Meiya looked to the man, his blue eyes staring back. "Nothing!" "Well come on up! We think we found something up stairs! Some kind of shrine!" He yelled down. "Okay! Sounds good! I'll be right there!" "You sure you're okay?" She saw her father take a couple steps down the stairwell. "Perfect! No need to worry! Be right there!" She yelled back up quickly to stop him. "Alright. You need a flash light?" Meiya bit her lip then quickly jumped up on her feet and walked to the bottom of the stair well. "Yea, my batteries just died." She held out her hands for him to toss her his flash light. He tossed it to her. Then turned and walked back up the stairs. Meiya slowly turned back to the man, keeping her flashlight to the ground so she could see him and he could see her. Meiya didn't know if her heart had ever beat that hard in her life. "So now what?" There was a loud crack. Then another. Meiya looked up just in time to see light start to sift through the crack in the ceiling. Another sudden crack and she saw with wide eyes as the roof started to crumble. She barely had time to gasp before she was suddenly upstairs in the man's arms. He swiftly let her down to her feet and turned slightly so she could see the cloud of dust rising up from the stair case leading down into the basement. Her wide eyes moved back to the man before her. Now in the light set up by the large overheads the team had brought in she could feel her heart race at just the sight of him. His cloths were rugged and disastrously failing to cover any part of his beautiful body. His hair was past shoulder length, but it still didn't take away from his beauty. "Meiya!?" her father shouted down into the pit of rubble, worry all too evident in his voice. "I'm here dad." She called over. Once seeing she was safe the worry in his face fell, only to be replaced by confusion.
"Who is this?" He motioned to the man beside her. "Oh! This is… uh… I… uh…" She looked to the man beside her then back to her father. "I'm Denton." The man stepped forward, an amazingly dashing smile spread across his face. Even though he looked like Moses personified in 2008 he still managed to pull off a dignified look. "And who is Denton, Meiya?" "I uh… umm… uh... well… he…" Meiya tripped over her words, trying to come up with something, anything to say. "I'm her…" He looked down at her as she looked up at him, trying to figure out a lie to say. "Boyfriend!" Meiya chirped. And as soon as she said it she regretted it. "Boyfriend?" Her father echoed. She looked to her father and plastered on a fake smile. "Yes." "Well you know the rules Meiya. No boyfriends on expeditions." "I know… but he just came! I didn't do anything. He followed us!" Her father's gaze traveled from her to the man beside her. "You're her boyfriend?" He asked quizzically. "Yes… she is very important to me." Her father's eye twitched then he turned back to his daughter. "Get him off the site." He growled then turned back to the others who were looking down into the basement. Meiya quickly turned, grabbed Denton's arm and swiftly walked outside. She breathed in heavily the fresh air. "What's a boyfriend?" Meiya froze and turned back toward him. "You don’t know…" She stopped her self. "Of course you don’t… you're 800 years old!" She said sarcastically. "Uh… a boyfriend is a companion… sort of…" She bit her lip then looked back to him. Men and women alike were wondering around working. "We need to find a place to talk…" She looked over and saw one of the jeeps for the exhibition. "Come on." She quickly walked over to the jeep and jumped in, waiting for him to do so as well. He frowned down at the car like it was some kind of animal to be scolded. "Hey! Get in!" She shifted over to pull the release latch for the door. He jumped back then slowly sat himself down into the seat of the jeep. She sighed a laugh then started up the engine. He jumped, one of his hands latched onto the door while the other held the seat. Meiya laughed as she looked behind her then turned out to the worn, bumpy path the expedition had made. "Calm down! Its called a car. Its for transport. Kindda like a horse I guess." Meiya said smiling. Her smile fell when he lifted his hand from the door, it was crush in the form of his hand.
"Except it doesn't bleed…. I never liked horses." Meiya just starred at the door, her jaw hung slack. "Meiya." Her eyes flashed to him. "Yes?" She croaked out. He just pointed a head. She turned her head to see they were traveling through the bush, weeds and bushes being run over. Meiya quickly wheeled back to the worn path, her mind still jumbled. "How did you do that?!" "Do what?" "THAT! To the door! There!" She point furiously while still trying to keep an eye on where she was going. "Its nothing." "Nothing! You call crushing steal with your bare hands nothing?!" He didn't answer her, his face staring blankly ahead. She gritted her jaw shut then turned onto a dirt road. After an hour of driving they made it to the little hotel on the out skirts of the small town. She stopped in the parking lot and just sat there a moment, trying to figure out what to do. She turned her head toward him, ready to yell when she saw the wonder in his eyes. He was looking up at the hotel, then back down and around to all the cars and telephone poles, then back to the hotel, then down the street. Then he looked back to her. "Everything's changed." As he stared back at her she saw a glimmer of fear in his eyes. And she couldn't help but feel sorry for him. Even if he could crush steal with his bare hands, he was still partly human. This had been his home once. Why was he in the coffin? Had he gone in there willingly? Or had some one put him there? Who was he? How old was he? What was his history? What was his story? Questions swirled around her head as she stared back at him. He broke their stare and looked around once again. "What are we doing here?" He asked. Meiya jumped up out of her seat. "This is where we're going to be staying for a while." He gracefully opened the crumpled door. "I don’t know how I'm going to explain that to my dad." "You're dad? Is he your father?" "Yes. Dad and father are the same thing." "Oh." He closed the door then turned with the straightest back Meiya had ever seen in her whole life. "You know you don’t have to be so proper." "Proper?" Meiya smirked then straightened her back and tried to walk like he did. Then she giggled and looked back at his reaction. His face was stone with one eye brow lifted in amusement. "Wow, don’t you ever laugh?" His face fell even more, becoming like living stone. "Wah… okay… maybe not." A couple walked out of the hotel, their eyes steadfast on Denton. Meiya was surprised they didn't point and gawk as well. "Ah… we need to find you some cloths." Meiya said as she quickly grabbed his arm and started to
swiftly walk to the entrance. Once inside she let go of his cold arm and then walked to the elevator, pushing the button several times. She turned around to see Denton's chest. He was standing right behind her. "Woah! Personal space!" Meiya said and jumped back. He frowned down at her, but before he could say anything the elevator doors opened. She grabbed his arm and quickly pulled him in. She pressed her floor number then turned back to him. He was standing perfectly straight, watching the four walls like they would collapse in on him at any moment. "This is an elevator, it takes you up and down a building." The door dinged as it opened on her floor. She walked out, then quickly turned as she realized Denton hadn't followed her, he was looking up at the numbers lit up. "Come on Denton!" She pulled him out then walked down the hall to 232, her and her fathers room. She swiped the key card and opened the door. Denton walked in slowly, surveying the room. She walked quickly over to her father's suit case and opened it. She pulled out a pair of jeans and a black button up shirt. "Here, put this on." She shoved the cloths into his arms. "We'll have to get you boxers and stuff later, for now this will have to do." She pushed him into the bathroom then closed the door. "We're going to have to get you a hair cut… and a shave. No offence, but your style isn't gonna blend in with this age. I think there's a barber shop down… toowwn…" Her words were slowed as she saw him step out of the bathroom. He was still buttoning up the shirt. Everything fit perfectly. "Wow… you look…" She blubbered out, knowing that her jaw must have fallen to the floor. "Ridiculas." He said holding his hands out away from his body looking down. "No! Not at all!" She said quickly, trying to compose herself. She quickly turned from him. "Uh yeah, so a hair cut!" She said trying to get her mind back on track. She grabbed her fathers credit card then turned back to him. His face was cold and stony. "What's wrong?" His look suddenly turned to a glower then back to stone. "I need to feed." "Feed? God what time are you from? 'feed'" She said mocking him. "Come on, we can get something to eat on the way. We should go before my dad gets back." She opened the door then stopped. She looked down to his bare feet. "You need shoes, huh?" She pulled her fathers runners out from under the bed. "I don’t know how well these will fit." She put them down in front of him and he shoved one foot in then the other. "Their a little tight." "Well we'll get you a pair after you get your hair cut. Come on." Meiya opened the door to the barber shop. "Hi, how much do you charge for a hair cut?" "Hair cut? Darling, you don’t need a hair cut!" The man behind the counter remarked. "You may need a little bit of conditioner, but you are simply stunning!" "Well thank you… but not me. Him." Meiya stepped out of the line of sight so the man could see Denton.
"AHH!" He skreetched and jumped back. "That’s a man?!" Meiya couldn't help but laugh at his reaction. "Please?" "I'm always up for a challenge! Marree! Cancel my 3 o-clock appointment! This is an emergency!" The woman named Marree came around the corner and screamed at the site of Denton. "My goodness!" "Yes, I know… just tragic… well no matter. Come young man, let me make you into a prince." Denton hesitated, looking back at Meiya, she smiled and nodded it was okay. Meiya settled down into one of the comfy chairs in the waiting room. She picked up a magazine and started going through it. Maybe an hour later the hair dresser came around the corner. "Well you brought me a monster and I have created a prince!" Denton walked around the corner. He truly was a prince. Strong, handsome, and he had an assurance around him now. A air of authority that called out to her and made her knees go week. A shiver ran down her spine as he walked toward her. His once proper walk and stance was suddenly empowering, and noble. The breath froze in her lungs as he stopped before her. Everything else faded away, the shop drifted into a cloud and it was only her and him. Then with 4 words it all disappeared and she was back in reality. "I need to feed." Meiya forced a smile then walked around Denton and walked to the counter. "Thank you so much! How much do I owe you?" "Twenty five." "That it? You sure?" "Yes, When a customer leaves happy that payment is much more rewarding than cash… but I have to pay the bills so 25." He smiled down at her and she handed him the credit card. He swiped it and she quickly did her best impression of her father's signature. "Alright lets get something to eat." She smiled back at the barber then walked out the door. She walked down the tiny strip mall the town had and found a pizza place. She walked in, the door dinging with a bell. "What kindda pizza do you like?" He looked down at her frowning. "Vegetarian? Meat lovers? Hawaiian?" "Meat." He said darkly. "Okay." Uh… can we have a medium meat lovers please." She said to the clerk. The girl smiled then walked into the back to prepare the pizza. Meiya watched the swinging doors fly back and forth. Her vision started to blur and she felt her heart suddenly start to race. She felt some ones arms wrap around her body. Her head tilted back in the unexpected ecstasy. She moaned softly as a kiss feathered down on her neck. Then like waking from a nightmare she was suddenly jolted back. She snapped her head
to look at Denton. His eyes were no longer the bright blue, now they were black, even the whites of his eyes were black. "Holy fuck!" He lowered his head instantly closing his eyes. When he opened them again they were blue, but they still weren't that vibrant color, they were faded, like the sky after a rain storm. "Denton what the hell is going on?" He clamped his jaw shut then turned and walked out of the pizza place. Meiya followed him, but by the time the door had slammed shut he was gone. Disappeared. "Denton? Denton!" There was no one on the street.
Meiya sat at table, letting her mind think. She had a napkin with thoughts scribbled all over it. She knew he was cold. She knew he was impossibly strong and old. She knew he was incredibly good looking. And could disappear at whim. Oh and his name was Denton. Meiya bit her lip trying to think. He could be supper man… or a relative of him. But then there was that last experience. She had never felt anything like that in her whole life, it felt like her whole body was on fire, yet bubbling with want and need. What scared her most was that she liked it and she wanted more. She picked a pepperoni off of her piece of pizza. She popped it into her mouth, chewing slowly. "I swear when he comes back I'm gonn-" She cut herself off as her mind clicked. What if he's not coming back. Meiya looked up and out the window, looking across the street into the park. She sighed then looked back down to her scribbled on napkin. She swallowed her pepperoni then started to bite her nail. "You know that's not good for you." Meiya snapped her head up to see him. She almost didn't recognize him. His skin was glowing, his hair was really shiny ands even his whole body seemed more alive. "What happened to you?" She asked, trying to glare up at him. "Where did you do?" He sighed and sat down in the empty seat opposite her. "If I'm going to stay with you, you need to know something." "What?" She popped another pepperoni slice into her mouth. "I'm a vampire." She stopped chewing. Then slowly let her jaw continue. "Vampire." She echoed, twirling the idea around in her head. Vampires were cold, strong, old, incredibly good looking, and had numerous unknown powers. She forced herself to swallow. "How old are you?"
