Golda EL-KHOURY Ms. Golda El-Khoury is the Chief of the UNESCO Section for Youth, Sport and Physical Education, based in Paris – France. In this capacity, she is responsible for the development of research, building networks and promoting policies on youth and sport. Before joining UNESCO, she has spent 6 years with UNICEF as the first Regional Advisor on Youth for the Middle East and North Africa Region, based in Amman, Jordan. She was also assigned the responsibilities of the Regional Focal Point for Gender Equality and Sport for Development. She has earlier held the position of Country Director for Save the Children in Indonesia, Jordan and Northern Iraq. Throughout her career, she has been active in promoting rights based, multisectoral policies and programmes for children and young people, and in advocating for their participation in matters that affect their lives. The development of youth policies and programmes promoting the full engagement of youth in social, economic and political processes has been at the core of her advocacy and programming work in both regular and emergency settings. Ms. El-Khoury, a Lebanese national, holds a Masters' degree in Gender and Development from the Institute of Development Studies, University in Sussex. She read philosophy at the American University of Beirut and the Lebanese University.
