GIIS, Singapore, Wins “International Asia Pacific Quality Award – Best in Class (2nd highest - Education)”

Marks the first time any local educational institution has won this prestigious award and the second time that any Singapore organization has been selected for this quality award

Singapore, Thursday 23 July 2009 – Singapore’s Global Indian International School (“GIIS”) announced today that the homegrown school has won a major global quality award, the first time that a local educational institution has secured this accolade. Eleven business and educational organizations from the Pacific Ocean rim were among the “Best Performing Organizations in the World” named in this year’s rankings for the global awards of IAPQA, which was established to encourage world class organizations to improve their quality programmes and continuously enhance value for customers and stakeholders. Companies were assessed based on the Malcolm Baldrige National Quality Award Criteria which rates organizations for their achievements in quality and performance excellence as a competitive edge. Only organizations that have won quality awards at a national level were eligible to apply for the IAPQA. GIIS’s East Coast campus applied for and won the Performance Excellence Award from the Indian Merchants Chamber in 2008 with a score of 709 out of a maximum 1,000 points. This win qualified GIIS to apply to the APQO for this latest Award. Following an extensive evaluation, by Malcolm Baldrige assessors, GIIS was awarded the IAPQA for the 2009 cycle.

GIIS is the first local educational institute to receive this prestigious award and only the second-ever IAPQA winner from Singapore (the first being Singapore Technologies Engineering, which won the “Best of its Class Distinction - Big Manufacturing Organization” in 2005). “GIIS is extremely pleased to be the first local educational institution to ever win the IAPQA, which is a very prestigious global award,” said Mr. Atul Temurnikar, Chairman and Trustee of the Global Indian Foundation and of GIIS. “Since our founding in Singapore in 2002, GIIS has endeavored to deliver the highest standards in education to our students. This prestigious award underscores the outstanding accomplishment and performance of GIIS in the area of quality.” “GIIS has invested significant resources in improving quality at all levels of its schools, focusing on the needs of the student and continuous process improvements. We have sought to meet the highest quality benchmarks at national level and have now been named as one of the world’s most quality-conscious educational institutions. This award marks a major milestone in the development of GIIS,” he added. This award, in its ninth year, is administered by the Asia Pacific Quality Organization (“APQO”) – a non-profit organization that serves as an umbrella group that brings together all of the leading quality organizations from countries that border the Pacific Ocean or are considered Asian nations. In April 2008, GIIS started its Global Centre for Education Excellence (“GCEE”) with Mr. B. G. Shenoy as Director. GCEE was instrumental in implementing quality and education excellence initiatives such as Teacher & Student Quality Circles, Safety Audits. The Centre prepared the school for external assessments from Leaders in Quality such as Tata Steel in July 2008 before applying and successfully achieving the Singapore Quality Class certification from SPRING Singapore, for GIIS’ East