"Twenty." "No… how old are you?" He sighed. "Around 900 years old." "900!" She looked from him down to the table. This had to be a joke… or a dream, it just wasn't possible. "Meiya… There are many things about me that you can't know… at least not yet. I thought the world would never change. I thought it would stay dark… you showed me how different everything is. How different everyone is… I want you to show me everything. I want to know everything." "Everything." Meiya swallowed hard. "Meiya please…" "When you said feed… before… you meant it, didn't you?" "Yes… I need blood to live in this state." "In this state?" "If I were to fall into sleep again I wouldn't need blood for another thousand years, but because I'm am using energy I need more blood." "You kill humans?" Her question was barely a whisper, her voice was shaking so much Meiya was surprised she got that much out. "Yes." Meiya went ridged with his answer then quickly pushed her chair away from the table. "But I wouldn't harm you." He quickly added. "Well that makes me feel much better!" She said sarcastically.
"Meiya!" "NO! Don’t." She turned from him and walked out the door. Denton sighed then got up from his chair and casually followed her out. "Meiya!" He called after her. She ran around the corner of the strip mall, running for the jeep. She crashed into someone, and they quickly grabbed her. She looked up to the mans face surprised. He grinned down at her, smirking. "Well lookie here!" He said snidely. Two other men on either side of him smirked with him. "What is some one so young and beautiful doing all alone?" "Get off me!" Meiya screamed as one of his hands traveled from holding her to try and feel her up. "She's not alone!" Meiya didn't know if she was overjoyed or terrified to hear his voice. "Well she is now. Beat it!" One man spoke up, grabbing Meiya's hair and pulled it back making her scream. It happened so fast. All three men were on the ground screaming out in pain and Denton's arm was around her lower back, leading her to the jeep. She looked over her shoulder as she watched the men scramble to their knees. She looked up at Denton, expecting to see a monster but all she saw was smoldering anger. Anger for her or the men, she didn't know. "Denton…" They passed the jeep and Meiya looked back at it, then up to him. "We just passed the jeep." "We're not taking the jeep." "What?" "I want to show you something." He said then swiftly twisted and picked her up in his arms. "Woah!" She screeched as his arms drew tighter around her. "What are you doing!?" He quickly crossed the empty street to the forest. He glanced over to her a twinkle of mischief in his eyes. "Denton?" He didn't answer her as he suddenly took off. She had never felt anything like it. It was like a mix of a roller coaster and skydiving. "HOLY!"
Trees rushed passed her eyes like they were speeding at 2000mph. For all she knew, they could very well be going that fast. At first she clutched to him, her hands a death grip on his shirt, but then just like a rollercoaster she let her adrenalin take over her. She felt suddenly bubbly, exhilarated. She laughed and twisted her head around, watching the world pass by in supper speed. She looked back at Denton to see he wasn't even watching where he was going! He was watching her. "AHH! Watch where you're going!" He laughed then sped even faster through the forest. When he stopped it was so sudden Meiya felt her stomach lurch. She gritted her jaw shut, refusing to let her lunch come up. "Sorry." He said quietly then set her down on her feet gently. The world was still spinning, and it felt like his hands on her waist was the only thing keeping her on the ground. "It gets better after the first time." She weakly nodded. When the world stopped spinning she realized her hands were resting on his powerful chest and she was maybe an inch from his body, his arms wrapped protectively around her waist. She quickly pulled away. "Waoh! Don’t get any idea's big shot." She smartly commented. "What do you mean?" Meiya looked back up to his confused face. "Uh… nothing. What was it you wanted to show me?" His face grew solemn and he turned from her looking out across a completely normal forest area. "What do you see?" Meiya walked closer to the area he had reveled. "Nothing. It looks like forest to me… and you know if this was what you wanted to show me you could have stopped right after crossing the road." Denton rolled his eyes. "Look harder." Meiya sighed then looked back to the area. The trees were all the same to her, but then she saw something. A large white rock, round, almost like a bowling ball. Then another. And another. Soon she saw them every where, all pitted in the ground, some covered slightly by leaves and natural forest debris. "Is it the white rocks?" She asked looking up to Denton. He bent down and pulled one from the ground. He blew the dirt off then turned it around to show her. They weren't rocks. They were skulls. Her shocked eyes went from the skull back to Denton. "Are you going to kill me?" Denton looked down at the skull then let it drop to the ground.
"No." "Then why did you bring me here?" "Because I wanted to show you what I'm capable of." He looked out to the other skulls littering the ground. "I don’t understand." She said quietly. "This was once an army. I killed them all…" He turned back to Meiya. "If I wanted to kill you, you would be dead. Meiya, I didn't being you here to frighten you, but I brought you here to help you understand more of me. There are things that I've done that I'm not proud of… even if those acts took place 800 years ago, it still doesn't make it any less wrong… I want to be a better man, Meiya." A shiver ran down her spine, but despite her best efforts she knew it wasn't because of the skulls, it was because of her name coming off of his lips. Why did you kill them?" She whispered out into the silence. He glanced over at her, a grimace crossing over his features. "They had hunted a friend of mine that died." He said quietly. She watched him as old memories surfaced over his face. "It was a long time ago…" "We should get back… your father will be looking for you." Meiya nodded, looking down at the skulls. He stepped closer to her, and gently placed a hand on the small of her back. She looked up to him, trying to breath. "I won't hurt you." She nodded as he gently bent and picked her up. She felt the ground leave her feet. She wrapped an arm around his neck and he looked up to her. He smiled a reassuring smile before he took off. This time was much different then before, she laid her head down on his shoulder, the wind whipped her hair out behind her, but she didn't care. The man carrying her had been in sorrow and pain for 800 years. She saw that pain again when she questioned him. What pain could last for 800 years? The pain of regret? Of maybe a friend lost? A life lost? … She didn't know. When they stopped it was slowed, rather than sudden. She didn't want to move from his arms. She hadn't felt so safe since her mother died. For a moment he just held her, accepting her warmth. Then slowly he loosened his grip on her legs and let her down to the ground. She swallowed back the emotion that was suddenly welling up in her.
"Meiya!?" She turned around at her father's frantic voice. "Where have you been!?" Meiya realized they were right out side the hotel that they were staying in. "Hi, dad." She said emptily. "Where have you been!? And who is this?" Her father asked, realizing there was some one standing close to his daughter. Meiya took a step away from Denton. "I told you before dad, this is Denton." "You're boyfriend?!?" Meiya smiled at his reaction. "You look… uh…" He father scratched his head, looking Denton up and down. "Are those my cloths?" "Uh, yea… Denton's luggage was lost on the trip down… so I offered he could wear your cloths till we got him something to wear." Meiya watched as her father looked Denton up and down. "Well uh… where have you been?" "She took me to see the town." Denton interrupted, smiling brightly. "Oh." "I'm sure you would have rather us stay in the hotel all alone… with no one to disturb us… but I really wanted to show him the little pizza place down on the strip mall." Her father awkwardly took a step back. "Uh right… well… uh… leave a note next time." "Okay." Her father looked from Denton back to Meiya and squinted his eyes in suspicion. "You're boyfriend huh?" "Yep!" Meiya quickly grabbed Denton's hand smiling. Denton looked down to their hands clasped together, then over to her, a confused look on his face. Meiya squeezed his hand and he turned his face forward quickly putting on a fake smile. Her father stared at the two of them for a minuet and then sighed and turned from them walking back to the
hotel. "Supper will be served in half an hour!" He yelled back while he entered the hotel. After he was out of sight Meiya dropped Denton's hand and sighed. "Come on… let's see how much the food had changed in the last 800 years." Meiya said jokingly as she started to walk toward the hotel. "You lied to me." "What?" Meiya turned around as Denton walked the short distance between them. "You lied to me. You said a boyfriend was a companion. A friend…. You lied." His eyes sparkled with amusement as he looked down at her. "Well… I didn't mean to?" She grimaced as he raised an eye brow in question. "Didn't mean to? You mean you would rather not be a boyfriend to me?" Meiya laughed. "You mean girlfriend…. And no, it's not that… It's just-" "So you would like to be me to be your boyfriend." Denton interrupted her as he took another step forward. Meiya opened her mouth looking for words, but none came. Denton inched even closer to her till she could almost feel his lips against her's. Meiya knew she should say no. That she didn't want him to be her boyfriend. But she knew it was a flat out lie. She wanted him, she wanted him more than anyone else in her whole life. "Its pretend." The words were out before she really knew what she was doing. "Pretend?" Denton leaned back away from her. "Yes. Uh…" She swallowed even though her throat was dry. "Pretend. To act like we are boyfriend and girlfriend." Meiya bit her lip as Denton took a step back considering her words. As he thought she desperately fought her desire to jump him and kiss him. She imaged what it would be like to have his arms wrapped around her, his lips pressed against hers, both their bodies heated in passion and-
"Alright." "What?" Meiya jumped out of her thought as he turned back toward her. "I'll pretend." "Oh… okay. Great!" Meiya said quickly then turned and walked to the hotel while trying to catch her breath. Meiya pulled apart the bread bun and popped a piece of it into her mouth. She tried to follow her fathers conversation while ignoring Denton, whose was staring at her. Her father was talking about the site, something about the up stairs and the art that had been found. She didn't really care for art, but she focused all of her will on trying to follow their conversation to keep from looking back at Denton's gorgeious blue eyes. But when her father suddenly turned the conversation to Denton Meiya couldn't help but look at him. "Are you not hungry, Denton?" Her father asked him. Denton grinned then shook his head. "No, it seems the pizza that Meiya introduced me to what more filling then I expected." Her father frowned. "You've never had pizza before today?" "No. Never." "Interesting… Meiya, where did you find this young man?" Meiya choked on a sip she had just taken from her orange juice. Denton immediately leaned forward, almost coming out of his seat to help her when Meiya quickly recovered. But Denton's actions didn't go unnoticed. Her father eyed him up and down then turned back to Meiya. "You alright?" Meiya nodded then gave a reassuring smile. "Uh… I think I'm going to go get a glass of water." Meiya excused herself from the table. She could feel Denton's eyes following her. She walked to a fountain that was just out side the restraunt. She pulled the release button to let the water flow and bent over. She pulled some water in but mostly let it glide over her lips as she tried to listen passed all the commotion of the kitchen to her father and Denton. She heard her father ask what Denton's intention's with his daughter were, but she didn't hear a word back from Denton. She let go the button for the water and straightened herself, wiping her mouth as she
went. She sighed then turned back to the table, wishing the night could be done and everyone would just go to sleep. She didn't want to answer any of her fathers questions. But most of all she didn't want to be tempted again by Denton. She walked back over to the table and stood, rather than sitting down. "Uh… I think I'm going to go to bed." Meiya said quietly. "Oh good! Me too!" Her dad jumped up. Actually I think it would be best if everyone hit the hey. We have an early morning tomorrow and we'll need all the rest we can get." Everyone around the table grumbled then started to get up. Denton got up with everyone else and started to walk with Meiya. "Well Denton, you should head to your own room now." Her father hinted. "Uh… dad… actually he doesn't really have a room." Her father's face fell. "What?" "Well like I said before his luggage got lost and all of his money and stuff was in there… so… no room." "Fine." Her father sighed then walked up to the desk. "Can I get a room please." "Sorry sir, we are currently all booked!" The clerk said cheerfully. "All booked?!" "Yes, very sorry sir… perhaps check back in a couple days or so." "Couple days?!" The lady across the counter jumped. "I'm sorry sir." "Dad, its okay, he can just stay with us." Her father looked from Meiya to Denton then
back to the clerk. "Do you have cots?" "No, I'm sorry sir." Her father sighed angrily but didn't say a word and just turned from all three of them and started toward the elevator. Meiya quickly followed after him then Denton as well. All three were silent as the elevator rose up to their floor. They walked down the hall they into their room. Once inside her father turned on Denton. "You'll be sleeping with me. Understand? There will be no fooling around! I sleep like a hawk! I'll be awake if you even try to get out of the bed, understand?!" Denton looked from her father to Meiya, confused. "Don’t look at her! Look at me! Cuz that's the only face you're going to be seeing for the rest of the night, get it?" Meiya nodded enthusiastically, trying to urge Denton to do the same. Denton slowly nodded. "Uh… yes… I understand." Denton said, looking back at her father unimpressed. "And just because I'm a scientist doesn't mean I cant shoot a gun straight!" "Dad! That’s enough!" Meiya interceded. "I’m just saying." Her father said gruffly then turned away from Denton and Meiya. "I’m getting ready for bed." He said while grabbing his suitcase and walking into the bathroom. Once the door was shut Denton turned to Meiya. "What was that about?" "Boyfriend and girlfriend stuff…Sorry." Meiya winced as she tried to explain. "My dad gets a little over protective." "Why?" "Because you’re my boyfriend." "Your pretend boyfriend."
