“THE CONTROL, CONTAINMENT & CLEAN UP OF OIL SPILLS ON LAND” (51322) Purpose: To provide competency based training and to instruct personnel to safely and practically respond to minor spills within the workshop, factory, plant or external work area using the correct procedures, equipment and conventions. Course Content: The training course provides an understanding of the environmental concerns that relevant authorities have towards damage caused by oil spills. During the course participants are encouraged to reflect on how they will respond to a hydrocarbon spill with the knowledge that they should not rely on others during such an event. Discussion and information is provided concerning the different types of absorbents that are available on the market. The course includes a segment on the properties of hydrocarbons and the techniques and equipment to control, contain and clean up spills. A number of “hands-on” demonstrations are used to illustrate important aspects of the various types of absorbents and other clean up products available. The important issues such as bio-remediation, disposal and incident reporting are covered in the course. Assessment: Participants will be questioned on their knowledge of the different types of absorbents and equipment demonstrated and discussed during the training. A short multiple-choice questionnaire at the conclusion of the course will help participants assess their level of competency and knowledge. This will include: • Individual and company responsibilities in response to workplace oils spills • The characteristics, purpose and use of different types of spill control absorbents and the method of application • Understanding spill containment and reporting requirements Certificate: A Statement of Attainment will be issued upon successful completion of the course. Duration: Three hours Maximum participants per session: 15 - Minimum 4 (best 8-12) Maximum sessions per day: 2 Locations: At your business premises anywhere in Australia
