Requirements for using GAN services • Dual-mode handset • Network-controllers • Call control system • Secured internet connection
Working of the Dual-Mode service • Dual mode uses both GSM and Wi-fi . • Outside home-local tariff plan. • At home VOIP tariff.

Modes of operation • 4 modes :
> GERAN-only > GERAN-preferred > GAN-preferred > GAN-only
Advantages & Disadvantages Advantages : a.Less expensive. b.Less congestion. c.Easy connection through Hot-Spots. d.More affordable as compared to landline. Disadvantages : a.More battery usage and heavy devices. b.Will lead to increase in rate plans of VOIP.
Use in other fields • Femtocell • Analog Terminal Adapter • Soft-mobile