"Shh!" Meiya looked behind her to hear her father still gurgling mouthwash. "Yes… but my dad thinks we're for real so that's why he's making you sleep with him." "I'm still confused. If I'm your boyfriend should he trust me with you?" "Not necessarily… This day and age men aren't gentlemen." "That doesn’t make any sense." Denton said right as her father opened the door to the bathroom. "Hey! Ten feet apart!" Her father said quickly at seeing how close they were. Denton simply looked over at her father while Meiya walked for the bathroom. After Meiya had closed the door to the bathroom Denton turned toward her father. "Why don't you trust me?" Meiya's father looked at him blankly for a moment then burst out laughing. "Your joking right?" "No, not at all." Denton's face was concern and questioning. Her father composed himself, trying to think of a good enough reason. "Well because I care for my daughter. It's my responsibility to make sure she's safe, protected and happy." "And what if she's happy with me?" "She may very well be… but that doesn't mean things wont change. You could hurt her." "I would never hurt her!" Denton's voice was harsh and made Meiya's father ease back, a frown suddenly on his face. "I mean… hurt her by dumping her." "Dumping her? Wh-"
"Denton." Meiya interrupted once she opened the door and discovered her father and him talking. "Uh… you can have the bathroom now." She said quietly as she walked toward him. She had a plain tank top on and some pj pants on. Denton looked from her back to her father. "No thank you." He said quietly back then sighed. "Oh… okay… uh well better head to bed!" Meiya said nervously as she walked to her bed. She climbed under the covers and turned off the light. Meiya's father copied her and Denton hesitantly followed suit. Meiya didn't know what time it was when she woke from her father's snoring. That was the only bad thing about any of the trips. Most often, she didn't get any sleep. Meiya sighed and rolled over, trying to get back to sleep. However she nearly jumped out of her skin when she saw Denton standing at the end of her bed watching her. "Holy!" She whispered loudly. "I can't believe you've slept this long. His snoring could wake the dead from their grave." Meiya laughed softly. "Couldn't sleep?" "I don’t sleep." Denton answered. Meiya frowned. "But when I found you…" "I was sleeping yes, but that's different. If I sleep, I sleep for years, not hours." He walked to the side of her bed and sat down. "Well have you ever tried?" "Tried what?" "To just sleep for four or five hours." "No." "Then how do you know you can't." "How do you know you can't fly?" He remarked back. Meiya smiled then moved over in the bed. "Come on." She lifted the blanket up for him to get in. He looked at the bed then back to her. "Come on! All the hot air is leaving." He sighed then awkwardly laid down in the bed. "So tell me something." "Like what?"
"Anything. Just tell me something to get back to sleep… tell me a story." "A story?" He looked down skeptically at her. "Yeah… anything." "Why?" "To help me get back to sleep… When I was younger my mother always used to tell me stories to fall asleep, I guess I never really grew out of it." Meiya closed her eyes, cuddling into the pillow more. "When did you're mother die?" Denton asked. Meiya slowly opened her eyes to look up at him. "When I was ten… she died in a drive-by shooting." "Shooting?" "With a gun…" Denton continued to look confused. "Well let's just say it’s a weapon you don’t want to encounter." "Oh… I'm sorry." Meiya shrugged and let her eyes slide close. "What about you?" Meiya asked him. "What about me?" Meiya opened her eyes tiredly to look up at him "Did you have a family once?" "Yes… of course." He shrugged down more into the bed then let his head rest on his hand while he looked over her. "Well?" she urged, inching a little closer to him, closing her eyes once again. "Well I guess I was normal once. Human once… My mother was a maid, and my father was duke… I don’t know how they met or if my mother even truly loved my father. I never even got the chance to see her. She died while giving birth to me. My father always said it was because she was too young… she was only maybe 15 or 16 when she gave birth to me." Denton was staring at the wall, remembering ancient conversations him and his father had. "I'm sorry Denton." He quickly looked down to see she was staring up at him, sympathy in her eyes. "It was a long time ago." He assured her. "But that doesn't mean it hurts any less." "No… I guess not." "So what happened to your father?"
"He died the night I became a vampire." Denton said quietly. "What happened?" She asked, her eyes still focused on him "The man that made me killed him." "Who made you?" "I don’t know… nor do I really care to." "Do you know why he did it?" Denton looked down away from Meiya. "He said he loved my mother…" Denton said quietly. "You're mother?" "I don’t know how he knew her, but he made me into what I am today." "So how did you end up in that coffin?" Denton looked over to her then sighed and lowered his head, not saying another word. "Denton?" "What is dumped?" Meiya frowned at first, knowing he was changing the subject. "Well dumped is just a word, I guess used mostly as an action… like she dumped the water onto the ground." "No, your father said that you would feel hurt when you were dumped." "OH! Well tha- wait, he said that?!" Meiya cut herself off, realizing the gist of the conversation Denton and her father had had when she was in the bathroom. "Yes… I told him I would never hurt you." "Well uh… dumped in that sense is like… uh… alright lets say we were actually dating." "Alright." "And after a while you got really sick of me." "Sick of you?" "Uh… I mean you got really annoyed with me." "okay." "So you decide you want to dump me… its like breaking the bond we would have. Uh like saying you didn’t want to be with me." "Why would I say that?" "Because you don’t like me anymore." Denton laughed. "I highly doubt that would ever happen." Meiya smiled.
"Well we're not even dating, so you don’t have to worry about it." Meiya smiled then yond. "Man, I wish my father didn't snore so loudly." All the while his snoring seemed to continue to get louder. "Yeah… But when you do get a real boyfriend I think he'll be glad you don’t take after your father. You’re a very quiet sleeper." "Really?" Denton smiled and nodded. Meiya couldn't help smile along with him. "You should try and get some sleep." "Try in the key word there." Meiya said as she yond again. "Here." Denton reached out and put his one hand over her ear. Meiya jumped at the coldness of his hand. "Oh… sorry." "Its okay… you're just really cold." "Sorry… cant help it." "Right… vampire… almost forgot." Meiya said, sliding her eyes closed. "Almost." She whispered again before silence weighed in on the two. "Meiya, wake up!" Meiya heard her father's voice and instantly remembered Denton in her bed. "ITS NOT WHAT YOU THINK!" He yelled, sitting up suddenly in her bed. "Its not what I think? Honey, its morning." Meiya looked to her left to see the bed was empty except her. "Where's Denton?" "He's down stairs reserving us seats for breakfast… man that boy is an early riser, he was up before me a 6! Just sitting there reading the morning newspaper." "Really…" Meiya said getting up. "Yeah, pretty unbelievable!" "Hey, dad…" "Yeah?"
"Lighten up on him a bit, okay?" Meiya said, a prang of guilt running through her. Denton didn't have to put up with her father. He wasn't technically her boyfriend. Her father sighed. "I'll try." "Thanks." "Come on, Denton maybe able to handle me, but I doubt he would be able to handle all of the other hungry hotel people." Meiya smirked. "You'd be surprised." When the two of them made it downstairs Denton was seated at a table for four. He stood when he saw Meiya and her father enter the room. He smiled that gorgeous smile and for a moment Meiya wished she had put on more make up and done her hair a little prettier. "Good morning." He greeted still smiling. "How'd you sleep?" He asked a little twinkle in his eyes. "Not so great… but there were some parts of the night that were really great." His grin widened. "Glad to hear it." He said then quickly pulled out a chair for her. She blushed a little as her father looked at Denton weirdly. Meiya sat down quickly then scotched in her chair. "Every one here?" A waitress asked walking up to the table. "Yes, now they are." Denton answered. The waitress smiled a perfect sparkling smile toward Denton. "So what can I get for you?" She asked more Denton than anyone else. "Meiya?" Denton asked, forcing the waitress's attention toward her. "Uh… Pancakes and orange juice… please." The waitress lost her smile as she wrote down Meiya's order then instantly her smile was back as she turned back to Denton.
Denton just motioned toward Meiya's father. The girl literally rolled her eyes and sighed as she turned toward Meiya's father. "Uh.. I'm just going to have coffee, thank you." She turned back to Denton. "No one left but you!" She said in an overly happy voice. "Just coffee." "Are you sure?" She asked, putting on a pouty face. "Yes." He said completely unaffected by her attempt at attention. She smiled again then 'accidentally' dropped her waitresses tray. She bent over, her butt almost in Denton's face. She stayed that way for longer than was necessary. She made a quick glance back, expecting Denton to be slobbering over her. But instead he wasn't even looking in her direction, instead he was smiling at Meiya, in fact it was more like staring at Meiya. The waitress righted herself then huffed and walked away with her pride wounded. Meiya looked to her father who was staring at Denton shocked. "So uh… dad…" Her father snapped out of his shocked stare. "What are we doing today?" "Were going back to the site… to uh… try and recover what ever was lost yesterday with the collapse of the floor… Just imagine… if you have still been down there… the crash had been right where you were standing." "Yeah…" Meiya looked back to Denton who just smirked. "I guess I have a guardian angle watching over me." He tilted his head slightly toward her, still smirking. "But what else are we gonna do?" "Well I wanna work on that upper level… with that sanctuary." Meiya saw Denton's head snap toward her father. "Sanctuary?" "Yes… there was a sanctuary… or I guess like a mini graveyard upstairs." "What?" Meiya said frowning, looking at her father in shock then quickly turned back to
Denton. "Yeah… its just two graves, and by the looks of it they were well taken care of… I wanna know more about them." He said as the waitress walked up with their drinks. "Excuse me." Denton said quietly and got up from the table and walked away. Her father frowned after him then looked to Meiya, who was frowning. "Just a sec." Meiya said quickly to her father then got up to follow after him. "Denton?" She called jogging slightly to catch up with him. "What is it?" He didn't answer her, he just kept walking. "Denton, what's wrong!" she grabbed his arm, trying to stop him. He turned toward her, he was clearly upset. "He cant touch them!" He said angrily. "Who?" Denton walked two steps away from Meiya then quickly turned and walked back. "Your father cant disturb that place!" "Why?" "Because! They've been through enough! They have to be at peace… with each other…" "Denton… who are they?" "Please Meiya… just don’t let you're father separate them." He looked back to the restraunt to her father. Then back to her. "please." He said then turned from her and walked away. "Denton! Denton, wait!" He didn't wait. "What was that about?" Her father asked when Meiya came back to the table. "I'm not really sure." Meiya confessed, frustrated. "Well I can tell ya one thing for sure, it has nothing to do with the way he feels about you. Did you see that waitress and him? She was all over him and he didn't even blink in her direction!" Meiya smiled a small smile then the waitress brought her food and placed it in
front of her with out a word. "You know… I'm not really hungry anymore." Meiya said then pushed away from the table. "I'm just gonna go back to bed… I didn't sleep that well last night." "Meiya, are you alright?" "Yeah, fine dad… don’t worry. I'll be up in time for when the crew leaves." "Okay." Meiya walked up to her room and slipped under the covers, her thoughts muddling in and out of her mind. All of Denton. When Meiya woke it was to her father barging into the room. "Meiya! Meiya! Get up! Some one's taken them!" "What?" Meiya asked, trying to get her mind to focus. "Some one took them!" He shouted again. "Took who?" "The two tombs that were upstairs at the site!!" Her father yelled as he paced the floor. "What do you mean dad?" "The two bodies and tombs are gone! I can't believe it! Those coffins were made of marble. They had to weigh an exorbitant amount! It would have to take at least twenty to thirty men to lift just one of them, let alone 2!… maybe a truck or a crane, but there wasn't any tracks of men or anything going into the house or coming out! It was like the coffins just disappeared!" "Wait… the sanctuary thing with the two people… their gone?" "YES! That's what I've been saying all along! Haven't you been listening!?" "Denton." Meiya whispered out, her mind suddenly exploding with thought. "What did you say?" "Nothing… I just uh… cant believe it." "I know! Me neither! Its simply crazy!" He continued to pace back and forth. Meiya threw the covers off of her. "Have you seen Denton?" "No… not since this morning." "Have you been to the site?" "Yes, of course! The police are there and they cant explain it more than we can." Her father shook his head in frustration.
