HAIR FIBERS introduction.. • Hair fibers obtained from different kinds of animals also contribute to the fabric formation. • Animals hair are adapted by nature for the climate they live in. • These fibers can be used alone or mixed with wool.

Camel Introduction… 2. also known as high quality coat fiber. 3. Apt to protect both heat and cold. 4. An expensive fiber so often mixed with wool.

Sources • Camel hair is collected from the two-humped Bactrian camel, found from Turkey east to China and north to Siberia. Significant supplier countries of camel hair are: Mongolia, Iran, Afghanistan, Russia, New Zealand, Tibet, and Australia

Manufacturing There are five primary steps 1.Collection – by shearing or moulting 2.Sorting – coarse hair seperated from soft hair 3.dehairing 4. spinning, and 5. weaving or knitting.

MOHAIR Introduction.. • refers to a silk-like fabric or yarn made from the hair of the docile Angora goat. • Length of fiber is 9 to 12 inches.

Source.. • Found in mountains of tibet and turkey • Today South Africa and the United States are the largest mohair producers, with the majority of Amerian mohair being produced in Texas

Shearing- removing fur from animal body



Scouring- treating fiber with detergents



Dehaired- separating coarse and soft hair.

Cashmere Introduction.. Cashmere wool is wool obtained from the Cashmere goat and is also known as Pashmina.

Sources.. • Himalaya mountains of kashmir • Mangolia and china.

Properties.. 1. Soft and wool like, 2. Lightweight 3. Warm and finer as compared to normal wool fiber. 4. Less durable than wool.

LLAMA • Introduction • It is obtained from animal which looks like camel ( 1/3 of its size) • sources… • Andes mountains of south america. • Primarily in bolivia and peru.

Alpaca Introduction… • Related to camels breed • Suri is highly selected type of alpaca sources • Found in Andes mountains in S. America

properties • Silky ,strong,water repellant. • Highly insulative • Obtained in many colors but reddish brown is most valuable. End uses… Socks, sweaters, jackets etc

Angora (rabbit) Introduction… • •

It is obtained from rabbit It is very expensive



sources… angora comes from France, Italy and Japan.

Also raised from China , Chile and US

Manufacturing.. 1. Plucking loose hair, or 2. Shearing or 3. collection of moulting fur

End uses Sweaters, suiting, baby clothes , knitting and felting
