INTERNATIONAL CONTACT GROUP (ICG)
Framework Agreement on the Formation of the International Contact Group for the GRP-MILF Peace Process was signed Sept. 15, 2009.
Mandate: To exert “proper leverage” and to “sustain the interests of the Parties” Purpose: (1) To implement approaches, signed agreements, provide expert advise on key issues and (2) ensure the successful implementation of signed agreements. Parties – Interested countries, international and domestic NGOs; Role of NGOs – (1) engage and act as a bridge between the Parties, Facilitator and stakeholders, (2) exchange views, provide research inputs and (3) establish communication channels.
CIVILIAN PROTECTION MECHANISM
The next round of negotiations will focus on the framework agreement for civilian proctection. After that, the Parties will move on to negotiations on the final peace agreement.