"Dad, you have to calm down… its gonna be okay." Meiya tried to reassure him. "I'm going to go talk with the police… you should find Denton, it’s a mad house down at the site and I don’t want either of you down there… just stay in the restraunt or here, what even, just stay out of the way till this has all been taken care of, understand?" Meiya nodded as she got up from the bed and walked out of the room with her father. "I just don’t know how I'm going to find him." "He's probably still in the hotel, maybe in the pool… try there." "Yeah… maybe." Meiya said doubtfully. Her father and her rode the elevator down, as soon as the door was opened her father was grabbed by one of the archeologists. Meiya walked out into the chaos of police and scientists and reporters. She looked at the sea of strangers, taking a few slow steps into the crowd. Her eyes caught the door right as it opened, her heart suddenly jumped as she saw Denton walk through the door. She tried to calm her pulse as he walked toward her. His face was stone cold and Meiya tried to remind herself that she had to be mad at him. His hands and arms were filthy and he had dirt covering him. He stopped in front of her, their eyes connected. Meiya barely registered all the people staring at the two of them. "Denton… what did you do?" Before Denton could answer her the clerk lady from yesterday ran up to them. "Oh there you are! I got you a room sir!" She said elated, and completely unaware of the mood between Meiya and Denton. She held out a key to Denton. "Room 32 on floor 4" Denton smiled a small smile toward the woman to know it was appreciated. She quickly turned from the two of them and walked through the crowd. Denton sighed as he looked back at Meiya, a steady frown on her face. "Come on, we can't talk here." Denton took a quick step toward her and placed a hand on her lower back, leading her back toward the elevator. He pressedthe button then looked back around the crowd. "Who are all these people?" "Police and reporters… Denton in this age you cant…" Meiya saw a police man eyeing her and Denton. Meiya lowered her voice and continued."You cant do what you did… and not have people not notice!" He looked at her then back around the crowd. "What are police?" "They are the law. They are men that catch criminals and put them in jail!" Meiya said as she turned toward the elevator when she heard the distinctive ding.
Denton walked in with her then pushed the 4th floor button. The doors were just about closed when a man squeezed his way through. Both Meiya and Denton were awkwardly silent as they road the elevator up to the 4th floor. They got out and walked to room 32. Denton twisted the key in the lock and opened up the door for Meiya to walk through first. She walked in but as soon as the door was shut she turned on Denton again. "How could you!?" "Meiya… calm down." "Calm down?! There are police down stairs, my father is going nuts. The two tombs that you freaked out over this morning are gone and you come in covered in dirt. Why don’t you just shout out to the world that you were the one that stole two coffins from the site! And maybe while your at it, why not just confess that you’re a vampire and love to suck the life out of people! That sounds great! Then maybe I could calm down!" Meiya yelled, pacing back and forth in front of Denton. "Alright! So I did it! I told you before that I couldn’t let your father separate them." "So you stole them!?!" Meiya stopped pacing, swinging her arms up in the air, yelling at him. "What else was a supposed to do?" "Well I don’t know- maybe NOT steal them! That would be a good start!" Meiya raked her hands through her hair. "Well it’s a little too late for that, isn't it?" Denton said back, his voice sarcastic and frustrated. "Apparently." Meiya sat down on the bed, sighing, her head in her hands. "If my dad finds out it was you he's gonna kill me." "Why would he kill you?" Denton's voice was suddenly serious. "He wouldn't literally kill me, he would just be mad… really, really mad."
"I'm sorry… I never thought this would affect you so much." Meiya lifted her head out of her hands, hearing him closer. She looked up to see him crouched in front of her, his eyes full of concern. "What's so important about them Denton?" He looked down to the floor. "Denton?" He stood, turning away from her. "I hate it when you do that!... you just turn away from me and bury what ever it is just deeper, when I know that you need to let it out!" "You don’t know anything about me, Meiya." "That's because you won't let me!" Her voice cracked and she could feel the emotion build up in her throat. She looked down right as Denton looked back at her. "I'm doing it again aren’t I?" "Doing what?" Meiya mumbled, still looking down. "Hurting some one that I care about." Meiya's head snapped up. Silence consumed the two of them, and just when Meiya was about to speak Dentonspoke. "I saved her from five men… she had escaped an army of rapists and I saved her from the group of men that tried to catch her…" Meiya watched as Denton's eyes blurred over into memories. "She was so beautiful…" Meiya's throat clenched shut at hearing those words come from his lips for another woman. "I was still angry at becoming a vampire… I couldn't feel anything, I couldn't breath, I couldn't die… She made me feel human again…" Denton paused. "But when he came after her… I thought… I thought he was one of the rapists… He had a sword and he fought better than any one I had ever fought before… but he didn't have a chance against me. I killed him. She was on the stairs… She screamed his name… But it was too late…" Meiya felt tears spill over onto her cheeks. "She didn't want to live with out him… she asked me to kill her." Meiya's breath caught in her throat, waiting for his next words but he didn't say anything else. He didn't have to. Meiya knew the ending. Meiya felt her legs contract, bring her up off the bed, she ran to him and wrapped her arms around his neck in a hug. She pressed herself against him, trying to take away his pain. She felt a strong arm wrap around her then the other, but he didn't cry… not a tear, he simply held her, letting go of the pain he had held onto for so long. Meiya felt Denton gently ease away from her. She gently let go and whipped her tears away. "I separated them in this life… I couldn't let them be separated again." Meiya nodded at his words… "Its okay." She whispered.
"Are you alright?" He asked seeing her whip at her tears. "I'm fine…" She looked up at Denton, trying to smile. "I'm so sorry Denton… I just-" "You didn’t know. It wasn't your fault… but you understand now." "Yes… where did you put them?" Denton looked reverently down then back up to Meiya. "At peace." Meiya just nodded then sighed loudly. "Wow… I think the last time I cried was three years ago!" Meiya said then turned from Denton, going back to the bed and sat down. Denton walked after her and sat beside her. "What happened?" "What?" Meiya asked looking over at him confused. "What happened to make you cry… three years ago." "OH! Uh… my boyfriend broke up with me." "You had a boyfriend before me!?" Denton said like it was completely wrong. "Well yeah! And technically, we're not together…" "I know… but having a boyfriend… isn't that the step before getting married?" "WHAT?! No! Not at all." Denton frowned, confused. "That’s like a fiancé. Boyfriend and girlfriend is like a short term relationship." "Oh…" "I guess it can be a long term relationship too… but it's nothing like being a fiancé to some one." "Oh…" Denton said quietly. "I'm sorry… I bet its kindda hard for you, huh?" Meiya said looking down. "Not with you." Denton replied. "What do you mean?" Meiya asked still looking down, watching her fingers intertwine with them selves. She froze when she felt his hand on her face, gently urging her to look at him. "I mean that when I'm with you, everything is simple. Even when I don’t understand how this world works its okay because I'm with you.… you make me feel-" He suddenly cut himself off and his face fell, his hand slipped from her face as he got up from the bed, stepping away from her. His expression one of shock. "Denton?" Meiya got up and took a step toward him. "Are you okay?"
"I'm not human." He whispered, looking away from her. "I know you're not human." She said back. He glanced up to her then sighed. "I’m sorry… I just kindda got a shock from my own thoughts." He said quietly. "Are you sure you're okay?" He looked back toward her then laughed. "Meiya I'm a vampire… nothing can hurt me… I'm fine." She smiled and looked down. "Right… sorry." Denton jerked his head up, listening. "Your father is looking for you." Meiya looked at him in shock. "Where is he?" "Down stairs… he wants to make sure your safe." "You can hear my father from all the way down stairs?!" Denton just shrugged. "He said your name and it caught my attention." He said as if it were a perfect explanation. "Right… well I better go reassure him I'm okay…" Meiya walked to the door then stopped and turned around to look at Denton. "You should get cleaned up." Denton smiled. "Okay." "Oh, can I borrow the key so I can just come right back here?... I mean if that’s okay." "Yeah sure." He pulled the key out of his pocket and threw it to her. She caught it then took another look at him. "We're gonna need to get you some more cloths too… okay… I'll be right back." "ok." She quickly walked out of the room then to the elevator and down to the first floor. "Hey dad!" She yelled over to him, seeing he was still looking over the crowd. "Oh! Hi honey, did you find Denton?" "Yeah… oh, at the clerk lady got him a room too." "Great… stay with him…I don’t know how long this will take so maybe order room service or something and just charge it to the room, okay?" "Okay." "Wait what room is he in?" "room 32 on the 4th floor."
"Okay… you should bring him some more of my cloths for now… why was he so dirty?" "Oh, you saw that huh?... well uh… a dog… attacked him!" "Attacked him!?" "Yes. Crazy, rabies kindda dog, just came out of nowhere and took Denton to the ground… Denton tried to get away, but the dog just kept attacking!" Meiya winced inwardly, knowing her father was going to laugh any moment at her ridicules lie. "Well is he alright?" He asked concerned. "Oh yeah… he uh… knocked the dog out and got away." "Huh… okay… well go on, I'll see you when this is over." Meiya smiled at her father then almost ran back for the elevator. She stopped on the 2nd floor to grab some cloths for Denton then went up to the 4th floor. She didn't knock, she just put in the key and walked in. She heard the shower going as she set the cloths down on the bed. The shower suddenly stopped. "Meiya?" Denton called out. "Hey! Yeah, it’s a mad house down stairs so I brought up some extra cloths from dad! And I'm going to order room service!" Meiya yelled back, picking up the phone and looking over the menu. "You know you don’t have to yell." Meiya jumped as she heard Denton's voice right behind her. She twisted around and instantly she felt her hand loosen and the phone drop to the floor. He was wearing a towel around his waist the rest of his body still slightly wet from being in the shower. He looked like a model straight out off of television or something. He smiled a lopsided grin then took the cloths off of the bed then walked back into the bathroom. Meiya watched him go every inch of the way, not able to remove her eyes from his body till the door was closed. "Wow… he has an amazing body…" She whispered to herself. "Thanks!" Denton yelled from inside the shower. Meiya felt her cheeks go red with embarrassment. She heard the door to the bath room open again. Meiya turned around ready to say she didn't mean it when he spoke first. "You don’t have such a bad body either." Meiya smiled and scooped up some of her hair, tucking it behind her ear. "Thanks." "So what is room service?" Denton asked walking around her to pick up the phone. He looked at in a moment then jumped when the phone gave the dull beeping sound to say it was off the hook for more than a minuet. "And what is this?" Meiya laughed.
"That’s a phone… you talk to people through it… and room service is the best invention to man kind." She said as she took the phone from Denton and hung it up. She picked it up again and dialed the number for room service. "Hi… yeah, can I get a diner for 2 of Chinese food… yes… room 32 4th floor… okay… thank you." She hung up the phone and looked back to Denton who instantly picked up the phone and put it to his ear. He looked at it confused when there was just dead air. "I hung up… the call is disconnected." He looked at the phone then carefully placed the phone back on its cradle. "Interesting." He said looking from the phone to her. "So what else is there?" "What do you mean?" "What other inventions have been made? Like this!" he pointed to the light in the ceiling. "What is this called?" "It’s a light. You turn it on and off with that switch over there." Meiya pointed toward the wall. Denton walked over and flicked the switch so they were in darkness. Then quickly turned it back on… then off. "Wow… So is there a spark up there that starts the fire? Or how does it work?" "No, its no fire… its electricity… its power that comes through the wall to the light." "Its in the wall?" Denton looked at the wall that the light switch was on. "Well probably all the walls, the power goes to this lamp and to the mini fridge as well… and the bathroom… its every where." "Really? Huh… what else?" Denton asked coming toward her. "Well there's the car… which you've already experienced… and computers and… oh, my favorite, ipods. Denton's frown deepened as she spoke. For the rest of the night Denton ate up everything Meiya said. It was around 12 when her father knocked on the door. Denton answered the door, opening up the door even more when he saw who it was. "Come on Meiya… time to go to bed." Meiya jumped up from sitting cross legged on the bed. Her father didn't wait for her as he turned back to the hall, already walking for the elevator. Meiya walked passed Denton smiling. "Good night." She said quietly, slowing her steps as she walked out into the hall. Denton leaned against the door and the door jam, letting his body lean toward her. "Sleep well." He said smiling. Meiya rolled eyes.
