Tbe current cost of living increases (COLAs) these heroes' families receive have not kept pace with inflation, and these surviving spouses are no longer receiving adequate benefits. Over the years, some line of duty death spouses have even fallen below the poverty level. Considering what their families have sacrificed for the citizens of New York, the least the State 'c an do is to ensure that these spouses are receiving enough benefits to survive.

The cost of bill S. 6744 is minimal and would be shared by the State and the local municipalities' police and fire retirement systems. Governor, the men and women who have given their lives in the line of duty should not bave their memory besmirched by having their surviving family members become destitute, Therefore, the Detectives' Endowment Association wholeheartedly encourages you to sign S. 6744 into law, Thank you for your consideration of this matter.
