Taxes – property tax reduction plan (reduce property taxes by expanding sales tax to a wide range of personal, professional, and household services) ► Education – help urban areas, raise graduation rates ► Environment and Energy – protect open space, DEP reform, clean up toxic waste sites ► Abortion – pro-choice, but supports a ban on partial birth abortions unless the doctor supports it. Negatives of Daggett ► ►
Since he’s running as a 3rd party candidate, he will take more votes away from Christie, therefore helping Corzine to win. Daggett wants to expand the sales tax; meaning things like hair cuts and dry cleaning could be taxed.
Purpose: Forbid the government from taking private property for reasons of private economic development •
• Also, would prevent the government from using eminent domain on any property with the intent of increasing the tax vase of an area •Eminent Domain: Government seizes your property without your consent and will give you fair market value if your land is intended to be used for a state project. •For example: Spruce Run Reservoir, expansion of route 31, and 2005 case of Kelo Vs. City of New

Increase federal funding for light rail/rapid transit $200 million to metropolitan areas for more rail tracks Alleviate traffic congestion Reducing carbon emissions Local governments can buy back old rail tracks Lessen America’s dependence on foreign oil Federal funding will increase from $50 million to $600 million $300 million grant to build new rail tracks and rail cars
Purpose: To end Stop Loss in America. Stop Loss refers to the involuntary extension of a service member’s active duty service beyond the terms of initial enlistment Reason: Troops we have now (in the Middle East) are less than we need to complete our mission. If this bill is passed we will then loose troops, so then we cannot fullfill our troop requirement, thus making our mission harder to accomplish. Negative: Even if you are close to fulfilling your active duty contract, the govt can extend it. Whenever you sign up to volunteer in the military, you are contracted to serve 8 years in the military. This means that if you are active for 4 years, you can still be called back to service within those next 4 years In this bill, once you complete your active duty contract, you cannot be called back to serve.