"I'll try… see you in the morning." Meiya said quickly as he father called after her. She turned from Denton then walked down the hall to her father. Denton watched as she went. The elevator door opened and she walked in feeling Denton's eyes on her as she went. Meiya turned to her father who looked like he was already sleeping on his feet. "Rough night, huh?" Her father just grunted. She didn't say another word as they walked to their room and got dressed for bed. Her father flicked off the light. Meiya had her eyes closed for maybe 5 minuets when his snoring started. Meiya groaned and rolled over in her bed. After an hour of trying to sleep Meiya gave up. She got up out of bed and looked at her father then around the room, rapping her arms around her because it was cold. Meiya bit her lip as she grabbed her pillow then walked quietly to the door. She opened the door and slipped out into the empty hall. She walked to the elevator and pressed the 4th floor after a moment. The doors glided open but she couldn't move. What was she doing?! Her father would kill her if he woke up! … No… he father would kill Denton if she ever woke up! She sighed then pressed the 2nd floor button. When the doors glided open she could hear her fathers snoring already. Meiya winced, hating the thought of even going back into that room. "I'll just sleep on the couch… if dad comes in he wont be able to freak out because I'll be on the couch… just on couch." She whispered to herself then quickly pressed the 4th floor button once again. When the doors to the 4th floor swung open a second time Meiya quickly stepped out before she could change her mind. But what if he doesn't want me in his room? He doesn't sleep, so why would he stay quiet all night just for me? Meiya quickly turned around but the doors had already slid closed. She pressed the button but they didn't open again. Is that a sign? Am I supposed to go to his room? If not… uh open now! She thought in her head, talking to the elevator doors. The doors didn't open. "Okay." She whispered as she turned to face down the hall. She took three slow steps toward his door then quickly turned around and took them back to the elevator. She mentally smacked herself. "Just do it." She whispered then made herself walk quickly to his door and knock. She didn't even wait a second before she was bolting back down the hall to the elevator. "Hi Meiya." Meiya stopped dead in her tracks turned back to Denton. He was standing shirtless with her father's pair of pants on. "Hi… I just…" "Couldn't sleep?" He guessed. Meiya smiled. "How'd yea know?"
"I spent one night with his snoring. I know." Meiya laughed quietly then walked slowly back toward Denton. "Is it okay?..." "You didn't even have to ask. Come on in." He stepped aside to let her in. Meiya walked in then sat on the couch. "You know your father probably won't wake up and "freak out"." "Oh… you heard that huh?" "Every word." Meiya closed her eyes trying to control her embarrassment. "You don’t have to sleep on the couch." "But-" "I'm not going to using the bed Meiya and the couch isn't very comfortable… besides if your father does wake up, believe me all of the second floor and I will know." Meiya laughed. "Okay." She walked to the bed and pulled back the covers. She flopped her own pillow down and then laid down. Denton turned off the light as she settled in. "Oh, you don’t have to turn off the light if you want to do something." He chuckled. It doesn't matter if the lights are on or off, I still see the same. "Really?" "Yes… now sleep!" He said then turned from her. "What are you going to do?" "Read." Denton answered back quickly "Read what?"
"The encyclopedia." "WHAT?!" Meiya sat up in bed trying to see through the dark what he was really doing. "It’s a joke Meiya… go to sleep." "Oh… right…" She settled back down and surprisingly fast, went to sleep. When Meiya woke the next morning she opened her eyes to see she was cuddled up to Denton. Her head was lying on his shoulder and one of her legs was wrapped around his, her arm draped over his chest. "Oh!' She quickly untangled herself from him. "I'm sorry." Denton laughed shifting a bit, but not getting up from his spot. "You were shivering in your sleep last night… I came over to put another blanket on you and you latched onto me. Why, I have no idea because I'm colder than you already were, but after that you wouldn't let me go." Meiya smiled and looked down embaressed. Denton laughed. "I'm really sorry." Meiya said putting her hands over her burning face. She felt Denton's cold hand gently urge her hands down. She looked up at him and he smiled that lopsided smile. "Don’t be." He leaned forward. Meiya's heart stopped. He kissed her forehead, smiled then got up out of bed. Meiya let herself flop back, her heart no long stopped but now racing. "OH! My father!" She bolted right back up, as her muddled mind started to work. "Still asleep." Denton said smiling. "But you should probably get down there before he wakes up." "Right…" Meiya slipped out of bed and grabbed her pillow. "Thank you for-" "Any time." Denton said cutting her off. He walked her to the door. And she turned around once out in the hall.
"So does this mean I get to come here tonight as well?" "If you wish." Meiya smiled. "Well good morning." "It is a good morning, isn't it?" Meiya smiled, trying not to blush. "See you at breakfast." He nodded then slowly closed the door as she walked away. When the elevator door opened onto the second floor she could hear her fathers snoring. She walked to the room and keyed the door open quietly. She stepped inside and right when she closed the door her father stopped snoring, he grumbled then leaned up slightly, looking around the room. "Meiya?" "Oh, morning dad… breakfast is just starting, we should get up." Meiya made sure to say we rather than you. "Right…" He yond and stretched. "Ah… ah… ahchoo!" Meiya sneezed. "Woah… bless you!" "Thanks…" Meiya said as she walked to the bathroom. "Ahchoo!" She sneezed again as she walked. "uh…" Meiya blew her nose. "wow… my head hurts." Meiya mumbled as she walked out of the bathroom. "Are you okay?" "Yeah… I think so." "It was a little cold in here last night." Her father commented. Meiya almost burst out
laughing. Not as cold as up stairs in Denton's arms. She thought, she was tempted to say what she was thinking but instead commented. "I didn't think you noticed with all that snoring." "Oh, I'm sorry… did I keep you up again?" "No… actually I slept quiet well." "Oh good, see I told you, you'd get used to it." He said as he walked passed her into the bathroom. "AHCHOO!" Meiya sneezed into her hand. "ahw…" She sighed as her head started to throb. "Are you sure you're not getting sick." "I don’t know… maybe." "Well if you are I don’t want you out of bed, remember the last time you got sick? You kept coming out to the site and making every one else sick… that exhibition was supposed to take 2 days and because every one got sick it took 2 weeks!" Her father said through the door. "I know… I promise, as soon as I think that I'm sick I'll stay in bed." "No, you promise that you'll stay in bed when I say you're sick." Meiya chuckled. "Alright." "Promise?" "Promise." "You should go wake Denton for breakfast."
"Bu-… okay!" Meiya caught her self, she was about to say that Denton was already awake. "I'm just going to get changed first." "Its supposed to be cold out today so wear a sweater." "Okay!" Meiya said as she slipped out of her pj's and into some jeans and a sweatshirt. She walked out the door and walked to the elevator. She pushed the button and it dinged right away and opened. Denton stood in the elevator. "Oh! Hi! I was just going up to get you." "Well here I am!" "Ahchoo!" "Yeah… I heard…" Denton commented, loosing his smile. "I don’t know what's wrong with me." Meiya walked into the elevator. "I think if I get some food in me maybe I'll be okay." He smiled sympathetically. "I hope so." Denton pressed the button for the main floor. "So can vampires get sick?" "Not that I know of… I kindda doubt it." "Right… I guess it would be hard to live for ever when you get sick every two seconds." The elevator dinged then the doors opened. The foyey was still a complete mad house, but not as bad as it was yesterday. "Man, do these guys ever sleep!" "Some did, some stayed up all night." Meiya snapped her head toward Denton. "Oh right… supper hearing." He smiled at he as they made their way over to the restraunt. For how busy it was they got a table pretty fast. Meiya ordered breakfast and Denton didn't order anything.
"So how often do you feed?" Meiya asked, trying to be casual. "Depends on how much I need." "Well how many times have you… since… well since I found you?" "Twice." "huh.." "Excuse me… can I ask you a few questions?" a police man came up behind Meiya. She turned to see who it was it was the police officer, the one that was watching Denton and her yesterday. Meiya went ridged as she turned back around. "Sure!" Denton said completely relaxed and casual. "Where were you yester day morning?" "With Meiya." Meiya tried her best to smile. "All morning?" "For most of it, yes." "And where were you for the rest of it?" The officer asked, his eyes narrowing like a predator moving in on its prey. "In the bathroom… and in the shower… oh and I took the elevator down before her… So I guess that counts too." Denton said smiling. The officers shoulders dropped then he turned to Meiya. "So you were with him all morning?" Meiya looked to Denton who looked at her calmly and casually. "Uh… yeah… All morning." She lied. She hated lying. She was bad at it too.
"uh huh…" He said not believing a word she said. "So what were you doing all morning?" "Having breakfast, what were you doing?" Denton asked, making polite conversation. "At home with my wife." "Oh! You have a wife, that’s great! What's her name?" The cop looked from Denton to Meiya. Meiya shrunk down in her seat. "Uh… That doesn't matter." The cop said quickly, trying to get back in control. "Doesn't matter?! She's your wife, she should always matter." "Of course… but-" "Well either she does or she doesn't!" "She does, but she has nothing to do with this." The cop blurted. "With what? I thought we were just having a conversation." "Well uh…" "Unless you had some hidden motive behind our conversation…" Denton smirked as the cop stumbled for control. The waitress came around with their food. "Ah! Well our food is here, would you like to join us now or perhaps another time?" "Another time… uh… good day." He said bewildered then walked away. Meiya watched the cop walk away then turned back to Denton, her eyes big as saucers. "I can't believe you just did that! How did you do that?!" Denton just shrugged and looked at her plate of food.
"What is that? It smells kindda good… not as good as my meals, but still." "Denton!" "What?" "Don’t change the subject… how did you…" Denton smirked and picked up a piece of her food and popped it in his mouth. "Meiya, after living 800 years there is little that will make me edgy or jumpy." He bit down on the piece of bread that he had took and instantly made a grows face and grabbed a napkin and spit it out. "Eck! Grows." He said after he had spat it out. "My meals taste much, much better." Meiya laughed till she cried. Meiya's father walked into the elevator. "Oh hey dad!" Meiya said smiling up at her father. "The exhibition is over, we're going home." He said bluntly. "What?!" Meiya stood from the table. "The police and other government forces are taking over the site. They won't let us any where near it. I just got a call from the company to head home." "What! They can't do that!" "They can and they did… come on, there's nothing we can do now." "Well what happened? Did they find something, or what?" "I don’t know, all I know is that we're going home…" Her father paused and turned back toward Denton. "That means you too… we're gonna have to get you a temporary passport till we can get back to America and prove that your American. Come on, go pack Meiya." Meiya stood from the table and her father laid a twenty down on the table.
"I can't believe this!" "It could be because of the theft, but I have a feeling that we'll never know for sure." Meiya looked at Denton then pushed the button to the elevator, trying to bite her tung. Once up with their hotel room Meiya shoved her cloths into her pack, not caring if they were folded or not. "Hey, Meiya were did you park the jeep?" Meiya's father asked walking into the bathroom to grab their tooth brushes and other toiletries. Meiya's memory clicked realizing that the jeep was still outside the barber shop down town. "Uh…" Mieya quickly turned to Denton, wincing… "Its uh… just outside!" Meiya fished quickly through her jean pockets till she got the keys she tossed them to Denton. "Go, go, go!" Meiya whispered. "I don’t know how to drive a car!" Denton whispered back. "I told you all the basics the other night… you'll be fine… please, you can just zip down and get it… dad will never know. Please?" Meiya whispered back, pleading. "Great! Well as soon as we're finished packing we'll just take the jeep to the airport." Meiya turned around to see her father come out of the bathroom. When she turned back around to talk to Denton he was gone. "Where did Denton go?" "Uh… he's just gonna pull around the jeep." Meiya said quickly as she slowly continued to pack her cloths. She bit her lip and raked her hands through her hair. "I just hope he doesn't crash it while doing it." "Okay, you just about ready?" Her father asked. "Uh… I uh…" Meiya glanced out the window to see Denton drive up in the jeep. "Holy he's fast." Meiya whispered under her breath. "Yeah… I think so." Meiya said louder for her father to hear.
"Great… lets go." Meiya quickly zipped up her suit case then walked out of the hotel room with her father. OH CRAP! The door on the jeep!! Meiya thought, remembering Denton's impressing of his hand. "Denton… I hope you can hear me…" Meiya whispered. "Make sure the door just looks bent out of place and not the indent of your hand… my dad's gonna freak, but-" "What are you muttering Meiya?" "Nothing." Meiya said as she entered the elevator with her father. When they made it out into the parking lot Denton was leaning casually against the passenger side door. Meiya tried to see the door, to see if he had heard her. Her father picked up her luggage and dumped into the back of the jeep, then his own. "Alright… lets get out of here." Her father walked to the drivers side and jumped in. Denton held open the door for Meiya and she quickly sat down in the passenger side. She looked at the door when he closed it and it hardly even look damaged! A little dented, but nothing to worry about. Meiya wanted to ask him how he had fixed it but she kept her mouth shut, smiling inconspiculasly to her father. Denton jumped in the back and they were off to the air port. It was then that Meiya felt sick. Her head started to pound and she could feel her bodies temperature start to rise. Half an hour later her body felt achy and numb as she stepped out of the jeep. "Auh…" The world spun and she closed her eyes, feeling her body sway. She grabbed the closest thing, which thankfully happened to be Denton. He held her steady. "You're getting sick." Denton said looking down at her flushed face. "I'm fine." Meiya said trying to make the world stop spinning. She took a step and it felt like she was on a boat, like the ground was floating or something. Denton caught her as she started to fall. "You're sick." He announced with out question. "Are you okay honey?" Her father asked as Denton placed a cold hand on her forehead.
Meiya moaned at how good that felt against her hot flesh. "She has a fever." Denton said back to her father. "I'm fine." Meiya protested. She took a step away from Denton. The world pun again and she ended up back in Denton's arms. Denton looked down at her skeptically. "Okay… I'm sick." She admitted and he smiled. "Come on." He said wrapping an arm around her, keeping her steady. "I'll get the luggage." He father said, looking at her concerned. "Don’t worry sweetie, we'll be home before you know it… then you can sleep in your own bed." He said walking over to the two of them then with her father leading them the three walked into the little airport. Meiya remembered very little of that day, all she knew was that she was either sleeping in Denton's arms or her fathers. With her fever so high, she couldn't tell which, nor did she particularly care. She remembered her father giving her pills to take to bring down her fever. When she did finally come to she was on the plane, the jets just starting to warm up. She looked up from the lap she was laying in to see it was Denton. "Oh… hi." Meiya said and slowly pushed herself up from Denton's lap. "Hi… how are you feeling?" "Uh… better." Denton instantly put his hand to her forehead. "You're fevers gone down… that’s good…" "Where's dad?" "He's in the other section… gave up his seat beside you for me…" Denton said smiling at Meiya. "He did?!" "Yep." "Why?" "Don’t know… I guess after the guards in the airport he figured I had you're best intentions at hand." "Wait, what? What happened?" "Oh the guards… or I guess they are called security now… well they wanted to search you… you were out cold, so I wouldn't let them touch you." Meiya looked at Denton,
waiting for him to tell her it was all just a joke. "Are you serious?!" "One of them was looking at you like how a man lusts after a woman… I wouldn't let that happen when you weren't in your right mind." "Wow… uh thank you…" Meiya paused trying to imagine what it would have been like. "So what did you do to change their mind?" Denton smirked but didn't answer her. "Denton… what did you do? You didn't hurt them, did you?" "Oh, no… nothing like that… just showed them a glimpse of what they were messing with." "What-" "We are now ready for take off, please take your seats and ensure that your seatbelt is fasten properly." A voice over the intercom said bluntly. Meiya clipped on her seat belt and Denton did the same. The engines started to roar into life and Denton gripped the arms rests. "OH! Denton, you cant do that! Not here, there are too many people that will see… you have to control your strength." Denton looked over at her then his eyes flicked out the window. They were moving a little faster down the runway, he was still gripping the arm rests in a death grip. "Denton look at me! Its safe, I promise… just like the car." He looked back at her then slowly let go of the arm rests to show he was trying to calm down. But then they started to go faster. At first Denton's hands stayed away from the arm rests… till they started to make air then he grasped the metal again. Meiya could hear the metal and plastic start to bend. "Denton! Please!" His jaw was clenched tight and the tendons in his neck stood out. She put her hand over his trying to calm him down, it didn't help. She saw a business man look over at Denton frowning. Meiya knew she had to do something to get his mind off of the airplane. With her heart pounding in her chest she leaned over and with one hand urged Denton's face toward her. Then she pressed her lips against his. At first he was so tense that there was no reaction from him. But it started in his hands. She felt his hand underneath her's start to relax then she felt his other hand grip the back of her neck, bringing him closer to him. He moved his lips against her's, intensifying the kiss. She let her other hand travel up his arm to his bicep. She could feel it contracting as he pulled her closer and closer to him. She gave into him. This kiss that was supposed to just take his mind off of the airplane suddenly turned into a boiling pool of passion that neither she nor Denton could control. She opened up to him, let him take control. He licked her lips silently asking for more. She instantly obliged, letting him delve into her. "AH HUM!" Both Denton and Meiya quickly pulled away. An old women across the isle was glaring at them. Meiya blushed deep red realizing that the old woman wasn’t the only one that was staring at the two of them. Meiya looked out the window, letting her heart slow. After a second she felt Denton's hand find her's. He twined his fingers around her's and smiled a lopsided grin towards her. She bit her lip then her smile broke through.
When the plane was starting to land Meiya smiled at Denton and asked if he was okay. He smirked. "Yeah… I think I'll survive for another couple thousand years." He hadn't let go of her hand since he had first held it. Meiya just smiled then looked out the window. "Look!" She said pointing out the window. Denton looked to see all the lights lighting up the city. "Wow…" Meiya looked at Denton, smiled then looked back out the window. "What's it called?" "NYC… New York City…" "Is that where you live?" Meiya looked at Denton smiling. "No, we live in Stamford. It’s a small town upstate of New York." "Huh…" "We used to live in the city, but after Mom died Dad wanted to get out." Meiya paused watching as they descended into clouds then soon after the clouds cleared and they landed on United States soil. "I can't wait for you to meet Jason." "Jason?" "Yeah… Oh! I haven't mentioned him, have I? He's my brother." "You have a brother?" "Uh… actually brother's I kindda have five." "Five brothers?!" "Yea… Jason is the oldest… he's the most protective." Denton looked at her a little
shocked. "Protective? Are all of your brothers protective?" "Well I'm the youngest in my family… so yeah… they kindda look out for me." Meiya watched as Denton looked forward. And for the first time Meiya saw something she never thought she would see in Denton. "Are you nervous?" He didn't answer her as the seatbelt light went off and everyone started to get up. He slipped out of his seat and gently let go of her hand. Her father raced up the isle, bumping into people. "Come on! Lets go!" Her father said quickly, he never liked crowds, and wanted to get out as fast as possible. "Oh, Meiya! How are you feeling?" "Good… I took some more of those pills, they seem to be helping." "Good… come on." The three walked down the isle then through the metal passageway into the airport. Once they were back in the airport Denton took up Meiya's hand again. She looked up to him, smiling. He leaned down while her father was ahead of them. "I'm just excited to meet your family… that’s all." He whispered to her. Meiya nodded her head. Once they made it through customs Denton and Meiya walked through the gate. The crowd started to clear and instantly Meiya let go of Denton's hand and ran for a man with dark brown hair. He laughed as she ran toward him, she jumped on him, wrapping her legs around his waist and her arms around his neck in a bear hug. He hugged her back then she quickly jumped off of him. "Hi!" She smiled ear to ear. "You know I think you're getting a little old for our running bear hugs, Meiya." "Never!" "You know one of these day's your gonna break my back." Meiya just giggled as she turned to see Denton and her father just catching up with her. Her brother gave her father a hug. "Still in one piece… always a good sign." He joked, smiling. But then his smile fell as he saw Denton.
"Who's this?" "Oh! This is Denton!" Meiya crossed the circle they had made, grabbing Denton's hand. "Denton this is Jason." Jason looked at Meiya then to Denton then down to their hands clasped together. "I don’t like him." Jason instantly said then turned and walked toward the barrage area. Meiya's father burst out laughing. Meiya ran after Jason. "Wait, Jason!" Meiya called after him. "If you think you had it hard with me, just wait till you meet the other four." Meiya's father said to Denton, gently grasping his shoulder in mock sympathy. "This is going to be interesting." Denton sighed. They made it out of the air port then out of the city and by time they made it to their small town it was almost midnight. Meiya had fallen asleep in the car on the way to her home. Denton had his arm wrapped around her and her head rested on his shoulder. Denton watched out the window, looking at the passing traffic and land. It was a quiet trip to their home and when they made it Denton didn't wake Meiya he simply shifted his arm from around her and picked her up into his arms. Meiya moaned a little as he shifted her, but she quickly tucked her head close to Denton's chest and one of her arms wrapped around his neck while the other grabbed onto his shirt. Meiya's father and Jason got out of the car, her father went to the trunk and started unloading the baggage, but Jason paused before helping his father. He looked at Denton holding Meiya in his arms and glared. Denton simply looked down at Meiya, pretending that he hadn't noticed. Meiya's father dragged their luggage out of the trunk then started to walk into the house, Jason following, caring Meiya's suitcase. Then Denton followed after them. Once inside Meiya's father set down the luggage and turned to Denton. "Her bed room in up stairs, first door on the left." Denton nodded once then went to walk up the stairs but Jason suddenly stepped in front of him. "I don’t think so." Jason said glaring at Denton. "Come on Jason, let him go." Meiya's father said yoning in between his words.
"No. I'll take her." Jason said still glaring at Denton. Denton looked down at Meiya then back up to her brother then very gently shifted and let Jason wrap his arms around her small body. One of Meiya's hands was fisted in his shirt and wouldn't let go. Denton gently pulled her hand from his shirt, silently smiling; he caressed the back of her hand before Jason pulled away from Denton. Jason widened his stance to take on Meiya's weight with out struggling a whole lot. Denton smirked as he watched Jason struggle. To Denton Meiya weighed no more than a feather to Jason she weighed a lot more. "The couch is open for tonight." Meiya's father said motioning toward the living room a head of them. "Thank you." Denton took off his shoes and walked over to the couch. "You want a blanket?" "No, I'm fine. Thank you." Denton said over his shoulder. "Alright… well Jason's room is right across from Meiya's… just so you know." He yond again as Denton smirked. "Well good night!" "Good night." He watched as Meiya's father walked up the stairs then sat down on the couch. He heard Jason walk down the stairs and enter the living room. "I know who you are." Denton felt his stomach constrict for only a moment. "Really?" He answered, turning his head to look at Jason. "You're like any other boy that Meiya has dated. Arrogant, self centered, weak, and doesn't care about anything but getting into her pants." Jason took a step toward Denton with every accusation till Jason was towering over Denton sitting on the couch. Denton rose to his feet and looked steadily back at Jason. "You don’t know any thing about me." Denton said standing his ground. He could hear Jason's blood pumping, and Denton tried to control himself. "I give you a week. Tops. You don’t know how persuasive my brother's and I can be." Denton just smirked.
"Can't wait." Jason glared, locking his jaw, then turned from Denton and walked back to the stairs. "I'm right across the hall from Meiya's room, so don’t even try." Jason stopped turning back to him at the start of the stairs. "I wouldn't think of it." Denton watched as Jason sighed quickly then walked up the stairs. Denton waited for an hour, making sure that every one was asleep before he got up from the couch and walked to the door. He slipped on his shoes and walked out of the house. He breathed in deeply, letting his senses sore. He sighed then sped away from the house to travel back to the city. It didn't take long to find a man preying on a woman. She was screaming for help as he tore at her cloths. Denton stopped a foot from the man. "Get your own!" He yelled at Denton, pulling the screaming woman closer to him. Denton grabbed the collar of the man and lifted him off the ground. The woman looked with wide eyes at Denton then ran from the alley. "Waoh! Back off assho-" Denton let his eyes grow black and he felt his throat ache for that sweet copper taste. The man didn't have time to scream as Denton fed off of his source of life. It wasn't even a minuet of blood pouring down Denton's throat that he heard the woman's scream again. Denton detached from the man's neck and looked up to see a figure walking down the alley, the screaming woman was being dragged by her throat. Denton could feel the vampires power crackle the air as they walked toward him, they were powerful, but not nearly as strong as him… a weaker blood line…. Much weaker. "You missed one." She said in a slick voice. She threw the woman down at his feet. "I didn't want her." Denton said coldly. "So you don’t mind if I…?" "Let her live. She was the victim." "There are no victims with humans… just prey." Then before Denton could stop her she sped toward the human woman and killed her. Denton watched with cold sick eyes as the vampire tore out the woman's throat. The vampire looked up at Denton smiling. Then she stood. Her high healed leather boots made her almost as tall as Denton. She had rich black hair with a streak of purple running through the front. "You're not from around
here…" She stepped closer to him, sniffing the air around him. "You're an ancient!" Her eyes twinkled with her smile. "I would hardly say that I'm an ancient." Denton countered. "I haven't ever met a vampire older than a hundred years… you're at least 5…" "9 actually." Her eyes grew wide. "Where have you been?" The woman started to circle him, looking him up and down. "Across the sea… sleeping." "How long were you under?" "A while." Denton said turning with the woman, keeping his back away from her. She stopped and smiled up at him. "I'm Alex." "Denton." "Denton… hum… I like it." She purred his name taking another step toward him. She reached up, letting her hands stroke over his chest. He grabbed her hands and forced her away from him. She was so close to him that he could tell she wasn't very old, maybe 70 to 90 years. "Not interested." He said coldly. Her eyes grew cold and she took a step back. "Yes my lord." She said bowing toward him in reverence. "Are there others?" Denton asked, letting her wrists go. "Yes… we have a coven here." She said while one of her hands rubbed against her wrist. "The leader?" Denton asked, watching as she looked from her wrist to Denton.
"Not as strong as you, for sure." "How old?" "Maybe a hundred years… he brags that he's two hundred, but it's not true…" She paused looking him up and down. "Will you-" "No." Denton cut her off, knowing her question. "We would be… most loyal." She said taking a cat like step toward him. "Your kind doesn't know the meaning of that word." He glared down at her. "You are our kind." She said taking another step toward him and smelled his cloths again. "Oh, but you like to live with humans… yum… keeping them around for a nice treat?" She said smirking and Denton's hand was around her throat before he could help himself. He lifted her off the ground like it was nothing, her fingers scratched at his hand, her eyes bulging. "YOU WILL NOT SPEAK OF THEM! YOU WILL NOT TELL ANY ONE OF MY EXISTENCE! AND YOU WILL NOT FOLLOW ME!" Denton screamed at the woman, using the power that had come from his maker. Her jaw fell open in a silent scream as his power made it's was into her, making her obey. Denton let his hand relax and the woman collapsed to the ground. Denton walked around her, picked up the man he had been feeding off of. He turned back to the vampire still collapsed on the ground. He looked at the human woman beside her. "And this time you will obey me." Denton turned and jumped up to the roof of one of the buildings surrounding the alley. Only after Denton was across the city did he stop and take the rest of the man's blood into him. Then he scratched the bite marks from the man's neck and let him fall into an alley way. Denton looked away from the body to look across the roof tops of New York. He breathed in deeply, smelling the glorious sent of humans. He looked to the moon to see what time it was. He still had a couple of hours. He ran through the streets, jumped over the roof tops and exploring the city. When it was around 4 when he decided he better get back before any one woke. While he was running he wondered what the coven was like… he had never belonged to a coven before, never felt he deserved it… But then something else came up to his thoughts. She said that she had never met a vampire older than a hundred… what happened to all of them? When Denton lived there were vampires much older than a thousand years… What happened?
She said that she had never met a vampire older than a hundred… what happened to all of them? When Denton lived there were vampires much older than a thousand years… What happened? When Denton got back to the house every one was still sleeping. He settled himself down on the couch, staring forward, thinking. Denton jumped when he heard Meiya scream. He was up stairs, hunched over ready to kill in less than a second. Denton was in the door way looking in, he saw a man over her. Denton ripped him off, and stood in front of Meiya defensively. The man slammed against the wall and stared up at Denton with big wide, fearful eyes. "Denton!" Denton didn't even glance back to Meiya, his eye on the enemy. "Denton! It's my brother! He was just tickling me!" Meiya said scrambling up from her bed, grabbing Denton's upper arm, as if to make him listen. Denton looked from the man to Meiya then back, realizing then the similar facial features, the lips, the eyes, the curve of the cheek. Denton looked down, feeling foolish for his rash actions. He slowly walked toward brother, extending a hand down to him. "Sorry… I thought..." The man took it and pulled himself up off the floor. "You thought I was attacking her?" He asked looking at Denton with a frown. "I'm sorry." Denton said wincing his answer. The man looked from Denton to Meiya then back again. "Well at least I know some ones looking out for her. Jesse." He extended his hand out to Denton and Denton shook it. "Denton." He said introducing himself. "You know you're lucky I wasn't Jason… he would probably kick your ass for that stunt." "Who's ass do I need to kick?" Jason asked leaning against the door way yoning, his sleepy eyes opened and he instantly stood up straight a glare settled on his features, directed at Denton. "WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN HERE?!" He said marching forward toward Denton. Jesse instantly stepped in front of Jason.
"Waoh! Calm down! It's my fault." "You invited him up here?" "No, but I was tickling Meiya and she was screaming… Denton came up and flung me across the room, thinking that I was attacking her, or something… He was just trying to protect Meiya and it kindda blew up in his face." Jason looked to Meiya and Meiya nodded her confirmation. Jason looked back to Denton and glared. "Get out." He said coldly. Denton looked over his shoulder at Meiya. "You okay?" "Peachy." She replied. Denton frowned at her, confused by her answer. "I'm fine Denton." She said assuring him. Denton nodded then walked out of the room. "Nice going jerk!" Denton heard Meiya yell at her bother. "What?... oh come on Meiya! He's ju-" Jason started but Meiya cut him off. "No! No he's not! You don’t know anything about him!" "That’s my point! None of us know anything about him!" Jason said back. Meiya walked across the room and out of her room. "You owe him an apology." She said back over her shoulder talking to Jason. "Where are you going?" Jason asked following after her. "Where do you think? Its morning and I'm hungry. You should wake up David, Blair and Ryan." She said as she started down the stairs. "I don’t like him!" Jason yelled after her. "I know!" She yelled back. She made it to the bottom of the stairs and looked at Denton as he looked at her family photos on the wall.
"I'm sorry about him." Meiya said walking up to him. "He loves you." Meiya grinned. "Yeah, I just don’t know why he has to be so protective." "It's because of your mother." Meiya frowned and looked at the photo he was looking at. It was a family picture with all of them, her mother was killed a month after the picture was taken. "He saw her die, didn't he?" Meiya frowned looking up at Denton, she felt the goose bumps spread over her arms and up her back. "How did you know that?" Meiya asked. Denton looked from the picture to Meiya. "I can see it when he looks at you… probably because you look so much like your mother." Denton said looking back to the picture then to her. Meiya looked over at the photo. "She's so much prettier than me." Meiya commented, frowning. "I always thought I took after dad." Denton gave that lopsided grin. "You do not take after your father, believe me." Meiya smiled. "So how was your night?" Meiya asked right as Jason and Jesse came down the stairs. "Uh… good… the couch is very comfortable." Meiya frowned up at him, not realizing her brothers had come down stairs. Denton motioned his head toward them and she turned from Denton. "Oh, hi!" Jason just glared and Jesse looked between Meiya and Denton. "Uh… I feel like pancakes!" Meiya said happily, trying to break the sudden awkward silence. "Pancakes it is!" Meiya's father said coming down the stairs. "The others awake?" "Uh… sort of." Jesse said smiling. "David, Blair, Ryan! Pancakes are on the table!" Her father yelled up the stairs. Suddenly
there was a thump, then followed by three very loud running thumps coming down the stairs. "Pancakes?" One of them said, bursting into the room. "Sure, I would love some! Thanks for offering!" Her father said thumping him on the back, urging him toward the kitchen. "Waoh! Who's that?" He asked pointing toward Denton. "A new boyfriend." Jason said monotone. "Sweet! Some one to pick on! I'm Blair." "Denton." "If there's no pancakes I'm going back to bed." Another said. "Oh, no you don’t, Ryan… everyone is helping." The three sighed then started to walk toward the kitchen. "That’s Ryan and David… and of course Blair." Meiya said pointing out the two sleepy guys. "All of them have brown hair… you-" "I know… don’t ask me, that’s just how it turned out. I have blond and every one else has brown… I guess God just wanted me to stand out." Denton smiled and wrapped an arm around Meiya's waist, pulling her closer to him so he could kiss the top of her head. "NO PHYSICAL CONTACT!" David yelled and shot a rubber band at Denton. Denton whipped out his hand and grabbed the elastic before it could hit him. "Waoh…" David said, his eyes wide. "Did you see that!?" David yelled, grabbing Ryan's shirt. "Yeah, so what?"
"So what?! SO WHAT?! He caught it!" "Yeah, and I'm hungry so stop playing around and start working!" Meiya grabbed the elastic from Denton's hand and quickly shot it back at David, it hit him in the back of the head. He turned around and glared at Denton. Denton instantly pointed to Meiya and David looked over at Meiya and pointed to her, fake glaring. Meiya laughed then moved from Denton's grasp and walked into the kitchen with everyone else. Denton walked after her, watching how the family walked around each other and joked while working. Meiya wormed her way through the men and got to the cupboards, she opened them up and took out 8 plates then made her way back to the dinning room table. She glanced up at Denton, smiling then quickly set the table. She wormed her way back through and grabbed silver wear then handed him the knives as she did the forks. "Hey Denton, why don't you come flip pancakes?" Her father called out to him. He walked to the oven and watched what Meiya's father was doing, it looked simple enough. "Ever made pancakes before?" "No." "Well when David pours on the batter you wait till the bubbles come up and pop. See?" Denton leaned over and saw little bubbles come up through the batter to hold for a moment then pop. Denton nodded and her father quickly maneuvered the spatula under the pancake then flipped it up in the air, it landed perfectly in the middle of the pan on the doughy side down. "Think you can handle it?" Her father handed him the spatula. "Sure." Denton took the plastic instrument. "When the cooked side gets a little puffy it's done on the other side." Denton nodded. "Okay." The first three pancakes were a disaster, one was complete douh the next was completely burnt the third ended up on the roof. But the fourth was near perfect. Meiya sat down at the table watching Denton. He was laughing. Meiya didn't know if she had ever seen Denton like that. Completely happy and in the moment, not thinking about if she was okay, or if something was going wrong, just completely concentrated on making the pancakes. It was amazing. When everything was done every one sat down around the table and dug in. Everyone except Denton.
"Yo! Dig in!" David said flopping a pancake on Denton's plate. "Oh, no thank you. I'm not very hungry." Everyone paused looking at him weirdly. "Uh… I never eat breakfast." David was the first to move. He shrugged then quickly picked up the pancake that had been on Denton's plate and moved it onto his. "More for me!" Denton laughed and watched as every one else dug in. "You know Denton you don't eat a lot." Meiya's father commented, looking at Denton as he poured syrup over his pancakes. "I eat what I need to." "What you need to? Dude! Food is life! You cant get enough of it!" David said. Meiya choked while drinking her orange juice. "I completely agree." Denton said looking at Meiya, making sure she was okay. "I simply don’t eat when I'm not hungry." "So where do you live Denton?" Jason asked stuffing a piece of pancake into his mouth. "I uh… well…" Denton looked to Meiya. "Well should we tell them?" "Tell them?" Meiya echoed, looking panicked. "I don't really have a home." Denton said truthfully. Every one around the table froze. "You picking up homeless guys now, Meiya? Man, that's attractive!" Brain said sarcastically. "No you dolt!" Meiya said back harshly. "Well then what's the story?" "Uh…" Meiya looked to Denton, panic once again in her eyes.
"My parents died… and they left me with nothing." Denton said still telling the truth yet shifting it slightly to lead them to believe what he wanted them to. "Nothing." Jason said questioning his explanation. "Yes, Jason. Nothing." Meiya said harshly. "I found him… and he saved my life so I decided it was the least I could do to help him." "Wait Denton saved your life? When?" Her father asked. Every one was leaning in on the table listening intently. "Uh…" Meiya froze realizing she had said too much. "On the site." Denton said and Meiya whipped her head to Denton, her eyes wide. "No Denton!" "Its okay Meiya." He said grabbing her hand under the table and squeezing it. "I was living down in the basement of the site." "Wait. Are you an American?" Her father asked, his frown deepening. "Yes, of course. I traveled over to try and find some relatives. They turned out dead, but because I had spent all of my money trying to get over I didn't have anything left to come back to America. Meiya found me in the basement of that site and I saved her right as the roof collapsed. We made it up stairs, and that's where you saw us." "But you said you were his girlfriend Meiya." Father said looking back to her. "Well I… I didn't want him to get in trouble because he was on the site… so I'm sorry dad, but I lied." Her father looked at her sternly then looked back at Denton. "But you save her life?" "Yes… and it turns out she saved mine. If she hadn't come down there and discovered me I would probably be dead right now." Every one was silent as they worked out the puzzle
pieces. "So end result, you don’t have a home." Ryan said quietly. "Yeah." Denton answered. Meiya's father opened his mouth, but before he could even say anything Jason spoke. "No." "Jason… I'm not going to let him live on the street!" "NO! I don’t like it. We don’t know anything about him! Even Meiya doesn't know anything about him!" "I do too!" "Really? What's his last name?" Jason said crossing his arms, his eye brows raised waiting for her response. Meiya looked down then over to Denton. "I don’t know but-" "EXACTLY! You don’t know! We can't let this stranger into our house! He could be a killer! Or a rapist! Or-" "Jason stop." Meiya's father spoke harshly. "He saved Meiya's life. I was there, if she had still been in the basement there is no doubt that she would be dead. For that reason alone he's staying." "BU-" "No. He's staying." Jason looked from his father to Denton then back. He shook his head then pushed away from the table and stomped up stairs to his room where he slammed the door. "YOU CAN'T TRUST HIM!" Jason screamed from his room then there was a loud crash of something breaking.
Then just only awkward silence. After everyone finished the awkward breakfast all the boys went up to get ready for work. Meiya was about to follow them up stairs when Denton stopped her. "Meiya I have to tell you something." She looked back at him with big innocent eyes. "I met another vampire last night." "What?!" Meiya stepped closer to him then looked up the stairwell making sure no one was there before she pushed him into the living room. "What happened?" "Nothing. We just talked. But… she said that she had never seen a vampire older than a hundred. She called me an ancient." "Wait… she?" "Yeah. It was a woman. But she called me an ancient." "Was she pretty?" "What?" "Was she pretty?" Meiya asked again. Denton just shook his head frowning. "What does it matter. Meiya, I'm the oldest vampire she's ever seen! When I lived there were vampires every where, and a lot of them much older than what I am now. The oldest that I had ever met was almost two thousand years old." "Two thousand?!" "Yes. I… I need to find out what happened to all of them. If there is some kind of sickness that attacks vampires or if some one is hunting my kind… I need to find out so I can look out for it." Meiya pursed her lips in thought… "Well is there a way you could find that out?"
"It's not that simple." "Why?" "Well I find out through any other way besides talking to another vampire. Its not like some one has written a book about it." "Right… so I guess you should talk to the vampire girl." Meiya said, really wanting Denton to say no to her suggestion. "No, I cant. If what she said is true, that I'm an ancient. Her and all the others will want me to take over the coven. Ancients are supposed to be leaders to a coven." "And you don’t want to, right?" Meiya said hesitantly, fear growing in the pit of her stomach as she realized that Denton might leave her. "No! Of course not… you don’t understand. Not all vampires are like me. They don’t see humans as anything but food." Meiya lowered her head in thought. "Well you need to find out what happened. So for right now it doesn't matter what they think just as long as they know what you need to know… and can get it from them." "The getting isn't the problem. But I have your sent all over me." Meiya looked down sighing. Denton reached up his hand and placed it on her jaw, lifting her face to meet his. "I can't let them track you down because of me." Meiya nodded against his hand, loving the feel of his cold flesh against her's. "So what are you going to do?" She asked. "Nothing… I want to know what happened, but I can't sacrifice what I have now to satisfy my curiosity." He said quietly looking down. Meiya frowned confused. Denton didn't have anything, he didn't even have his own cloths! "What do you have now?" She asked. Denton looked up to meet her gaze. "You." He leaned in swiftly and kissed her soft lips. Meiya let her hands travel up his chest as he pulled her closer to him.
"Cough… cough…" Meiya quickly pulled away from Denton to twist around to see Ryan standing behind them, his eyes adverted. "Honestly Meiya if you're gonna do that please, please don’t do it where I can walk in on you." He said before turning away from the two of them. "Dude you really need to get some cloths that sute your age." Ryan said as he walked into the kitchen and grabbed keys off of the counter. "I'm going to the mall today with Leah. Got the day off work. If you guys wanna come I can drive you." "Who's Leah?" "My girlfriend. But if you guys wanna come, Meiya you're gonna have to get dressed." Meiya quickly ran up the stairs yelling back. "Be right back!" Denton looked over to Ryan. "You don’t mind me with you sister?" "Of course I mind. But Meiya's grown up now, she can make her own decisions, and the more I or any one else in this house fights it the more she's gonna fight back." Ryan said simply. "Makes sense. So how old are you and your brothers?" "Jason is the oldest, he's 24. Then its Darin who's 23, Jesse 22, David and Blair are twins 21 and then there's me 20, then Meiya… 19." Ryan paused looking at Denton. "How old are you?" Meiya thumped down the stairs, her hair in a messy pony tail and in jeans and a t-shirt. "Ready to go?" Ryan looked at his sister then turned toward the door. "Yeah." Ryan said and turned and walked out the door. The ride over to the mall was uneventful and quiet. When they reached the mall, walking through the revolving door Denton stiffened at first but then watching as Ryan walked through he followed smoothly. Meiya smiled as he turned to make sure she made it through. He wrapped an arm around
her shoulders as a girl ran up to Ryan, throwing her arms around his neck and kissing him. "Hi." She said after they had parted. "What took you so long?" "Meiya wanted to tag along." He said motioning with his head toward Meiya. Leah looked at Meiya for only a second as her eyes found Denton. "And who's the hotty?!" "Boyfriend! Right here!" Ryan said pointing to himself. "Yeah, yeah… I'm Leah." Leah said smiling at Denton. "Denton…" "Who is Meiya's boyfriend!" Ryan interjected, pointing Denton's arm wrapped around Meiya's shoulders. Leah smiled then turned back to Ryan. "So I was thinking we should go to Wal-Mart first!" Ryan shrugged. "Sounds good to me!" "Uh…" Meiya interrupted. "I think Denton and I are gonna wonder through the clothing stores… meet up with you later?" "Yeah, sure! Sounds good!" Leah said before Ryan could say anything. She tugged at his hand and pulled him down the hall. "We'll meet up at noon at Wendy's!" Ryan called back. Meiya looked up to Denton. "So what's your style Denton?" "Style?"
"Yeah… what do you like to wear?" "Uh… I'm not going to enjoy this am I?" "Most guys try to avoid it." Denton sighed. "Come on." Meiya laughed pulling him into a clothing store. The whole day Meiya and Denton wandered around the mall and bought cloths. Meiya had a day of laughter and drooling. She figured out that he could look amazing in practically anything. And by the end of the day Denton looked like a movie star… or a model, take your pick. At noon Meiya and Denton had met up with Ryan and Leah for lunch but after lunch Leah dragged Ryan away and Meiya and Denton spent the rest of the day shopping. It wasn't till around 8 that the four met up together again. "Hey! Ryan and I are going out a club tonight, do you guys wanna come?" Leah asked hanging off of Ryan. Denton looked over to Meiya, letting her decide. "Uh… sure! You up for it?" She asked Denton. Denton just shrugged. "Why not?" Leah and Ryan walked down to the parking lot and Denton leaned down to whisper in Meiya's ear. "What's a club." She laughed and turned around. "It’s a place where they play music and people drink and dance. It's really fun!" "Dance?" "Yeah." Meiya shrugged smiling. Denton's eye twitched. "Its fun, believe me." Denton squared his jaw then followed after Meiya. He hoped that dancing in this century wasn't like dancing in his century. Meiya walked down the stairs in her home. She was wearing high heels and a little black dress that came to her mid thigh. Her make up was done perfectly and she wore her hair up. "Hi." She said walking into the living room where Denton and Ryan were. Denton's back was to her, talking with Ryan. "Wow." Ryan said as Denton turned to see her. Denton didn't say anything as he just stared at her.
"You really think so?" Meiya asked turning around. "Meiya. I think that dress might be a little-" Ryan started, pulling out the protective side of him. "Fabulous!" Leah interrupted coming down the stairs as well. She wore a little jean mini skirt with a bright red tube top. "Okay well we should go before the line gets too long." She said taking Ryan's hand and pulling him toward the door. Meiya walked slowly up to Denton. "So? What do you think?" Denton slowly leaned down and inhaled her scent. "You are so beautiful." He whispered in her ear. Meiya smiled as she tried to suppress her urge to kiss him. "Are you guys coming?" Leah yelled back at she opened the door. "Yeah!" Meiya yelled back and turned, grabbing Denton's hand as she went. When they got to the club you could hear the music out side, as if trying to blast through the wall. The line wasn't long so they were quickly let in. Every one was i.d. and Denton had to use his temporary passport to be let in. Meiya couldn't stop laughing as the bouncer looked at the passport then to Denton, trying to decide if he should let him in or not. She couldn't help but wonder what his reaction would be if he knew how old Denton really was. When they made it inside Denton's senses were over whelmed with everything that was going on. It was like a feast. He heard every pounding heart beat, every body moving to the beat of the music that vibrated through every one. The pouring of alcohol and the sound of people talking over the music, all of it rushed to Denton. Ryan and Leah instantly went to the dance floor. Meiya stood by Denton's side looking out at the crowd. "Are you going to be okay? I never even thought how much of a temptation it would be…" Meiya said looking up at Denton with worry. "Meiya if I can control my self around you, I can control my self any where… But the sensuality of this place!"
"Its amazing isn't it?" Denton watched as a couple moved together on the dance floor. Her heart was pounding as the man stoked his hands up her thigh and around her stomach. "You wanna dance?" Meiya asked still looking up at Denton. Denton looked at the couple on the dance floor then back to Meiya. He smirked. "Oh yes." Meiya laughed as he took her hand and walked out onto the dance floor. Meiya worked her way closer to him as they traveled deeper into the sea of people. Eventually he turned toward her and smiled. He turned her around and drew her back so her back was to him. Meiya lifted up an arm and gripped the back of his neck as he bent over and kissed her shoulder. They moved with the beat, moving back and forth with the seductive rhythm. Meiya tilted her head as Denton moved his way up her neck, kissing her softly, relishing in her sent and her own distinctive beat, separate from every thing else in the room. He let one arm wrap around her middle, while the other rested gracefully on her thigh. She slowly turned around in his arms right as the music changed and became more heavy. Meiya pulled slightly away from Denton and swayed her hips, slowly going down to the floor than back up. She smiled at Denton watching as he shifted to the beat, not really knowing what to do. Meiya pivoted and came closer to Denton, taking up his hands and placing them on her hips. "Its really simple, you just have to move." Denton nodded, loving the way her hips shifted beneath his hands. Meiya glanced over as she saw a girl dancing next to them. She moved closer and closer to Denton and her. She gently touched Denton's arm and he let it drop from Meiya's waist. Meiya frowned as Denton started to move away from her, letting the other girl in. Meiya watched as the girl suddenly wrapped an arm around Denton's waist and bent down, bringing herself up close to him, gliding her body against his. Meiya stopped dancing, watching as Denton started to move with her. Meiya looked at the girl. She had long black hair with a purple streak in the front. She smirked over at Meiya then pressed herself closer to Denton. Meiya felt sick. She turned from Denton and walked out of the crowd. Meiya walked over to the bar and ordered a shot. As soon as he poured it she drank it. The bar tender raised an eye brow watching her. "Another." She said looking at him. He looked back onto the dance floor to see Denton and the girl. "Are you okay?" Meiya looked over her shoulder at Denton. "You know what, never mind." Meiya placed a five on the counter then turned to walk out of the bar. Once out of the bar the silence made her head spin. She leaned up against the wall, pushing back the tears that were threatening to come. She leaned her head against the wall and closed her eyes, sighing. She heard a thud right in front of her. Meiya snapped her eyes open to see a man smirking in front of her.
"Well hello my pet!" Fear instantly gripped her as she saw his eyes grow dark. At that moment only one thought passed through her mind before she screamed. He's a vampire. "DENTON!" She managed to scream out before the vampire had his hand over her mouth. He jumped up onto the roof of the club, pulling her frail body with him. He paused, whispering down into her ear, his hand still clamped painfully over her mouth. "He can't save you now, my pet… You're all mine." Oh God…
